Obama to Netanyahu. Drop dead!

The polls are interesting. In a few battleground states, Nate Silver has lowered Obama's chance of winning the state, though in all cases it's still heavy for Obama. But in others, Obama's lead has become so huge his probability of winning is given as in the 90%+ range.

Three key states are now heading into the presidents column. Ohio, Florida, and Michigan.

Romney can't win, has no path to victory without either Ohio or Florida.

It is looking interesting, but OBama appears to be solidifying a strong lead in several states. He now needs to switch his focus to Florida, Virginia and Ohio... in Ohio and Florida he has leads... Virginia is more narrow. To me it looks like the President is securing states and convincing voters to support him. Still no room for complacency.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - Florida: Romney vs. Obama - NBC has him 5% ahead in Florida.
RealClearPolitics - Election 2012 - Ohio: Romney vs. Obama - And 7% ahead in Ohio.

The voter supression still persists. The democrats need to get to the polls in record numbers to overcome the GOP governors' tampering.

No problem with record number of people voting -- just keep it legal.

China is our closest ally - C-SPAN Video Library

This video is a clip in which Obama states that Romney is not ready for dealing with China when Even a goodwill trip to England, can be turned into an incident that Sec Clinton has to smooth over as our head ambassador.

Now This is what I understand about the way you have acted here, Jack.

A... you either willingly took something out of context to prove a point

or

B... You are unable to see the statement for what it obviously is, that someone else editted it and you repeated it unknowingly, without any research into it's context again. This is Shirley Sherrod all over again. Remember that one? You swore that the video meant she was a racist, when in truth, if you had viewed the entire video, in context, as other here had, you would have seen that the GOP plays games. It's hard to tell who is a willing participant, and who is an unfortunate, ill informed person.

Since I think rather highly of your intellectual skills, that leads me to conclude that you knew that this was not on the up and up.

I guarantee you, the video presented here does not match your description of it. Either

  • you did not watch it and trusted that what someone else said about it was true,
  • you watched it and misunderstood it,
  • or you watched it, understood it, and misrepresented it here.

What about that can be misconstrued?

I would love for you to tell me which one of those options is happening.

One implies dishonesty, and if I have been harsh it was to get the attention of someone YOU know damned well I deeply respect and like as a person. I do not mean to insult you as a friend, I am startled as a friend that you would post that, and defend it.

What I'm startled at is your use of the term bald faced liar. You've had an opportunity to make the case that there was some deliberate deception on my part, which you have failed to do by virtue of the half dozen equivocations within your post.

The video doesn't use the word England or the UK, does it? Had he said "..our closest ally, the UK." You'd be dead right. And if you have evidence the clip has been edited in some way, I'd love to see it so that I can correct myself.

Until such time, I still believe I'm owed an apology for what you've said as you haven't made a case.

No, I really need to ask again - wasn't the mention of the fucking olympics a dead giveaway that he was talking about the UK? I mean, were they, or were they NOT in the UK, jackoroe?

For the frantic spin doctors on the right, this is all they have. Purposeful misinterpretation of what I found to be an incredibly clear statement. Really guys? I mean. C'mon. Really?

First the misinterpretation of 'You Didn't Build That' is the central theme to a hobbled and intellectually bankrupt Republican Campaign...and now this. Really?

Exactly

This is the whole movement's idea of a good campaign. To embrace lies, to do ANYTHING, give up ANY value just to win in november. It might just get through the american electorate who generally thinks all politicians are sleazeballs, if it ever led to anything.

Romney has no position other than to lie and damage the president. He will do anything to excite the ugliest of the underbelly of the GOP, and they, being dutiful hatemongers, will gladly peddle the lies with impunity.

But the lie remains at the heart, and once you spit in the well, the water is useless. This thread should have been stopped. The Original post does not add up. It effectively lowers the bar for JUB.

Congrats to JUB.

Israel closest ally? My ass.

Maybe Canada or maybe UK, but not Israel.

Israel has nukes. Let them fight their own battles.

And fuck Netanyahu too.

tell israel it can take a running jump, go into Iran and take the consequences, as usual, parasites and trouble.

I am far more pro-Israel than most of the regulars here but even I saw the clip as a shot at Mitt Romney's pre-Olympic declaration that the Brits may not be ready for the Olympics. That's the closest ally he meant. There isn't even room for "you didn't build that" type interpretations. He said that Romney wouldn't be ready for talks with Beijing if he couldn't even deal diplomatically by dissing our closest ally. The UK.

