Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benediction

Re: Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benedic

Sharpton and Jackson are ahead of their times! I guess when being bigoted towards gays is less acceptable, maybe more churches will practice Jesus' love.

I can see why you think they're bigots.

I just think they're leeches. I think they're indifferent towards whites.

I didn't deny the abolitionists. I just remember distinctively 200 years of slavery started by the puritans.

There are always outliers my friend.

Mormons get their shit for their revelations (like allowing blacks into priesthood right before they were going to lose their tax exempt status).

Christianity has been opportunistic too. That was my point and I think Sharpton and Jackson are torn from the same cloth.

I personally don't think Jackson or Sharpton care about blacks or gays or any other minority group. They're in it for themselves.

Ahead of their times?
No, they're behind their times -- their times to keel over and relieve us all of their pain.

They're also leeches -- bigoted leeches who play on bigotry, to get attention.

Um... I thought the Puritans rejected slavery, at least at first -- it was the Church of England types who embraced it.
Even in Newton's time, "nonconformists" in England, often Puritans, were condemning slavery.

If it really works this way, my fond hope is that when those two reach the Pearly Gates, St. Peter will look at them, and say, "Forty times ten thousand times ten thousand years in Purgatory for you. Then you'll be up for parole".

:p

Me thinks the Chosen One just likes to sit on the fence and likes to flow in the breeze.

" Hummm what should I do when the light shines down on me ? Ya that's it ! Get two ministers of opposing views of Gays & let then both speak the word of GOD."

(btw a parade is being given me. WTF I will let the GLBT have a float in it just 'cuz I might need that voting block some time also)Are the Mexican Nationals in the Parade ?

No, Your Iowaness, Mr. Obama has read a lot of history; Abe Lincoln, Founding Fathers, FDR, Truman, JFK, MLK, Frederick Douglass, all that kind of stuff. He's actually inspired by that.
He knows about Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, too.

Re: Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benedic

Obama was against prop 8.

Obama did not say he was against Prop 8 in any ads or during his rallies, which would have been especially helpful leading up to Election Day; he didn't make an effort to convince his supporters to vote against it.

At the same time, Rick Warren was very vocal about supporting Prop 8, strongly made public arguments to convince people to vote for it, and as part of his argument pointed out that Obama is opposed to same sex marriage -- without Obama ever saying a word to disavow Warren using his name to help get Prop 8 passed. And now Obama invites Warren to open the inauguration.

Re: Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benedic

Yeah this is a very douchey move on Obama's part.

Re: Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benedic

Goddamn, thank you!

:=D::=D::=D::=D::=D:

Frankly I'm sick and fucking tired of hearing all these outrageous comparisons that are truly apples and oranges. There's got to be a better way to get your point across than comparing one sorta bad thing to an extremely bad thing.

Warren isn't getting any invites to my Xmas party any time soon but I sure as hell won't go into convulsions if we walk down the same street, and I'd venture a guess that he's not going to toss me into a gas chamber.

I'm starting to get use to the dramatics, but it's still frivolous and annoying.

I guess sometimes we forget that gays (YES GAYS) can be as vicious, vindictive and intolerant as those on the far right.

Dang -- he sounded very much like Warren in one of the clips above!

So... we have two preachers who've said that they support full rights for gays, including in unions/partnerships, on the platform at the inauguration. That's a bit more than Obama's said, but it doesn't contradict his words.

So... now what's the message?

Proponents of Gay marriage .... get back in your closets and don't come out until you're called. :(

Re: Obama picks PRO Gaymarriage clergy for benedic

Let freedom ring---full separation of church and state NOW.

You think that's what Obama is saying with this?
I'm kind of hoping it's a subtle message that he's going to work on the civil union thing. Maybe he could get it attached to, say, a bill providing more money for the troops in Afghanistan.

Proponents of Gay marriage .... get back in your closets and don't come out until you're called. :(

If he's going on that note, I'd say it's more, "You'll never have gay marriage, but we're going to get you civil unions."

At least I hope it is....

Who's the "we" in that scenario?

You don't seriously believe Obama's going to lift a finger to get us civil unions with equal benefits and responsibilities as marriage?
