Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

There are many tips I've included in this thread..but here's something I want to repeat again just because I thought its important.

This is how to discipline yourself to not snack.

Whenever you have the urge to snack and that urge is sooooo strong that you must have it? Guess what...

Before you eat it, Put the snack down. Read the calories per servings in the back.

Then calculate how long you must exercise to burn off just THAT amount.

Go exercise, run, or lift weight to that amount of calories that you would have consumed.

Usually you can burn like atleast 100 calories quick just by jogging 15-20 minutes.

When you're all done with all the workout and sitting there sweating it all out...cooling and relaxed..

Pick up the snack again.

The first thing you'll notice is you're no longer craving for it.

If you still are, then you can now safely consume it.

You will learn to discipline youself to not snack.

Hey, I'm pretty big.
250lbs. 6'0''
Everyone says at 20 years old you're supposed to be at your best, top shape, best looking ect.
Where do i sign up for some motivation? Haha.

I used to make myself throw up when i was younger but that only got me hungry again. lol, sad i know. :(

I know it's been said probably but any tips on good weightloss techniques and or diets? I'll read over the thread now.

You look hot for whatever weight you're claiming cutie! LOL...

Forget what everyone says, focus on what you say. Notice that you said "supposed to", as to in reality, we are suppose to be a lot of things that we are not.

My first advice to you is to start small. Don't go putting on those shoes and start running or lifting tremendous amount of weight and then... stop and stay away from exercise FOREVER.

Do little by little..get use to it. However that you're planning to lose weight..do it little by little first, that will last you a long time then rushing into it.

Focus on eating. Eat lesser calories..notice that totally does not mean eat lesser things..

Each food has it certain amount of calories. To maintain weight, eat 2000 calories. To lose weight, eat less.

For every lb of fat, you need to burn off or eat 3500 calories less.
So, instead of eating the normal 2000 calories a day...eat like 1500. Thats -500 calories less. 7 days of that and you lose one lb just by eating.. ofcourse, when you exercise, you'll lose more.

When it comes to dieting, don't think about diet things like "south beach diet" or those diet programs... don't even bother with the pills..

Dieting is fairly easy..just pick out food that has less amount of calories than normal.

For example..

1 slice of pizza (is about 250-300 calories per slice)
1 3 oz steak beef (the size of a deck of card is roughly the same calories)

The steak will last longer, has more protein less carbs, and give you the energy you need to workout/exercise.

Also, eat about 2 or 3 of those steaks and you're full to the limit. With the pizza, 2 or 3 slices of it is not even satisfying.

And...not to sound like your Mother but.. :p

EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!

Veggies has very little to no calories...except Potatoes...

You can look up the calories of food in the store in the NUTRITIONAL FACTS on the box or you can look it up online with a quick GOOGLE search.

beautiful start...exactly what I'm talking about. Something small like that..subtle changes can last you quite a long time and before you can even know it...

the weight's gone who knows when...

keep it up!

You want to lose weight?

My best advice I can honestly give and testify that it actually works?

Become vegan/vegatarian or a raw foodist. Give meat up completly aswell as dairy (dairy is actually processed fat and is known to cause cancer)

Drink lots of unflouridated water and exercise - if you to shy to go to a gym or go out jogging - jump rope.

I gave some really good advice above if you looking for a quick fix but if you really serious about your health - stop eating meat and diary.

Oh and one last thing - please know that not everyone can have that Adonis build - so as long as you healthy and love your body then you will ascend higher but if you model your body according to other peoples illusion of perfection - you will always be trapped.

Anyway, I've been promising to take some pictures as motivations for everyone and I don't know where I'd misplaced the before pictures..

I was 196lbs when I began this thread in May 2006. By November 2006 I had lost 30 lbs and was at 160lbs.

By May 2007, 1 year after I began dieting I was at 145lbs.

By May 2008 I was at 130 lbs. Now I weigh at 122lbs. Despite that I may be considered a bit underweight for my height, I'm perfectly fit.

I am still exercising, but I'm lifting weights for biceps and doing pushups for chest, hence the upper body. Thats everynight, for at least 45minutes to an hour.

As for running, I still run 3 times a week. Each run is about two miles under 20 minutes.

As for food. I eat breakfast either hot milk and tofu (tastes awesome! don't ask) or a bowl of oatmeal. Lunchtime is vegetables stir fry or whatever..but mainly vegetables. Snack is another bowl of oatmeal and lots of fruits. Dinner time is a small 3 oz of beef/chicken/or fish, with lots of vegetables. Late night snack is another bowl of oatmeal.

