No Kings Day

Yeah. A lot of those are out there demonstrating so that the 'white trash' can keep their benefits. And few of them will be driving Teslas.
Maybe that's true of some events.

I was perhaps a bit unclear in that my talk was a specific No Kings event in a specific location.

I also realized another good reason to stay away from the nearest No Kings Day event. Given where it's held (bedroom community with money), the people attending probably only want other Tesla owning, $100/bottle "cheap weeknight" wine drinkers types to show up. They surely wouldn't want a piece of white trash like me to come in.
I can't speak for your city, but here, in the largest city in Alabama, the turnout was in the thousands, in the rain on an off, and had signs and outfits of every stripe, incluiding trans rights, racial justice, women's rights, abortion rights, immigrant worth, and most with signs about the abuses of the administration.

There were poor people, street people, young people, old people, even in wheelchairs.

Everyone was smiling, happy, and accepting of one another. No violence. No rage.

It was indeed very encouraging. Hundreds of passing cars honked in support.

Several engineers from my company were present. People of all ages and races were there. I left feeling more hope.

My placard almost didn't dry in time this morning. It was just some big carboard boxes I cut and glued together, primed, painted with white, and lettered.

I was using a blow dryer to get it to be ready on both sides.

Again, the city is largely a well off demographic. I suppose I could have theoretically gone to another city--but it would have been harder getting there, plus I just no longer feel safe there.

I left feeling more hope.

I'm envious--it's been so long since I've felt any feeling of hope, I'm not sure what the word even means now.

Make yourself go to something. The No Kings events were part of Indivisible. The emphasis was on becoming an activist. Other local events are planned. Go to the Indivisible website and search. You'll find hope if you start down the path and meet others who feel the same. Even having someone to text or email with can be a boost.

I probably should try to get to something... But part of me honestly thinks I'd be as welcome as a turd in a punch bowl, given that I'm so cynical about the "Democratic" Party. I sure have gotten a lot of hate on-line--including this site--and that really does nothing to make me feel comfortable about real world events. I suppose I could lie, and say I thought Kamala was the greatest and who wouldn't consider Biden the best president since FDR!? But that lying/pretending takes a lot of energy...

I didn't see the word Democrats anywhere. A lot of people are not sure what is going to coalesce, but we're not going gently into the night.
No, but it's my assumption people who show up at No Kings probably are supporters of that particular party.

I may be over sensitive, though, given some of the treatment I've gotten on-line. It completely drove me off one site, which I still mourn years later. I wonder at times if that fate won't be in store for me here, too. (Yes. I know. Don't let the door hit me on my way out.)

I've never met people in person in social gatherings or public who were as hateful as the people are online, hiding behind their anonymity.

I by no means perceived the crowd as exclusively Democrat. Many people are Independents, as am I. Many people are pretty a-political, but have reached a limitt of tolerance with the present corruption.

I'd just encourage you to bust a move and let things evolve naturally rather than second guess them. It will be more good than not. I'm sure of it.

It was great! It's a start. We have to keep it up to be effective. There were thousands downtown and thousands at each of several other locations throughout the Metropolitan area.

The National Guard had nothing to do. Our stupid Governor can send them home now.

Nope didn't go to any. As much as I hate our dictator, I really have no interest in going to protests (plus I had other commitments this afternoon) If I was to go to that type of thing I'd more be the guy off on the sidelines holding a camera rather than signs.

There was a No Kings event in the nearest town which isn't that far from me (~20 min drive) I doubt very many people attended, same for the various other towns within a half-hour drive that had one.

I'm sure the one down in the nearest big city (Denver) probably got thousands of protesters. Between the drive to the train-station & taking the train, thats a ~ hour travel time to get to the city. that alone would be reason enough to not go ... and even more I'd avoid it just because down there it could easily turn into a riot (something you wouldn't have to worry about with the smaller suburban town events)

I didn't watch the news this evening to see if there were any 'issues' anywhere here, so have no idea how things went.

No, but it's my assumption people who show up at No Kings probably are supporters of that particular party.

A very substantial portion where I was today were independents. There were also some very visible Libertarians, a group of Republicans for the Republic, and a group of Gun Owners of America standing up for liberty.
I even noticed a former Republican party county chairman sporting an anti-Musk sign.

Don't worry, you haven't reached the limitt of tolerance yet. ;)
You really shouldn't read my posts.

It will only encourage me.

On the double T's, I really do believe it is my laptop's keyboard somehow misfiring doubles on some letters, as it doesn't happen at work on my laptop there, nor on my phone, so should not be motor-neural.

Not willing to replace my laptop for it.

I will admit to the laziness of not proofing, and not activating grammar checking options, which are often incorrect and annoying.

I really need to start looking for a new brain. Or at least hire a copy proofer.
Ohters here, particularly one person who clearly hates my commentary on politics, would probbly say any brain transplant should go to me, first....
