Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

Uh... never heard of that. And I don't believe it. Not to mention it would be REALLY hard to do that. Part of going to the gym is making it a regular part of your life. It is really hard when you don't go for a while (even a week or two) to force yourself to go back. I think regular exercise will achieve your goal far faster. Personally, I've been sick for the last week and was happy to make it back to the gym today. Hopefully I can ease back into it successfully.

ugh I have been horrible for like the last 2 months...I just haven't had the motivation. Right after my birthday I went through a tough patch...still going through it...so it's kinda just killed me in the motivation....and i'm still looking for a full time job so that just depresses me which makes me not care about working out even though I do really care about loosing some of this extra weight I have. I was down to like 163lbs and now I'm back up to 170lbs. I think I want to start yoga again or just something... I hopefully will get motivation sometime soon this "rough patch" will be coming to an end soonish...so maybe after that and towards the end of the year I'll be better motivated...but I really wanna start like tomorrow...we'll see if it actually happens!

Hey fellas, just thought I'd tell my story.

I want to lose about 20-25 more pounds. I'm 5'9", and I just lost 70 (from 260 to 190) I used to have a size 50 waist, now I'm a 38. I don't really know how I did it. Never did too much significant exercise, I just ate a lot less than I used to. I know at some point it got unhealthy, some days I only took in about 350 calories. One week I lost 9 lbs. I didn't really mean to, I was just so sick of the weight, and pissed at myself for letting myself become such a lardass. Before I went on the diet, I'd have as much as 7,000 calories in a day. Then I went to having a bowl of cereal & a diet TV dinner a day.

So, I want to get down to a size 34. At least a 36. I just have to get at it, and get strict again. It's way to hard to lose weight this time of year. I just baked a batch of sugar cookies today... that really helped.

Benny.

Interesting thread. Maybe it can get me off my ass. And Benny I can really relate to you.

I'd love to lose about 40 or 50 pounds; whether or not that is realistic is another story. As of now, I am 250-260 (it really varies) and 6'5". I lost 30ish pounds without really trying last summer (2006); diet was able to do most of the job, and I say it wasn't effort because it was mostly a summer job forcing me to get proper sleep and eat a small lunch and small breakfast. I put some of that back on over the winter, and lost it over the summer due to walking for most of my transportation in DC. I also jogged a bit.

I'm a size 39 pants now. I say that because I can fit in some 38s and some 40s, depending on the brand. I don't want a washboard stomach, but if I could not have a belly, that would be good.

I'm going to start jogging again tomorrow, hopefully. Wish me luck!

I've been working out and eating healthy since the end of September, I'm 5'9" and was at 240lbs. The shock of seeing that on the scale (my heaviest ever) was what motivated me. As of this morning I was down to 216lbs. I've also gone from a 42 inch pants, to loose 38s and some 36s depending on the cut. I'm really trying to get down to 175-180 to see where I sit then. If I am too skinny I will then attempt to grow some muscle.

I'm new to this thread

Has anyone mentioned Weight Watchers

In 2003 I found myself 30 pounds overweight. I managed to drop 10 on my own but couldn't get any further. My sister suggested I join WW and I managed to drop the other 20 in 3 months - and it was easy

The best part of WW is they teach you how to eat properly and know your limits. You lose the weight and can keep it off

Trust me, it works

Well, where do I begin?

I'm new to this thread, and I really would like some help. I'm 5'9 and heading to be a whopping 270 pounds ... and at 18 years old, that's terrible. I've been a size 36 from the waist since the fifth grade, and last year I moved up to 38 ( thankfully the 40 is too loose, they fall off ). I'm from an overweight family, so motivation to shed some pounds simply isn't there. Also, I should mention that I do walk everyday from school, averaging a 30 minute walk for five days a week. From the start of August to now I've only managed to lose ONE pound!!!
I know that it sounds unrealistic, but is it possible to lose 20 pounds within nine weeks? I want to lose at least that excess of 70 pounds before I begin college next fall, and then work from there.
I can't join any program that costs money, as I don't work. I really want to rely on diet and excercise that doesn't alter my busy lifestyle.
Am I asking for too much?