Here's a picture of myself today and you just can imagine me at 196lbs if you want to. I swore I had a folder of them pictures, but somehow they're gone.

So take these pictures as motivations, because with Motivations and determinations.... YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.

and NO, i did not intentionally sent pictures of myself nude. I was just playing with my webcam and flexing...with underwear on...at first...hahahaha

20 lbs lost :-)

oh and awesome job to everyone else. this is inspiring

I need to get back on track...I was doing so well for awhile...then I got a little sick so I got thrown off...and then the holidays came and i was way off...and now it needs to be done....I need to get back to buying my own food separate from my parents and get back to my workouts. My mom is starting Weight Watchers this week....so maybe it'll help with all the snacks they always have around the house.

and Great Job bwbw86! Keep it up!

SHAUN:

I know this is a politically incorrect notion, but exercising has never worked for me; because of the muscle tissue breakdown, it seems to increase my appetite. For me, the only thing that really works is calorie restriction, with a concurrent reduction of certain carbohydrates. (Chinese and Italian food make me gain weight very rapidly, irrespective of the calorie count.)

Of course we all have different bodies with different metabolism, so the current medical opinion of "exercise & diet" fails to satisfy.

JohanLarson,

I totally agree with you on such fact, that it is true, the more you exercise, the more it will increase your appetite and I will explain why it is correct. As we all should know by now, the term Diet, has several different meaning. In my own words, I will rephrase its definition to: Diet is a food, drink, or type of habitual nourishment consumed regularly for a special reason. That particular reason can be for anything beneficial to the body, it does not have to specifically mean "Losing Weight" as a person can have a diet where they try to reduce sugar.

Of which ever definition it is, it should mainly always be for nourishment and not malnutrition.

Your body metabolism and muscles works mostly by endorphins, which are like hormones released by your brain and spinal cords to the specific muscles, which in terms start a mechanical movement. For that to happen, energy is needed. Energy, in this sense, is actually the chemical result of the food digested. The more we exercise, the more energy we need to perform these activity. Therefore, to keep it simple and out of medical terms, We need food to give us energy. Without enough food, we will not have enough energy release into our muscles to keep on exercising.

Put into sense, Exercise and Diet goes along really well. It is just you've misunderstood Diet completely.

To lose weight and exercise, you still need to eat...eat a lot, but less calorie. That is a diet. In this diet, we consume tremendous amount of low calorie food to keep our body running and working efficiently..yet, we still need to have enough food to give us energy.

The other diet: Starvation or food cutback, is a wrong diet that will fail completely. Without enough food, there is no energy, thus failing at exercising, failing at the whole Losing Weight all together.

When your muscles get worked out, they break down and rejuvenates, resulting in more firmer and toner muscles. Without eating enough, the muscles break down, but has no energy to rejuvenates, thus resulting in muscle loss.

That diet, eating less and exercising, will only result in a smaller frame that eventually lead to skin and bones.

Therefore, try to think of exercising as not to losing weight...Exercising helps in the process of losing weight, but exercising is more for the appearance.

You can lose weight and look flabby and loose..or you can exercise and look toned and defined!

As for me, I like to stuff myself by snacking on fruits. They give you nutritional benefits as well as energy..the fiber in them helps with digestion, and you can have a big bowl of them and not regret consuming too much calorie...PLUS, when you go to the toilet a lot...you'll feel instantly lighter, creating the illusion that you've lost weight;)

So. I start a diet. And then break the rules.
And then slow down on excersizing and then... stop...

And I'm overweight.
And miserable.
And looking at all these hot guys, makes me feel more like shit.
It isn't motivating me, it makes me wanna crawl in a hole.

And I'm giving up, and people always tell me in person that that i just need to turn that fat into muscle and i'd be really goodlooking (They just being nice?) but i just don't see myself ever having that awesome cut body that i want, let alone, a not fat one.

I'm self conscious and tired of beating myself up.
But If can't even like the way I look, what the hell is going to make someone else?
I never wann have sex because it means getting undressed.
If someone ever compliments me it makes me feel bad. I'm like backwards.

Any advice would be great...

I dunno what to do.

First, Psychologically, you have to learn to accept yourself. Before you learn to change your self, you must accept who you are..and even though you feel all BAD right now, you are actually doing GREAT and on the right track.

