On-Topic Obama will not disclose college records ... what is he hiding?

The people in an uproar didn't answer my question. If a drug addict leaves their addiction and goes on a productive life... like my friend... should they still be arrested for prior bad acts (being drug usage)? Some people are way in over their head with this argument. They have no argument.

Who said anything about arrest? Your friend didn't get caught, but he still committed a felony. Again, it's great that he's gotten his life together.

I can't believe I'm even putting a toe in this one, but you can't, by definition, be called a felon unless you have been convicted of a felony.

And Kuli, I think you meant to write "it's only WRONG if you get caught" because saying "you're only in trouble if you get caught" is not Aladdin's morality, it's sort of a universal truth (Just sayin')

Not so. You can be a felon without having even been charged with anything. Bank robbers who haven't been caught are felons by virtue of having committed a crime rising to the level of a felony. Upon conviction, you become a convicted felon.

Errant nonsense. Actually he is an alleged, or to some, presumed, felon. But he is presumed innocent and cannot therefore be a felon in fact until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Forgetting the Constitution Jackoroe - so-o-o Republican of you.

Excuse me if I don't use the right terms, but if you commit a felony and never get caught before the statute of limitations runs out, are you still a felon?

But I fail to see the relevance of his college transcripts at all. I know from the leader of my country that Angela Merkel has a degree in quantum chemistry only because it is so unusual that a high ranking politician is not a lawyer or a teacher, and I don't care about her university records at all. Why do you need to see Obama's (or Romney's) college records?

I understand the need to see politicians financial records (as a tool to prevent bribery or insider trading mostly), but events 20 or 30 years ago that where not political in nature are should be a private matter. People have a right to privacy, even high ranking politicians.

And what counts is their opinion today, not some beliefs or actions that they regret now.

I mean our former foreign minister was a hard-core leftist and member of the "Proletarian Union for Terror and Destruction", who regularly clashed with the police in the 1960s and 1970s, there is even a photo of him attacking a police officer. Later in life he changed course a became the leader of the "realist wing" of the Green party, and became foreign minister. Attacking a police officer is obviously a serious incident which should not be kept secret, but the most people accuse Obama of is taking courses in Marxism... that is really unimportant.

Who cares if Obama ate dog or smoked pot, and who cares if Romney put his dog on his car or bullied a gay classmate. That is ancient history, why do people keep talking about these things instead of the economy, or illegal killings of Americans etc.? Is it really "one mistake in your life and you are out"? Where do you find the saints to man your political offices?

There's no allegation at all counselor. He admitted it. The facts are not in dispute. If you rape someone, and the police give chase, they may as a matter of law shoot and kill you under certain circumstances without benefit of a charge or trial. Isn't that correct? They are permitted to do so because you are what? Innocent until proven guilty? No, because you are a fleeing felon.

Perhaps you may care to advise our dear leader about the Constitutional rights of due process he violates with some frequency when he murders American citizens by means of drone attacks. Or is that OK because he's your guy?

They only have to be saints if they're the 'other guy'.

Democrats keep calling Romney a felon, falsly, but they give Hussein a pass on his drug use.

^^^^

... then start a thread about the incompetence of Obama and his inability to manage the economy and improve the atmosphere for job creation.

That is a great current issue.

... but I'm sure you'd rather talk about other things .... am I right GiancarloC?

If you want incompetence, look into the republican party and see how they are SABOTAGING the economy. The same people you support. Oh but I talk about the economy a lot in this forum and highlight how the republicans are trying to sabotage the economy for political gain.

The Republicans aren't incompetent -- they're quite good at sabotaging the economy.

Exigent circumstances call for exigent means. I have no problem with a vetted national security policy; any American within range of a drone attack may be considered a "fleeing suspect." Others lack Constitutional protection in my book.

I'm sorry but what? I didn't realize the President of the United States controlled the economy. What next? A 5 year plan? Are you secretly a socialist? ;)

Obama has done quite well... and there is no incompetence. If you want incompetence, look into the republican party and see how they are SABOTAGING the economy. The same people you support. Obama has done quite well with the economy... bringing it back on stable footing after one of the worst economic recessions in modern history (which started under a republican).

Good times ... huh.

Now Canadians are worth more than Americans for the first time.

I appreciate that you are supporting your guy ... but it's another thing to follow someone blindly.

I think you're smarter than that.

Oh yea because some drug usage decades ago (which can't be prosecute) is better then Romney presently committing tax evasion as we speak... and having off shore accounts... he's doing it as we speak Benvolio. Yet you need to focus on non-issues. It's all part of the right wing desperation.

He is not evading taxes, he is avoiding them. Evasion is illegal. Avoidance--arranging finances to minimize taxes as allowed by law--is not illegal.