This exactly what Obama said: "YOU MIGHT NOT BE READY FOR DIPLOMACY WITH BEIJING IF YOU CANNOT VISIT THE OLYMPICS WITHOUT INSULTING OUR CLOSEST ALLY"

I don't hear Obama referring to China as an ally. It sounds like he's talking about Romney insulting the British on his UK visit.
I have to agree with Sausy (and other's) interpretation here.

If the interpretation was that China was "our closest ally", then did Obama refer to some mysteriously known visit by Romney to the Chinese Olympics 4 years ago? Or what amazing gaffe did he pull off about China that seems to be unreported until this thread?

The gaffe-tastic Mr. Romney - Salon.com
Thursday, Jul 26, 2012 04:45 PM

Maybe he was just trying to make up for his adviser hyping his “Anglo-Saxon heritage.” On Thursday, rather than displaying his affinity for the British, Mitt Romney insulted them by questioning the professionalism of their Olympics planning.

“It’s hard to know just how well it will turn out. There are a few things that were disconcerting,” he told NBC’s Brian Williams. “The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging.” The British press was unamused. The Telegraph’s website screamed: “Olympics: David Cameron rejects Mitt Romney’s suggestion Britain is not ready,” while The Times of London headlined the story “PM rebuffs Romney over readiness for Olympics.”

Mitt Romney embarrassed US with Olympics gaffe, says top Barack Obama adviser - Telegraph
"We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world," the British leader said. "Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."

Mr Gibbs said Mr Romney's decision to "stand in the country of our strongest ally," and question whether or not Britain was ready for the Olympics "does make you wonder whether or not he's ready to be commander-in-chief?"

If Romney had made visits to China to criticize its preparedness for her games back in 2008, it would be nice to see what insults he made then. From reading around, it seems Mr. Romney has trouble keeping his mouth shut when he can't say anything nice.

Obama is really unsure who our allies are. He suggested last week that egypt isn't an ally and the State Department and Jimmy Carter had to clean up his mess for him.

And what gaffe did Romney commit in the UK? Asking if they were prepared for the Olympics?

Let's go the video tapes on that, OK?

Here's London Mayor Boris Johnson having some difficulty with a zip line.

Clunking some innocent bystander with a pretty substantial bell and getting stuck on a zip line aren't exactly signs of preparedness, are they? It was actually a pretty good question.

JockBoy,there are substantial elements among liberals that are supportive of Israel. It's not liberals oppose Israel, conservatives love it. And it was founded CHIEFLY by secular Jews(Labor Party is the equivalent to European Social Democrats). It seems the more progressive elements on the left are fairly hostile towards Israel, at least a lot of its policies. Conservatives love for Israel is kind of suspicious, at least those who have unwavering, dogmatic pro-Israel views from a religious perspective... they still look upon Israel messianically, not because of a real appreciation of Jewishness.

1. Jews make up a significant and disproportionate segment of prominent American cultural figures, including 13 U.S. Senators, professors, lawyers, actors, musicians, and scientists.

2. Israel is the only developed country and democracy in the Middle East. It is a tool for the United States to exercise its influence in the region.

3. Sympathy for Israel draws on the country's aforementioned political and economic status, as well as deep cultural connection to Judeo-Christian heritage in the region, and fierce opposition stems from liberal reaction to conservative treatment of Israel's privileged status in U.S. foreign policy.

JockBoy -- one of the reasons evangelical Christians support Israel is their belief about millennialism -- which is not Biblical.

And what gaffe did Romney commit in the UK? Asking if they were prepared for the Olympics?

Whether YOU think he was right, wrong or full of applesauce is irrelevant. The British WERE insulted and this is undeniable. Are you now pretending that they weren't? Are you now trying to spin the comment as NOT being about the British? Unbelievable.

The title of this thread should be changed to NETANYAHU TO OBAMA: I STILL LIKE YOU BETTER THAN I LIKE ROMNEY!

Bibi has nowhere with this - Obama has him by the balls - ironic isn't it? ;)

Obama would rather shake his ass with Beyonce and Jay-Z or trade quips with David Letterman

It's more fun for sure

and unlike Bibi who would ask some tough questions, the other 3 will not

Pretty lame timing for campaigning but it's expensive to pay for david axelrod's rumpled suits and moustache scissors ;)

I will never understand America's obsession with Israel or the Jewish in general. I just don't get it. Religion is the obvious answer but, still, it's so inconsequential.

Guess Canada is chopped liver, eh? o.O

Well our friends in Canada are certainly closer than the UK, so you have a valid point.