The very first step is to realize, "I am fat." If I don't start now, I'll be fatter...no one will like me...ofcourse, we would always like to say "Beauty is in the inside" but by this time we've all realized that Life is Realistic..and realistically Beauty is on the outside. People judge by the book all the time... we just don't want to admit it.

Second, Physically doing it. Isn't life unfair? You can be fat so easilly...FAST, but to get skinny again..it will take forever. Accept that. Losing weight is not a short term commitment. You don't want to go on a "roller coaster" diet...What you want is a LIFESTYLE change, a lifetime diet commitment. Don't start exercising when you know that you will not pull through.

Third, comes the Motivation. You are a 20 year old, and is complaining about not being able to lose weight and be fit... Look around further, there are people who are in their 40s and is fit...people in their 50s and looks amazing. Why can't you?

Its because you are not motivated enough. I don't want to hurt your feelings but you have to learn to accept that you're a failure. Thousands of other people can do it, but you're giving up..not because you are not CAPABLE of doing it..just because you don't think you can.

I know I am being mean, but... it is YOUR LIFE. No one else can help you but yourself. Learn to accept it, accept who you are...and move on. You're a tremendously fat person now..alright..done..now quit whining and move on.

When you decide to lose weight again, here's a simple rule.
Choose something subtle..go easy on yourself. Something so easy your grandparents can do..for example..every morning wake up and take a walk before school/work. 15 minutes each morning, 10 if you're really in a rush and doesn't have the time. Motivate yourself man..start doing something. Get use to it, get up and do something. Another example is..take the stairs up! You won't die or break down into a puddle if you walk a few steps.

DO NOT BOOM BOOM BOOM and rush into a vigorous exercising routine. You can do it for today, what about tomorrow? Make sure that when you start something..you can do it consistently EVERYDAY or on a specific schedule. If you have the slightest doubt of not being able to do it...THEN DON'T.

Follow my advice... walk a few minutes each morning or within the day...15 minutes will not kill you.

You will soon start to develop a habit..and that is what exercising and diet is about. It is about creating good habits, not bad ones. Once you pass that easy test...start jogging...and so on..(onto more activities).

Yet, you must learn to start... Don't wait until you're severely overweight and beyond repair..start now!

If you are reading this daytime...drop whatever you're doing online and go for a walk. Pull a watch out and time yourself for 15 minutes and in the end, come back and tell me how "HARD" it was. If its late and at night...do it first thing in the morning.

Sometimes we cannot love our body. We must accept it, and start loving who we are, not as a fat person..but as a fat person determined to lose weight. That commitment and self determination, is what we should love and value. In someone else's eyes, a more disgusting figure than a fat person....is a failure who gave up on life. I know that I've been mean to you, but by now you should realize that all I was trying to do is throw you down a deeper pit. Once you are at the most deepest and darkest pit's bottom... you should realize you cannot go down any further and should start climbing up

Wow, i want to say thanks for that.

Well the thing is, I've started a diet again, my own makeshift plan to eat fruits and vegetables and avoid what evers on the dinner table. and every day I've gone walking for about 2 hours.
And ok, so i'm dealing without eating unhealthy foods that fine. I CAN DO THAT.
But Ok so I Walk until my legs are gonna fall off then I go home.

My problem is when it comes to jogging down the path which people use for jogging and biking, i run out of breath so fast.
Like, i don't get it. I know i'm out of shape, but how the fuck do i fix this.

The other day I said "I'm going to walk down the avenues until i feel like couldn't move any further AND THEN have to go all the way back." as a way to kinda force myself into doing more than i want, and i did and it was nice to get home and relax after being gone for 3 hours. but what does that even do for you?

I'm juggling quitting smoking dieting and excersizing.
I'm Trying.

But I don't know.

I'm not a 400lb whale, i should be able to JOG a little bit without being winded...

Even walking quickly, although it doesnt make me loose breath, i feel as if it's not doing anything for me.
So my legs burn. Oh boy. =/

I feel like it's kinda useless.

I don't know what I should be doing else to contribute.
I'm trying again and this time im GOING to stick with it. So I'm really going to try.

SORRY for the long read.

Glad you understood my first post to you. I want you to also understand that...maybe you don't feel like those walking did not really done anything for your body? Think again...

Walking is also strengthening your stamina. A person can NEVER wake up one day and decided I'll go jogging...they'll be so tired before they know it and wouldn't even last a mile. Walking is the most basic form of exercise, consider it like the first step. Once you get use to walking slow..start walking faster. Listen to some music on earphones, sync music that has a steady beat...from slow to fast. With that beat playing in the background, your legs will follow and that is how fast you will go. Plus, when your listening to music, it takes the attention off your legs and you'll forget about being so tired and bored out from walking.

