The odd thing is I seem to do better actually going out there to the baths or other cruising spots than be on the Internet or grindr. I do not do well on grindr. Last year I signed up in the fall only had one good sexual experience. But I think an issue people ignore is men of colour can be just as bigoted. When I go on grindr I rarely get messages from black men or Asian guys the majority of the messages I get are from white guys. The gay scene definitely has a race problem or issue. In Toronto most gay sexual spaces I know as a black man I am a minority. I rarely see black guys except at Steamworks in Toronto on a Friday or Saturday night. I think it is more complicated than the op suggests. Men of colour we also have our own biases and prejudices.

Now we're getting to the nitty gritty. Everybody isn't going to be everybody's cup of tea, but when you ask a lot of these people to explain their preferences there's usually a mountain of ignorance and generalization behind it. "I don't like black people cuz they're just so ghetto!" I've seen comments as such expressed more than a few times here on JUB. Often times this preference for non-blacks excludes those who aren't tradionally black ie baggy pants, hat backwards, walk with swag, listen to hiphop, urban stylings etc. What they mean to say is they don't like the black typecast.

If you're ever able to really push someone past all the polite excuses and get them to explain "no Asians" you get to hear things like "well, you're all bottoms with small ones right?"

I still think it is a childhood issue.
When you see most of the media characters/heroes (TV,film,shows,movies ... etc) are mostly European look, you tend to attracted to that.

Because white men are the most openly gay guys. Majority of black guys are closeted and aren't available, majority of asian guys are closeted and aren't available.

The prime race you see on these sites are white, so mathematically, as a gay person of color, you are more than likely going to attempt to venture with a partner that is white.

But how can you when they don't date any race but white?

I think it is about demographics although white gay men complain about homophobia they still have white male privilege they still are a majority. In Toronto there are plenty of Asian men OUT of the closet particularly East Asian gays. The problem is men of colour who are gay have other baggage and issued. Think about it in Toronto most black men are of African and Caribbean heritage got to deal with homophobia from straight blacks. Some are fearful of being seen in gay spaces. I think some white gay men forget it takes courage to go to a bathhouse or a gay bar. So men of colour are a minority in a white gay majority. On top of that in gay spaces I rarely see black men maybe a few and who is to say a black guy would be aromatically into me? Everyone has their preferences. As a gay black man looking to get off in a bathhouse there are likely to be majority white men. If a good looking white guy wants to suck my dick I am not going to say no! I also noticed I have gotten dirty looks from some black men if I look or appear to approach them. So my strategy is I do not approach anyone. If a guy wants me he has to step to me NOT the other way around. I do not chase never have never will. I am not saying I score great all the time I have good days and bad. Some days I can get 20 blow jobs other days I only get 4 to 6 blow jobs. I always get white guys who want to get fucked but I am selective I do not just fuck anyone. I got to feel really attracted to a guy to fuck him. He also has to have good hygiene. I fucked a young black guy a few months ago in Toronto he was a really good lay.

I think yes whiteness is placed on a pedestal in gay culture but I think it is also about location. I want to visit a big American city i am guessing their gay scenes are different. Like in Atlanta they must have their own black sex spaces? Can you imagine a predominately gay bathhouse? In Toronto it is definitely about demographics. There are simply not a lot of black gay men out in the gay scene. What choice do I got? As a minority in the gay scene in Toronto if I want to get laid on s Friday or Saturday night if I go to gay spaces the whites are the majority. At the baths if a white guy wants to suck my dick and I find him good looking I am going to let him suck my dick. Also I go to gay sex spaces and I see other black men but we avoid each other. I never want to make a mistake that just because a man is also black means he is into me. If a black guy likes me HE has to approach me. And that does happen.
