What's this I keep hearing that the Dems only have 55 votes on the Defense bill?

Sen Brown previously said publicly that he would not support a filibuster. Is he going to go back on his word?

Are the moderate GOP senators Collins and Snowe really going to block this?

Are 4 Democratic senators really going to be so idiotic that they would join the Party of NO on blocking this important bill which funds the entire military?

I really hope these reports are mistaken.

^^^55 have CONFIRMED they will vote to end the fillibuster. There is always some who are undecided/won't say who end up voting yes. Also, a lot of the new controversy is as a result of Harry Reid insirting the DREAM Act into the bill (which he may have to remove to break the fillibuster).

Also, I will be genuinly shocked if Olympia Snowe votes against ending the fillibuster (and in many ways, Scott Brown too). Her seat is in danger of flipping in 2012 (and many experts say she should just consider changing parties).

What the fuck is wrong with this decrepit John McCain?

That geezer is filibustering Don't Ask Don't Tell. He doesn't want you in the military. Hey faggots, you're second class citizens. Wasn't McCain for equal rights for gays until he was against them? That old fart needs to retire and quit politics. He's one of the sleaziest politicians in the country.

Milquetoast, coward, Harry Reid must, must, must, turn the cameras on and force the Republicans to filibuster the bill as the filibuster is meant to be used. He must let the cameras roll while Republicans get up there for hours, upon hours on end reading a book on Dr. Suess or the Bible, or whatever for all of America to see. Additionally, he must roll out the cots and run the Senate 24/7 unabated until the bill passes. Lastly, the Democrats need to be on the news shows telling the truth to America by saying that the Republicans hate America and hate the troops for dragging their feet.

The Republicans have caved the other 3 times he's done this in the past year. He MUST do this again. He should have been doing this all along, but he's such a milquetoast, coward, I doubt he will. Harry Reid is Progressive's worst person in Congress. He needs to be replaced, unless he finds his sagging Morman balls and runs the Senate as he should.

IF they make them stay overnight to vote over and oaver again and filibuster FOR REAL, it would end.

Lets remember... they are filibustering the military Bill that has the DADT language in it, correct?

Which times were these?

The Republicans have used the filibuster more times in this Congress than anytime previously.

The only other time I recalled where they held all nighters was the health care debate but the Dems had the 60 votes themselves then.

Notice that he was only for equal rights for gays when he thought it meant getting some stupid homos to give him their vote. Now that they've denied him his dream, he's making up for all those false words that were so painful for him to have to say.

I follow The Advocate on Twitter, and they reported him saying "Using the DOD bill to push a social agenda, I find that reprehensible." That's funny, McCain, because I find you reprehensible. Not to mention pathetic.

Some things I've checked:

Ben Nelson went from Yes to undecided after the insirtion of the DREAM act. I'll check some more about the others.

Ugh, Reid better not fuck this up.

The DREAM act hasn't even passed the House yet. There's no reason it has to be in this bill.

So . . . the votes that there are not enough of are to pass the DREAM Act, not DADT. I see. Yes, that needs to be taken out. The Defense Authorization Act needs to pass, and DADT is not the holdup.

You know they'd have to change the Senate rules to do that, don't you? While that's theoretically possible, it's not going to happen.

I've received emails from votevet.org and Organizing for America. Votevets is asking us to call our Senators to get them to vote for the bill and Organizing for America is asking to call McCain and ask him to not fillibuster. My senators are impossible. I would receive an email saying they are interested in my thoughts and to keep emailing while they do nothing.
Can't see where calling McCain would help either. If anybody is interested here is his phone # (202) 224-2235.

It hasn't been added yet. The proposal is to have a vote on adding it, but before that could happen 60 votes to overcome the filibuster are needed.

When this DADT thread was raised a week or two ago triumphantly as a done deal, I said I wasn't convinced it would pass and leery of the entire thing.

A bunch of you jumped on my ass as being a negative Nancy, "using weak reasoning", and "didn't know what I was talking about". And yet, here we are, exactly as I feared.

If DADT doesn't get passed because of the goddamned "Dream Act" it will be a tragedy. But then self-righteous Dems can get up and whine & piss their pants as they tell us "they tried soooooooo hard". Puke!

I've seen this shit so many times it isn't funny. Hence why I was so cautious a week ago. I hope to god this thing passes, but won't be surprised if it doesn't, sadly. Call me jaded.

Well my comment specifically about "weak reasoning" was solely regarding your suggestion that Lieberman wouldn't support it. He certainly will.

Can't speak for others but I nowhere implied that it was a done deal or that everyone would support it. I agree that it is nowhere near that certain.

I'm not sure they were jumping on your ass because of this....

but I recall being the other poster who didn't believe for one minute, that DADT would ever come up before the election and I doubt if it will after, either. In the first instance because it would give the right wing a major wedge issue that could swing votes and in the second instance because everyone will start to fight the 2012 election the day after this one is over.
