Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

I need motivation to lose weight. I'm about 5'7 and weigh about 180 lbs. I mostly need help losing weight above my waist. I'm thinking of joining a gym but I don't know yet. What kind of food should I eat? Since I'm Mexican, we eat a lot of tortillas and fried foods and I don't have much of a choice in what to eat.

Just wanted to add, I have a bike but don't know how long I should ride it.

It's nice that you really want the weight off. That's a great step to start with. I can't speak for your nutrition so much, but I know that the key to losing the weight is to burn more than you take in. Have you considered jogging? Go for a jog and gradually increase your distance. You can also try things like situps along with other things such as weight lifting, etc. Make sure you're drinking water too, and cut soda down if possible. You're on the way there, but you need to get started, which I won't lie, it's the hardest part. If you can get started and make workouts a habit, then you'll have no problem following through.

I'm working out some as well... Here's what I've got going on.

I'm currently 18 years old, and I'm 5'9" at 127 lbs.

I don't really want to lose weight --- I'm already under the recommended weight for my age group. I'm trying to get more definition around my abs, pecs, etc. I just want to look better. I've been sick for the past two weeks, which meant no exercise. Now that I'm getting better it's time to start again. Bad part is that by now, I'm out of it. I don't want to go back, but I know I should.

I normally do 2 sets of 106 sit ups daily. I was just doing one set a few weeks ago. Not long after I switched to two sets, I got sick (starting school again, and people at work) so now I'm back to square one :( Ever wonder why you bother?

Closing in on three months of doing WiiFit.

Heh, WiiFit is awesome, I love the yoga exercises. Sadly, I can't stop playing more Brawl than WiiFit.

I'd personally love to have skinnier tights, even if I'm actually alsmost underweight. How am I planning to get them? Well, I've read I need to drink a lot of water and walk a lot. That's funny, because I drink lots of water, maybe I need to walk more. Any suggestions?

I have a collection of inspirational photographs. I have a folder on my computer with pictures of really hot guys with hot bodies that id like to look like. They stop me from eating junk, and if I'm to lazy to get up and exercise I just look in that folder, and I'm up!... haha it works!

Losing weight cannot be just "a problem area" only... losing weight is like exercising, it involves the whole body and not just one area.

Before you join a gym, you must be determine. Start exercising by yourself or tag along a buddy for motivation first. Go for long walks, then later on to jogs. Running is the best way to lose weight. As our body lose weight by burning calories or consuming less calories. To burn a pound of fat a person must burn 3500 calories either through exercise or consuming less calories intake.

This is what I am about to discuss next. All foods have calories that you can look for under the nutrition facts. Tortillas, and those soft shell tacos has a lot of calories. Add the beans and the cheese, and it becomes a very high-calorie food.

Just keep in mind that a person can eat 2000 calories a day. Eating more than that, the extra calories becomes fat. The best way to lose weight is to exercise and count your calories consumption.

For example: if one meal you had tortillas, some rice, and a soda... count all that down in calories. Determine how many calories in total is that, and if you wan't to lose weight, eat lesser meals.

Its hard to completely change what you eat but you must understand that for a person to lose weight they pretty much have to change their whole lifestyle.

Consider walking more distance, exercising, take the stairs instead of elevators, etc.

Instead of changing what you normally eat, just eat less of those normal stuff and inbetween meals have a salad, fruits, a home-made fruit smoothie for snacks.

Good luck! ;)

Yes! Great thinking! I encourage everyone to do this, infact, they could do something like me. I put them guys on my desktop wallpaper with the words: Exercise!, Time to run!, etc etc. to reminds me to get up.

When you look at a hot guy with perfect muscular body and a great set of abs on your desktop, you get so motivated and shame with guilt that you MUST get up.

Here are several tips for all of you:

1. Instead of going out to buy salads consider making your own.

You could get it cheaper and more veggies. Make 5 servings instead of one! Spice it up, don't always make the same one.

LOL.

Choose your dressing, and get the one with less calories...better yet, go online and get recipe to make your own.

Add white-breat chicken into your salad.

For myself, personally I like to eat the veggies first..then I eat the chicken later. Why? sometimes when I'm full from all the vegetables..I save the chicken for another day/time.

2. If salads is not your thing or you wan't to feel fuller, then eat oatmeal!

Make your own oatmeal. Don't get the instant one, but go for old fashion whole grain one or the steel-cut oats.
Sprinkle cinnamon powder on top, add a little low-fat milk, and then top it off with fruits!

You'll feel full fast and it helps great with digestions!

3. Cut the carbs, cut the fat, cut the rice and bread. Kill the sodas! Drink water, water only!

If you're bored with water, please make tea. One bag of lipton can brew a whole pitcher of tea. Warm tea can ease your hunger and is an anti-oxidant which help your health.

Last tip: If you MUST eat something...then go on ahead. If you can be determine and persistent to NOT eat it, then wonderful.

But...

if you're one of those people that crave for something special, why suffer yourself. You'll just end up eating that anyway (don't lie! hehe)...and we've all done that! :) Then in the end we'll feel so ashamed with guilt, but will eat it again because our craving is not finished.