Those long walks, will turn into jogs one day..without you even knowing it.

But, one problem... don't force yourself to walk too much in the beginning.
The time does not matter much as the distance and energy. Meaning, if you walk faster MPH, you can walk just as much in half the time.

Also, you burn calories through all form of movements and actions. Walking, burns off about 100+ calories per hour..depending on your weight and how fast you walk. I know that doesn't sound like too much calories, but along with all other movements throughout the day..you have burn more calories.

So, walking is very beneficial. Not only does it help build your stamina, it is a stepping stone for you to later go onto more vigorous activity..last, it better to burn some calories easilly..than not burn any and instead eat more... and finally, you're building leg muscles, abdominal muscles, your glutes (buttocks). You'll have a wonderfully tighter and firmer lower body in no time!

For example, you had a big meal that day... consumed 600 calories through a steak and mash potatoes. You walk 3 hours, burning about 300+ plus..
Not only are you building muscles and firming your lower body, you have also burned off half of what you ate that meal..

Now, if you didn't eat that much calories to begin with... you've burn extra calories..that is how you will lose weight! Plus, even if you chose to spoil and treat yourself with more sweets and snacks... you don't need to worry because those calories are burned off right after!

I must say though... walking 3 hours a day or until your legs falls off is...really HARD.

Please come up with a better plan, perhaps set an exact time and distance. You want to be able to do this regularly, than forcing yourself to start each time... cringing back in fear because of that LONG HARDFUL WALK!

phew!!what a great thread, I am exhausted just reading it and feeling VERY guilty.!oops!

phew!!what a great thread, I am exhausted just reading it and feeling VERY guilty.!oops!

Guilty huh? Easy, you can either go out there now ASAP, motivated and ready to exercise..

or you can stay in here and we'll spank you for being naughty. :p

Guilty is when you don't realize you've done something wrong until it is too late...its never too late to start losing weight..so Pixie, dont make me do this. :spank:

Hi im new to the forum, cool place...

i have been dieting for a while and i have lost around 80 pounds altogether i started at 260 and now im about 182,im also big built so my ideal weight would be 180,now ive been going to a trainer for a few months 3 times a week whos teaching
me the ropes of working out and i got my body fat down to around 20% but im still not seeing the results i want,i also cant seem to get rid of my stomach at my waistline,im eating very healthy and sticking to whole grains and as little fat as possible, does ayone have any ideas how to get the last of the skin off my stomach to make it flat?

one more question since dieting i started losing hair i was wondering if anyone knows what to do for that....

well just started today and so far so good but am feeling a little hungry and deprived how long have people found for this stage to pass?

So if anyone has some ideas for how i can schedule my food intake and what to eat that would be great. I can try to incorporate breakfast, and i need some lunch ideas that i can get from the grocery store, also I could ask my mom to make me certain things as she likes to eat healthy as well.

And any thoughts on improving my at home workout plans would be great.

Thanks~
Mike

Okay Mike, please don't give up. I know that in the past there have been countless times you have tried and fail, tried and not succeed, but I congratulate you on not giving up and is still fighting for it.

Try your best to find a suitable exercise routine all by yourself, I know its hard, but only you know what is best for you. I am glad you found the source of the problem, which is the eating.

I like to eat oatmeal for breakfast. Then an apple or two. Oranges are a great fruit to fills you up.

As for lunch and dinner, rather than eating all the salads and stuff that eventually does not fills you up. Eat something like a very lean steak broiled from the oven, or chicken breast. Salmon and other fishes are good too.

The main point is, create portions that depending on the amount of calories.

For example, a piece of 3oz beef steak is about 300 calories.
Compare to salads, which in most time the dressing alone is almost 100 calories, add with the hams or whatever that comes with your salads..your light salad can turn out to be around 200 calories.

Then you will realize that if you had the steak, which is slightly more in calories..but it will fills you up ten times more, gives you more protein and energy to exercise, and because it takes a long time to break down, you will feel less hungry through out the day.

Rather than deep frying, use Pam and cook try to cook most food. To put it in the oven Broiled, is better than to use oils and fry it as most of the fat melts away and dissolves.
Boiling it is also a great way.

They key to eat in moderation is, do not eat in one sitting.

