Need Motivation To Lose Weight?!

Hey loki - when you were on such a highly restricted diet, did you feel able to be active or did you feel low on energy for that time?

It seems like everyone is all talking about protein. Is it a healthy way to eat? Should we be eating all the different nutrients and not be so protein focused?

I hear a lot of people say that, and I'm not sure it's true. Let me explain. I'm not sure it's not... not true either.

Me eating involves shoveling food in my mouth until my stomach says stop. By then, I'm too full. I'm trying to cut down on that, but it's tough. I truly believe that this small part of eating may be the be all and end all of my diet woes, so I kind of let it slide. It's a catch 22 and it's not good. Banking on something that isn't a certain thing is never good.

I respect and value your opinion. Since you have gone through it, I will attempt to do this to my best ability. I will attempt to each my protein first, followed by veggies and then carbs and eat slowly and drink lots of liquids. This is good right?

I will commit to doing this for one week and then re-valuate and see where I am then. Do you think this will help?

No soda, I can do. That's easy. Lots of bananas around and soups. I'm trying to make more consomme soups. That should have less calories in it. Maybe I need to make more chicken cesar salads too? Any tips for meals? I haven't gotten my head around this 6 meals a day, business.

I did it! I'm jet lagged, so let's start with that. This morning, I teetered on whether I would run. I did. I waited for the right time again. It was 3am. Should I run now or wait. I putz around for an hour and left at 4am. I didn't run solid for half an hour, but it was more like 2 40% around the block sprints and some walking in between. However, I finally ran around the entire block.

To put this in contrast, I had not run in over a decade. I fear something would happen to my knees. I'm a little more excited and pumped a compared to yesterday. I feel I did something today. I will be doing this tomorrow too.

After my half hour out, I came in and had a banana and some roast beef from last night. I drank a bottle of water and then here I am, telling the world. I might try to do a bit of a swim tomorrow sometime. Hopefully it's not too hot outside. Some running in the morning, some swimming and healthy eating seem like it could really help my diet.

Hey guys,
I'm 18 and I haven't been really slim for a long time. I'm not overweight or anything, but I'm just not that confident without a shirt on. I've tried to exercise multiple times over the past three years, but I just stop after a while. More recently I started running with my iPhone for music and a nice program called MiCoach which tracks a lot of stats. I was going good and following a plan, but one workout was just a bit too intense and something came up on a workout day, which once again led to me quitting.

I've once again found some motivation and am trying to build a plan for myself including running and some exercises at home, like pushups, pullups and a bit of boxing. I just decided I'm going to get up early in the morning and just run. I'm not going to make it harder and just start. I'll see how far I get. I'm just hoping you guys here can help me stay motivated. Anyway, I'll see how it goes.

I have always had issues with running. I don't mind going on the cross trainer at the gym. I can do crunches till the cows come home, but not the pushups. I guess I should focus on the exercises which are the difficult ones?

my motivation is my new pair of jeans from my boyfriend..he gave me that to loose weight...;)

3 weeks on a reduced (not really low) carb diet, and I feel great! The craving for carbs late in the evening has gone down, and I have developed a taste for low-carb substitutes like spaghetti squash and mashed cauliflower.

My clothes fit a little bit more comfortably although the number on the scale hasn't changed because I've been putting on muscle, too.

I think I'm ready to reduce the amount of carbs I'm eating even more since this diet has been so manageable for me. Right now, I probably get 100 gram/day which was already a 50% reduction from what it was previously. I could probably manage 50 gram or even less per day.

Its almost like a new lifestyle! I was 205lbs back in april 2010 and I am currently 165lbs from dieting and doing the elliptical. Its hard but needed as Im not getting younger!!!

It IS a lifestyle. That's the best and only way to treat it in the long run.

hi everyone for me i just don't have enough motivation to keep excerciseing i'm probably way either 260 to 300 lbs that's just an estimated guess cause i haven't been on a scale

but as far as diet i try to eat more fruit and vegetables as possible i eat chicken and fish but not sure what else to eat and i try to limit the portions i give my self as for salads greens i perfer spinach or lettuce or mixture of both

i used to do the elliptical and the tread mill but that was bout it maybe i will go back to it and maybe walk for a few miles or less

I have weighed around 200-220ibs most of my adult life. I have tried many diets and none of them worked. I joined several gyms over the years just to stop going due to me being bored shitless. I lack motivation and willpower, even though I know I'd feel better if I lost a few pounds.

This year is going to be different!

I work for a hospice / charity and I plan to raise money for them by doing the Great North Run which is a half marathon in the North of England and takes place in September.

As well as raising money for the hospice, it will help me loose the weight I have been trying to loose for years.

Current weight: 220ibs
Target weight: 160lbs

Plan: run 3 x week on set days: Mon, Wed and Fri.

I am using the C25K iPhone app to help increase distance and stamina, which alternates between walking and running with the walking sections getting shorter over time with the aim to run 5k.

I will then build up to being able to run 10k, then the half marathon over the next 9 months.

Fingers crossed.

this thread is very inspiring! As for my own weight loss issues, I am 5' 5" and currently weigh 125-ish. I want to lose about 10-15 lbs in 2-3 months.

A couple of years ago ('06-'09) I gradually went from 180 lbs to 120 just by cutting out red meat and nasty snack foods like chips and non-diet soda. I don't work out at all and i didn't change the amount of physical activity I got.

Last October I weighed about 115 which looked and felt like a good weight for my frame. at the time, I was working and going to school so of course I got more physical activity in those long days.

If I had to guess I would say that I currently eat about 1000-1500 calories a day. I drink tons of coffee when I wake up, I work nights mostly, I eat almost nothing at work and drink lots of water, but when I get home I have terrible cravings for SALT and SUGAR that I feel like I will die if I dont indulge (which I do).

my plans to lose the weight include gradually cutting out the coffee, eating more during the most active portion of my day, eating a lot less at night, and gradually getting started with some kind of cardio. Now if only I could figure out what I need to be eating (and not feel like crap) that would make this process a little easier :P Thanks!

I have managed to go from 102.5kg (226lbs) to 92.5kg (196) in 7 weeks. Just need to lose another 18kg (40lbs) until I reach my goal.