Hi guys. My NY resolution will be to loose 25 lbs. I just signed up with a Fitness Instructor who is a real modivator. Although I am not loosing too much weight I am loosing inches. Which is fat/fluid. Many small meals, everything in moderation and at least 5 days per week Cardio with 2 days of weight training in between. Noticed the inches come off when I stopped eating after 6pm. Difficult at first but successful. Good luck to all and thank you for staring this thread.

I am a picky eater aswell (and a girl, which doesnt help since I seem to be predisposed to put weight on! bloody genetics hehe) and find it extremely difficult to do the whole 5 a day thing.

I find making smoothie to have fruit, and soup to get my veg is much better, since it quick and simple to make yourself means you know how much salt and sugar and stuff goes into it.

I have one of those mini step machine things, so when watching TV i try to use that so i am not sat down, and when on the laptop (like now) i try to stop every 30 minutes or so just to stand up and stretch.

my only other advice would be take food to college with you instead of eating in the cafeteria, dried fruits and nuts etc.....try not to eat bread (of any kind) and avoid anything fizzy if possible, or try to limit to maybe 2 cans a day at the most. all things in modertation, and if your gonna have something "bad" then make it good quality "bad" hehehe like, if your gonna eat chocolate, eat really good quality chocolate, its higher in cocoa content and actually not as bad for you as more refined chocolate.

I've been going to the gym for the past few months and have lost 15 pounds. It wasn't a lot of fun a first, but you do get into it after a while.

I'm heading back to school and I'm dead set on getting into the gym at school and working towards my weight loss/muscle building goal. I'm excited for it I just have one major problem, the gym really intimidates me. I've been there a couple of times and each time I just wanted to get out asap. I think I'm gonna just have to grit my teeth and deal with it until I realize it's not so bad.

Anyway, I'm 5'10 about 250lbs and I'm looking to get down to 180-190, and hopefully pack on a lot of muscle once it's all said and done. I've got a couple of friends who are trainers that I can talk with, but I have no one to really work out with in person, and I know I can work around that somehow.

Hey Darth! I posted on here a while ago, but I'm in a similar situation as you. Funny that. I need to lose like 50-60 pounds, and am joining the gym back at my apartment near my university soon.

Unfortunatly, I don't know any trainers. But best of luck!

i havent really been dieting or excercising much latley but staying at about 185lbs (85 kg) looking to get more into excersizing now since i have already lost lots of weight my old pic was deleted but here is a new one

You gotta' keep at it. I lost 10 pounds pretty quickly, and the next 5 took twice as long. Just believe in yourself and you can do it!

Thx Snapper..Yeah, a friend of mine told me the first 10 are the easiest (I guess water and excess fat) and it gets harder from there. Thx Snap - I will use your words of encouragement!

Also, give yourself about 4 pounds of leeway each way. You can lose a lot of water from your body as you exercise. Same thing if you eat prior to a workout.

Typically a healthy snack is a good thing before a workout, but not a whole meal. Of course sometimes we have to go to the gym when we have time to go, and not when we need to go.

One of the best things I got from my personal trainer is to change up your routine from day to day. Spread those exercises out amongst the various muscle groups.

I was doing a lot of walking, and then running. Then I hurt my knee and found out what runner's knee was. Of course after that is when I found out that the elliptical machine is far better for you than running.

I will still walk 2 miles, but mainly because I enjoy it and it gets me revved up for the exercises that follow.

As a general rule, the sauna and hot tub are good for you after a workout. But be especially careful with public hot tubs. I know some people that have gotten staff infections after getting into the public hot tub. Chemicals in the hot tub can go a long way in killing the bad bacteria, but most of the people that work in the gyms are not scientists, and can make mistakes.

just remember, whenever you hit a wall and is too tired to wait for so long to see result... always switch the workout/activity/sport you're doing or create a new combination. Losing weight is not always a one type thing as you cannot just focus on one body part. When you involve new methods, new body parts will be involve and thus you'll be able to have better result.

I find that if I am stuck at a certain weight or I am losing too little... I change to something else. Its sorta like a reset button. I lose weight more..then whenever I like, I can switch back and forth. It balance the body out.