Take that large piece of steak and divide it up into 3 equal sections. Eat one section first, then stuff yourself with fruits and veggies, drink water, then go and do something else.

Then when you're hungry again, have one more and repeat. By this time, you should realize you are no longer than hungry.

The eye is usually more hungry than the body. Therefore, you must let time to show you that your body is not that hungry at all.

Try eat very little carbs... that includes bread, rice, and noodles.
Do not drink sodas or any energy drinks, drink water or use premix vitamin C packets to make your own drinks.

Drink tea when you're at home if you're tired of water.

ofcourse, no snacking on chips and potatoes...POTATOES IS YOUR WORST ENEMY.

Instead, practice not to snack.

By eating small portions of meat, and more fruits and vegetables, you will be full enough to not snack.

The problem dieters fail is because they do not eat enough to be full.

Eat a lot of low calories food.. is better than starving yourself to eat a little bits of food... because in the end, you will snack and overeat.

I went from 250 to 238
I've lost 10 or so lbs i have to keep it up cuz it'd BE REALLY NICE TO LOSE MORE. lol
I cutting out soda and fast foods when i got out here was a good start before i started dieting.

Portion control sucks though. I'm still hungry after dinner. :(
But if it's working... :/
Now with some diet and working out a decent amount, maybe i can actually feela bit better about myself eventually.

I get really tired after working out though I've noticed (Go figure) is it bad to just relax and OR nap afterwards?

Like I said just in the post above, portion control doesn't mean eating little amount of food.

Portion control can also mean eating A LOT..a huge amount of low calories food...That way, you'll be full and yet the amount of calories consume is equivalent to a regular high calorie meal that you might eat more than one time per day.

Its not bad to nap and sleep at all. You've put your body through a rush of adrenaline when you exercise, the hearts speeds up and your body sweats, all results of excitement. Therefore, you should let it heal itself and rejuvenates by relaxing or taking a nap. Let the heart returns back to its normal pace.

Also, muscles gets tear and ripped as a process of exercising, by relaxing and breathing an adequate amount of air, your muscles gets a chance to do repair and rebuild itself stronger.

When you diet so fast and so extreme, the body shows sign of losing hair as a result to tell you to take it slowly. When you diet, you miss a lot of vitamins and minerals for healthy hair and nails and body. Reconsider what you need to start eating again to regain more vitamins and minerals in your body.

Finally, do not rush. It takes time... who said dieting and having ripped muscles abs takes a few months? It takes at least a year, if you're the really perseverance type. It could take longer.

To lose the last flab on your abs, the best way is to tighten it through certain stretching exercise, as that is how the body is suppose to work.

The position called the Plank works to tighten the skin... or the other position where you start out in a doggy style position :p and then lean forward arch your back like snack all the way toward, then hold for 10 seconds and pull back and repeat.

That movement is really effective as you stretch out both the skin and the muscles, then to come back and tighten it all up again.

1. Be honest.
2. Be nice.
3. Tell us your goals, how much weight you are planning to lose.
4. Tell us how you are planning to do it? What type of exercise.
5. If someone need motivation or questions, be open and nice enough to share your own secrets and ideas.
6. Stick to your plans, tell us what you have accomplished so far. Even if you didn't exercise at all, tell us why and we will help encourage you.

Right now, I'm 5'8"ish or there abouts. 220 pounds. I'm naturally muscular, so I look around 180. I want to trim my fat down and get down to an actual 160 pounds. It will be a lot of muscle and though I won't be able to get that toned swimmer look, I'll be beefier and I'll learn to live with it. I actually want a hockey build with abs.

My waist size has ballooned to a 36 and that's getting a tad tight. I'd prefer a loose 32.

Also, my thighs are thunder like and quite large. I'd like to reduce them too, so that when I walk, they don't rub together.

I'd like some tone in my chest and arms.

My diet has naturally evolved. I'm eating leaner and less with more vegetables, which was uncommon for me before. I've tried before, but the thing that I never tried (which I know - worked before) is running. My goal is to work up to running for 1 hour a day. I will start on a 10 minute run to begin with. I'm very heavy for my joints so I don't want to aggravate it too much.

I have a pool in the back, but it's more like a community pool. I could go there during the day to do some laps, but I'm not a real strong swimmer. I guess everything helps so I should just do it. I know I have to rest a lot for this stuff, so I'll try to take it easy to begin with and go from there.

Any tips - much appreciated. I'm a little reluctant, but I'm going to try it anyhow. I would say I need a lot of encouragement.
