NY Mets 2013

I always wish I could be concise like syam, but I've mentioned when I start writing, hard for me to stop!;) Some more homers given up by Mets starting pitching, this time Jon Niese giving up those two homers to Giancarlo Stanton who's got, of course, all kinds of awesome power. Yet Niese otherwise pitched very effectively otherwise and thankfully for everyone the relief provided no drama, getting the job done efficiently. Yep, Hawkins was VERY erratic early on, and every once in awhile still gets whacked around but in the second half has settled down nicely and is generally doing a very good job filling in for ailing closer Bobby Parnell.

Love those pics of Murph and a mischievous JT... Murph really has provided a great example on the field in his character overall. Only flaw really is his streakiness... gets so hot for awhile, gets cold for a few days... then going into another scorching streak. He otherwise is like a rock going in there every day giving his all and he's just loved by his teammates. Perfectionist and demanding of himself but has no ego, it's all for the team no matter what. With all the question marks the Mets have going into the offseason at least one thing is definitive.... the Mets are more than okay at second base with Murph.

JT makes me laugh... between JT, KB, and Jay Horwitz sonny has enough wild and crazy guys NEVER to get bored!:p

Split decision in yesterday's doubleheader against the Marlins. Carlos Torres was okay but Mets downed 3-0 in the early game but come back to win 3-1 in the nightcap with a very good performance by Dice-K allowing only one run on a home run and two hits in seven innings. Mets powered in the nightcap by third inning back to back homers of their own, Daniel Murphy's 11th and Lucas Duda's 14th. Wilmer Flores breaking a 1-26 slump knocked in the other Met run. Nice to see the Mets display a power show of their own with multiple homers, we've seen the opposition recently smoking the long ball off our starters..t's always fun to get the Big Apple popping up in celebration there over the center field wall!

Mets ended the weekend home series with the Marlins with a 12th inning 1-0 victory on a walkoff RBI on a two out, based loaded single by rookie catcher Travis d'Arnaud scoring Lucas Duda who had earlier walked. Thrilling feeling for the young catcher who has been slumping badly but who has been greatly supported by his manager Terry Collins and fellow players. Amazingly, it was his first walk off game winner ANYTIME in his career .Missed opportunities for both teams but ultimately a pitcher's duel in which the Mets bullpen was just a little bit better. Starter Dillon Gee reverted back to his terrific form of recent months going seven and a third scoreless innings, giving up eight hits, two walks and had eight strikeouts. The bullpen as noted was tremendous, and most notable was Germen Gonzalez( who had been ripped recently by opposing batters AND myself) He went two innings allowing one hit and struck out 5 showing some real domination. Then Vin Black, acquired in the trade along with minor league second baseman Dilson Herrera for Marlon Byrd and John Buck, got his first MLB victory pitching the 12th flawlessly.

I'm leaving it for sonny but Travis d'Arnaud got a pretty sweet reaction from a certain mischievous Met in celebration of his first ever walk off victory hit!;) Tomorrow the Giants come in for a three game series, then the boys go off on their last road trip before ending the season back at CitiField against the Brewers.

I was away and missed that game yesterday but no one got a bigger laugh out of that than Kevin and to be to be fair KB he did warn about Turner; KB tellin him if you are doing and interview and JT is around expect just about anything . Also Hawkins is not new to that sort of thong either he is quickly becoming another one to keep an eye one often throwing many hand full of seeds at KB and his guest during interviews. Latroy has his mischievous side as well and put him and Turner together and you are just asking for it.;) Turner is a crazy dude when he and Ike room together during the season Ike never knows what was going to happen he just knew it was. JT just a big goofy happy kid who just happens to play great baseball ya gotta love him.

I know I have told you guys how much fun the boys have playing together keeping in mind that Murphy Ike and Satin are very close friends and here is an example of that

Aww, loved them, sonny... fun seeing JT and his wingman LaTroy executing the perfect pie-ing! Not sure who the new repoerter interviewing Travis was, but he took it like a good sport. Bet he has also heard of the legend of JT from KB!

The Josh Satin miked one was terrific... goofy and fun Daniel Murphy teasing Josh and Ike and JT giddily joining in the fun... love moments like this, showing the players as guys who really have personal chemistry with each other and love the way they just enjoy each other's friendship. I knew Ike, Daniel and JT have that endearing chemistry but until now hadn't known Josh Satin was this fun and loose, too. Thanks as always for this lovable perspective on the boys!:D

That’s Andy Martino he works for the Daily News but often appears on SNY shows and is now filling in for KB on the weekends during football season.

All the boys get along really well but there are a few very close friendships.