That is why, whatever you crave you eat, infact, over eat! Don't limit yourself to have only one and ends up drooling over it. Have as much as possible to kill the craving, to the point where you're so disgusted with that food and you'll swear to never eat it again.

That is how I give up certain craving. I use to love icecream. After eating like a gallon of it, I got sick of it so fast and swore I'll never eat it again. Now whenever I see icecream, I still remember how sick of it I've got. ;)

Trust me, whatever you crave and must have..go ahead and have it. When you eat wayy too much of it, you'll be scared of it for the rest of your life.

Wow, nice job!(!)
You look alot healthier, what is your current weight?( If I can ask;))
Looks like the pecs has grown, or youve lost more around the waist.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

Keep up the good work!..|

Thanks! Its 165 pounds! I appreciate the compliments! As always you are looking PHINE!

I dunno if this has been suggested or not, it's an "extreme" diet to some people, but it's worked amazingly for me (and almost all of my friends). Try going vegan, that means no animal products whatsoever, including meat, milk, eggs, dairy, whey, casein, lactose, some people don't even do honey, which I don't think is that bad. Anyway, I lost 80 pounds in a little over a year when I went vegan and cut out all soda intake. Try doing it gradually, I did vegetarian for a while first, then went vegan. You'll feel sooo much better, lose weight, and not feel bad for eating cute animals.

^^^^
Same here. I agree with eating more vegetables. I am mostly the same, but not completely a vegan. No offense, as I do agree but I cannot have the commitment. I admire the will and courage but the only reason I dissagree is because it is not easy.

Vegan is hard.
You have to be really smart to know how to substitutes if you want to go vegan, because it is not easy. You need protein and lots of more other vitamins, that you have to find from other food source. Becareful about losing weights by completely getting rid of meat. Why? You can become too thin and become gaunt. Losing protein is not great, it may make you look thinner and better but without the proper diet and exercise, all you be losing is muscle mass.

Without protein, You'll end up being thin and flimsy. Soymilk and Tofu helps, but you'll have to eat a lot of it to replace.

So I don't recommend completely going vegan. You'll lose all those muscle weights too fast. Then when you don't have enough protein and you work out, you'll be burning all the muscles off your body.

Like I said, I am not completely a vegan because once in a while I'll have some meat. I can go without, but for my health, I must. Sometimes I can go for weeks without meat or animal products or sometimes months..but then I realize I'm too thin. When you're too thin.. you'll need something. That is why, I don't completely agree with going ALL vegan.

I'll eat vegan and then once in a while I'll have something special to treat myself. Like yogurt and milk, icecream, etc. Even though these food will seem like its bad for you but with the right amount of calories intake per day, you can eat them with pleasure. Just eat is a a reward, to treat yourself once in a while for all those hard efforts.

Like I said before in previous post, don't make losing weight a torture. Treat yourself, and make it a lifestyle. If you want to go all vegan, make sure you can make it a lifetime commitment...something your body is capable of taking.

Losing weight is hard, but makes sure you know when to stop.
Know to maintain a weight when you're at a desire goal because it can become an obsession. Do not lose more than you should. It is very EASY to become an obsessed with losing weight or develop an eating disorder or even the fear of gaining weight.

i've seen way too much people who try to lose weight and then ends up with an eating disorder such as Bulimia.

My one main body issue is...my body. lol.

In that I'm chubby. Not so you can see "Oh, he's fat", outwardly. Is the term puppy fat? I dunno.

I also have a horribly shaoed body, I look like a dumpy woman, I have fucking curves...(again not noticable in clothes...)

I've had it all my teenage life, and it makes me extremely self-concious, and I want to lose it. I don't want to join a gym, I don't really have the time. I started running a little a month or so ago, but then that fizzled out.

I don't even necessarily want to healithy lose weight (initially). I want to crash lose weight! (then I can decide what to do)

[/rant]

I'll come back with my plan.

LOL, ways to do a crash diet and lose weight fast! This is totally against my intention of having this post...but, you know what? I really want you to re-consider and decide what to do.

Ways to have a crash diet and lose weight fast is pretty simple..

The ONLY way to do this is reduce in calories.

The less amount of calories you intake in one day, whether through eating or burning off... the better.

To lose a lb of fat is a reduction of 3500 calories.

You can do this by starving yourself. Ofcourse, you'll die really soon, but 2000 calories a day reduce from starvation means atleast 1lb a day.

Since we all know that you CAN not starve yoruself:

1. Stuff yourself with vegetables.
Good=keep stuffing until your full
Bad= you might get boring with the bland taste, but like I said before, you can always improve that. spice it up!

2. Cut down sugary things that has lots of calories. No= sodas, deserts, sweats, candies, chocolate...
Good= you can avoid lots of unwanted calories.
Bad= you will crave for it. Ways to help is to eat fruits intead!

3. Carbs reduction. No or very little of: Bread, Rice, wheats, noodles...etc. Carbs related food.
Good= This also helps to lose a lot of weight fast.
Bad= You don't feel full. Ways to improve that is to eat vegetables more. Oatmeals, drink milk. Drink more water!