JT thought it was time to indoctrinate Brian into the pie alumni.
Ya know with Justin there is always the devil in them their eyes

It came as no surprise to me that Matt Harvey will hold off on surgery he wants to try to rehab his elbow for a month or so after which he will try and throw to see how he feels. So Harvey did pretty much what he said he was going to do but of course he is far from outta the woods on this he will of course have to have the surgery in the long run if the elbow continues to be an issue, Many are saying this is not a good idea that he is just holding off on the surgery which may be inevitable. But hey, I say it’s his choice and his carrier he has faith in the rehab and in his body healing I support whatever Matt decides and wish him nothing but the best. I will be interested in hearing Ron Darlings thoughts on this tonight

David Wright will not return tonight as originally thought I will have more on that tomorrow. The lineup will be Young LF, Lagares CF, Murphy 2B, Duda 1B, Flores 3B, den Dekker RF, d’Arnaud C, Tejada SS and Wheeler on the mound. Notice the switch with den Decker moving to right and Lagares in center

Jerry Seinfeld will be in the booth with Gary Keith and Ron tonight it will be the second time he has done that. First he will appear on the Mets First Pitch show with Chris Carlin and Bobby Ojeda at 6:00 p.m.. Then, he will join the booth for the game at 7.

Kevin Burkhardt also returns tonight

It’s the Mets and the Giants, so we get to play spoiler here with the Giants at 69-81, narrowly ahead of the last-place Colorado Rockies in the NL West.

Wild Wheeler last night as Zack after a good start had trouble with command again walking six in five innings. Only allowed three hits but four runs as the Mets lose 7-4 to the San Francisco Giants. Not a great effort for Germen Gonzalez in relief after being spectacular in his previous effort. Murph's still red hot with two hits including his 36th double and an RBI.. Eric Young scored a run and had two hits, also stole his 39th base.

I read that Harvey saw Dr. Andrews and was advised the elbow was still very stable, and this more conservative course of healing and rehab might indeed be the best in this situation ( especially since Roy Halladay had a similar partial tear which was healed without surgery and for the next decade he dominated with no ill effects.) Sandy Alderson did seem to indicate that if after two months the elbow doesn't respond to natural healing process Matt would have the surgery and it still wouldn't take him off schedule for being able to pitch in 2015. It would be nice though that the treatment option Matt will go with results in him being ready for the 2014 season and not missing any appreciable time at all.

Mistake on the score... it was SF 8, Mets 5... Eric Young knocking in a run not scoring one. :o

When Harvey was told by the doctor that his elbow was solid it was very encouraging and punched the ticket for him to make the decision to rehab rather than have surgery. The media was vocal as I expected some agreeing with the decision and some saying he should have the surgery now and not wait till it breaks down in April and have it then. But look, he is only asking for a few weeks 6 or 7 maybe to try the rehab after which he will do some throwing and see where he is at even if he needs the surgery he will still be ready for 2014.I knew KB agreed with me on this but it was great to hear Ronnie Darling give his seal of approval as well.

David Wright is fine he is having no ill effects of that hammy issue it’s just that he is a little worn down from working so hard these last few weeks to get back in playing condition. All he needs is a couple of days off now and he will be good to go. I expect David will play in the Phillies series this weekend which will give him just about a week of playing time to the end of the season. This is all David really wanted, a chance to finish the season on the field and not on the DL then he can relax do his usual off season charity work get married and be all set to go to Florida in February

A lot of the guys are feeling the effect of the long season; Daniel Murphy who has played in almost every game this year is no exception he now puts Icy Hot on both his legs before each game.

Travis d'Arnaud, who left the game last night after getting hit in the shoulder will be ok he just need a day or two off. After he got hit he started to stiffen up a bit and he had a tough time throwing to second. Then as the next inning went along he started having trouble throwing the ball back to the pitcher. He just needs a day or two off. Centano catches tonight

Lineup tonight Young, Jr. LF, Satin 3B, Murphy 2B, Brown RF, Duda 1B, Lagares CF, Tejada SS Centeno C and Harang on the mound

Daniel Murphy and a couple of the guys were out to Long Island to visit the Henry Viscardi School again the school is one of the best institutions for teaching kids with severe physical and medical disabilities. Murph visits often he loves those kids.

Thanks as always for the updates and especially for the Murph stuff. Really a great young man with a big heart for the community and those players that joined him as well being there it must have really made those kids' day!

I'm with you on Matt Harvey, especially since Dr. Andrews had assured him that the elbow was still structurally sound. It can't hurt to wait 6-8 weeks..... if there's little to no improvement have no doubt Matt will do the surgery soon to be able to pitch in 2015. But if rest and rehab can indeed fix the problem why not try it and avoid surgery in the first place that would cost him most if not all of 2014? KB and Ron Darling are right on the money, too!..|

Wright, Murph, Travis, Ike Davis... they're all competitive and it's in their natures to play hard, to want to be out there. Mets however got some tough news when it turned out Ruben Tejada had suffered a broken shin bone and will indeed be out the rest of the season after while making a catch stumbling over Andrew Brown's legs and falling over. While getting up on his own power he was taken for precautionary treatment and the fracture was discovered. When I heard Terry Collins announcing it officially after the game at first I thought he was engaging in some dark humor after all the other Met injury woes but he was dead serious, and sad about it. Ruben had been so promising the last couple of years the way he started the season not in the best of shape, looking ragged defensively and overmatched offensively he has to still prove a lot to have a viable future with this club. Fairly so, to be said.... but he will have to wait until next season opens and be ready from the opening of the gate to be the Ruben Tejada we could trust would do more than hold his own in the post Jose Reyes era.

Great Mets win tonight, a four run comeback in the ninth against the San Francisco Giants and stud closer Sergio Romo resulting in a rousing 5-4 win at CitiField. Keyed by a San Francisco bullpen collapse started off with several walks most impressively a very patient at bat against Romo by Matt den Dekker...Zack Lutz delivered an RBI double down the left field line, new catcher Juan Centano (replacing Tavis d'Arnaud for the next couple of days)had his second hit driving in another run with a looping liner over shortstop. Josh Satin who earlier had an RBI hit lashed the game winner a solid liner to left field scoring two including pinch runner Anthony Recker for the winning run. Josh promptly got pied by the master, Justin Turner this time working solo!;) Mets really approached Romo well and Josh said he was ready for, though not necessarily expecting, a fastball after Romo had thrown him four straight sliders. Everyone in the booth seemed impressed by the resilience and never quit attitude of this club which has been so decimated in recent weeks. It's a real feel good win, so many younger guys and a few veterans like Murph who really want to go into the offseason on a positive note. I respect so much our boys won't quit...they still have nights they're overmatched and they do still make mistakes... yet this club has a heart and soul and it's a credit to the players as well as Terry Collins and his coaching staff. Mets relief was excellent going four innings after a mixed effort by Aaron Harang, who allowed four runs in five innings but had eight strikeouts as well.

Big night in Philly DWright returns to the lineup batting third Murphy moves back to batting second
No Justin Turner yet but will be soon. And yes he only served as a decoy last night in the ninth he was not going to actually bat. Too bad cause had Recker gotten on who better to come up to the plate in that situation than JT

Lineup tonight Young, Murphy, Wright, Satin, Brown, Lagares, d’Arnaud, Quintanilla, Dice-K on the mound

So DWright returns after a month a half from the hamstring injury and promptly(second pitch he sees) slams a two run homer to the opposite field in Philly off of Cole Hamels... Terry Collins said to David doing something like that cold off the bat, with no minor league rehab as their seasons have ended, "The game isn't supposed to be THIS easy" in admiration. Mets win 6-4 as Dice-K pitches fairly well in six innings, allowing four runs having one bad inning in the fourth... relief was excellent and LaTroy Hawins again pitches impressively closing out the game for his 11th save in place of the injured Bobby Parnell. What is amazing about La Troy is that he is 41, reaching 95 pretty effortlessly still on the radar gun and getting people out. Keeps in great shape and after a pretty bad first half he has been wonderful and definitely merits a return next year if they can work things out.

Daniel Murphy had three hits and an RBI, and scoring three runs and Andrew Brown drove in an add on run with a bloop single to right. Eric Young Jr. also had a couple of hits driving in and scored a run. Juan Lagares made a sensational running catch in center late in support of La Troy Hawkins showing off his amazing range and timing. Great to see though DWright coming back so explosively with that quick home run and he also added another hit, going 2-5 in his return. DWright heard from some people he shouldn't try to come back and play only for a week or so and risk re-injuring the hamstring but that's just NOT David. He just loves to play and be out there with the boys and this is why he is the Captain, because he really cares about the game and loves his teammates.