4. Do not snack, or snack healthy.
Good= another method of preventing or avoiding over intake of calories.
Bad= very boring if you don't snack on anything. Once again, snack smart. Eat fruits, vegies (like carrots, celeries dip in sauce/ranch), dried squid and drink water!

5. Skip Lunch. But careful, do not eat more at dinner. Do not skip breakfast.

The main thing in the morning is to have the necessary energy to go through the day. You need that food, but eat healthy.

If possible, skip dinner. Go to bed early. Drink lots of water. Drink tea! Something to temporarily fills you up.

If you can cut down to intaking about 1000-1500 calories in a day..

That is about 1 to 1.5 lb of fat in a week.

4 to 6lbs in a month. Sounds horrible? Well, ofcourse it is.

And then ofcourse, water weights could also be a factor.

If you do a little tiny bit of exercise each day..like 10 mins jumping jacks...your muscles will become toner and you'll look skinnier!

Like I said, there is no better way to do a crash diet besides extreme starvation.

Losing weights takes time... as you can see, even if you starve yourself everday and somehow manage to continue living...you'll only lose like 4 lbs a week.

So why not change the idea, and instead, opt for better ways to diet like I listed above. It might take slower, but with exercise it will be incredibly fast. Try and stick to it, it is better to step on that scale and unexpectedly found out you've lost tons of weights..

On a side note, I have found something that I want to share with everyone.

It only takes about 8 minutes of your precious life!

I have been doing this for a week or so, ever other day..and I'm having amazingly abs results. I can see my abs now and they are protruding further, popping out!

You'll feel it in seconds, the burning and the sweating; the amazing feeling that you know it is working.

Not only that.. the voice is pretty motivational. It keeps you on a stead constant rhythm and I found it to be quite helpful, almost like its telling me "you can do it" and keep going on!

I have it on my iphone so I can listen to it with my headphones as I work out.

Try it!

Then leave a reply telling me how you thought of it, and ofcourse, share with others!

Looks like a good ab workout, but doing this alone won't get you a sixpack. First you've got to get your body fat down under 10% ( My abs show at around 9%, others need to go as low as 5-6%).

Agree on the voice, it's very motivational.

If you looking for a fast and healthy way to lose weight try this - lets say you wanna look good for a wedding or whatever or just need a jump start to losing weight.

Cut meat out of your diet - I recommend you start by eating only fish and chicken and then later on stop eating meat. You only eat vegatables and fruits, also make sure you get in 4 litres of water a day!

Every morning you drink warm water with a freshly squeezed lemon half with a teaspoon of honey.

During the day when you crave something use the other half of the lemon and 2cm piece of ginger root crushed - make yourself some ginger lemonade and DON'T use sugar ONLY honey.

Also if you can brave it - take 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinager at least twice a day.

Only eat full corn bread - you know the one with all sorts of seeds etc lol

Try fasting for 3-7 days, don't eat anything but drink lots of water or freshly made lamonade with honey and cayenne pepper.

Have a weekly enema!

Another go on a extreme detox program - i recommend you see a dietician and also arrange some colonic irrigation sessions while you are on the program.

When it comes to motivation - just do it and get it over with - just let it come naturally. I noticed when I changed my diet to semi-vegatarian and on my way to becoming a vegatarian that I don't force myself to do anything - I just let go and do the things as if I have done it my whole life.
Don't weigh yourself - instead do the pant size test - I don't want to lose kg's just drop a pants size so I try on a pants one size smaller and i work myself down to that size.

Don't waste money on gym memberships unless you want to build muscle so guys look at you but if you love your body but you just wanna be healthy - jump rope if you to shy to go out joggig and also clean your house lol - really does work.
Combine your rop jumpng with some streching and light yoga - also dance! Another thing I do is I pull my stomach in as far as I can till I feel slight strain and release - 5 of those, and lastly I massage my stomach - improves bowel movements.

Maintain a positive attitude and just smile at yourself and others. Also know that not everyone can have a Adonis body - so get that out of your mind otherwise you will stay negative and you will fall back onto very unhealthy patterns.

Also know a very unattractive side of losing, putting on weight and building muscle is strechmarks - counter this by using a soft body brush before you shower and use a sponge instead of a facecloth, use shea or coca butter, bamboo milk shower gels, andafter your shower massage in some cocoa or shea butter cream - they available at African markets - find a Ghanian market close to you and stock up on cocoa and shea butter. Also use vaseline lotion - unfragnaced combined with some johnsons&johnsons tissue oil and a few drops of shea or cocoa oil. This is what the pregnant woman here in Afrique use to counter strechmarks also it gives your skin a lovely glow and you smell delicious. Combine this with a dash with some chocolatini pheromone - you will have people coming up to you just wanting to smell you lol

Thats my 2cents hope it helps.

My top weight was 256. I've been dieting and exercising for about a month now and have lost 9 lbs. I feel so much better. I have more energy. It's really tough sometimes because I want to snack but I have to convince myself not to. Good job to everyone else.