Back from my football weekend gotta catch up on that sweep of the Phillies, drop in later.
hope ya all had a great weekend.
Just wanted to share theses pics before they explode all over the sports internet. It was rookie hazing time again and this year LaTroy Hawkins took over the hosting and put Zack Wheeler in a wedding dress and other rookies like Vic Black, Wilfredo Tovar, Gonzalez Germen and Matt den Dekker in bridesmaids gowns.
My personal favorite has to be den Decker
Even the plane was decorated Nice job LaTroy one of the best rookie hazing ever

Oh my god, Sonny this year's was great!!!!!!! Rookie hazing is always a blast but La Troy went beyond the call of duty thinking up this one... and Zach Wheeler makes for a really tall yet stunning bride! Love Matt den Dekker and the other "bridesmaids"... love that they looked like they were having so much fun doing this and really must have been razzed good by the guys!

Great weekend in Philly, including the rain shortened game on Saturday night with Dillon Gee (who was a bit off but still held up solid through his six innings pitched)and the solid effort by Carlos Torres on Sunday. David Wright also hit his second homer in two days on Saturday after coming back from the hamstring injury on Friday after over six weeks and promptly hitting a home run during his first at bat while adding another. Rookies Juan Lagares and Wilfredo Tovar drove in runs Sunday.

Last night didn't go as well in Cincy as the Mets lost 3-2 in the 10th inning. Six solid innings though by Aaron Harang and the Mets offensive highlight was a solo homer and RBI sacrifice fly by Lucas Duda, his 15th.

Justin Turner feeling great and ready to play he will return today and cover 3rd and bat second, Murphy moves to the three spot again with David Wright taking the day off. Go get em JT

Playing spoiler last night in preventing Cincinnati to claim the NL Central title outright last night, Mets prevail 4-2 led by rookie Wilfredo Tovar's run scoring single in the fourth, and topped off with a three run homer later that inning by the scorching Daniel Murphy, his career high 13th to go along with 76 RBI. Jon Niese got hit around some in the first giving up several hits early but was really helped by a terrific throw home by centerfielder Juan Lagares getting his 13th outfield assist(tops ever among Met rookie outfielders) as Travis d'Arnaud perfectly blocked the plate. Beautiful, on line throw by Lagares who not only can show great range but throws very well, and especially quite accurately. After that, Niese settled down beautifully and got stronger as the game went on. In seven innings Niese allowed eight hits, just one walk and struck out six as he continues to recover very nicely from the rotator cuff partial tear scare. He lowered his ERA to 3.74 and evened his record at 8-8, and later both he and Terry Collins both talked about the probability he would close the season on Sunday, they'll talk in a day or two and see how he feels but Niese really appears to want to give the Mets five or six innings and get chance at a winning record. He says if he feels good like last night no way he wouldn't want to pitch the season closer on Sunday, back at CitiField.

Mets and Reds close the series this afternoon, then the final four game homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers. Hopefully finish strong and provide a positive way to end the season, as this winter should be very important in structuring the Mets for a serious future contention push. No real news on Matt Harvey and his elbow yet, as it's still early in the healing process and the Mets and Harvey should know by November if the attempt to let the ligament heal on its own and just require a strengthening therapy program or Matt indeed will require the Tommy John surgery that would keep him out for basically all of next year. Good to see that JT is back today sonny, and that he's feeling well enough to play... ther's only so much pie throwing mischief one can come up with without going stir crazy on the bench!;)

Well, the Metties have won 5 0f 6, continuing to play hard for Terry Collins, and show some talent. The Mets have received some good pitching from Jon Niese, Dice K, Vic Black, and LaTroy Hawkins, among others, and the lineup has produced enough runs to get some wins. It certainly helps having DWright back in the lineup. Props to Daniel Murphy, who has put together a very fine season playing in over 150 games, and counting. He has been a steady force at bat, and played effectively in the field. Would love to see a big finish at home, since the boys finished at 41-40 on the road, pretty amazing for this team. Let's go Mets!!

Great effort by Dice-K and the pen working on a 1-0 shutout by the Mets over the Reds and like syam said it's now five out of the last six, and the final season homestand will start today against the Brewers. Hope we can keep this positive ending note going on and at least our fans can see the boys giving it their all and giving us a lot of good things to think about going into the offseason. Let's go, Mets!!!

Tough loss Friday as the Mets were downed by the Brewers at Citi Field 4-2. Carlos Torres took the loss despite pitching fairly well as Yovani Gallardo was just a little better. Torres allowed three runs on four hits while walking only one and striking out seven. He was roughed up in the first by two home runs scoring three early Brewer runs, and Scott Atchison gave up a homer in the seventh as the recent bugaboo of Mets pitchers allowing the long ball continued. Hitting star for the Mets were Justin Turner with two hits scoring and knocking in a run and Lucas Duda with two hits scoring a run. Disappointing so far losing the first two games of the closing season series but two games to go. Let's go Mets!!!
