Geraldine Ferraro, (a Clinton supporter) talked to John Gibson about superdelegates and her concern that they were following popular trends instead sticking to their guns and supporting Hillary Clinton. This lady is mentally deranged and insane. With Clinton supporters like this, it is the exact reason why I am supporting Barack Obama.

Face it, Ferraro. Barack Obama has worked his butt off getting to where he is. He out-organized her. He had better judgment on the issues than her. He managed his campaign finances and fund-raised better than her. He brought in better people than her. He better measured and spoke to the mood of the American people. He kept his campaign positive rather than low down and dirty. He did this without having a popular former President as a spouse and without the political establishment and machine behind him. If anyone is a fighter who has battled impossible odds over and over again, it is Barack Obama. What’s more, his hits didn’t make him bitter and negative, they made him more positive and better. Maybe Hillary could learn a thing or two from him.

She's right.

If Barack Obama were a white man with the exact same credentials, this primary wouldn't be playing out this way.

What's shocking isn't that it's true, but that almost nobody has the guts to say it out loud.

Yes I've noticed how upset Obama supporters get when the truth is spoken.

And if Mrs. Clinton's last name was Smith she wouldn't even be in the Senate let alone running for president.

Bingo! Just be careful, however, Nick might try to play the sexist card now. The race card doesn't seem to be working with most Democrats, except for the extremists and the bitter.

How does it take guts to say something that is a hypothetical. Truth is noone has any idea. If he weren't in the race, maybe Edwards(a white man, duh) connects more and is in the lead. Obama is the man he is partly BECAUSE he is a black man. What he dealt with helped mold him into the person he is today. To take that away from him is as ignorant as saying Clinton hasn't been molded in some experiences by being a woman.

She is stupid to make such a hypothetical when it comes to race. Same smarts as Clinton apparently.

You don't know that.

Hillary Clinton has always been someone who's ambitious and hard working and driven. There's no way to know what she'd have accomplished if she'd married someone else but it's clear she wasn't going to stay home baking cookies no matter what.

There was an old urban legend I liked. The story was a school friend who'd dated Bill met up with Hillary in the White House and said, "Gee if I'd married Bill I'd be First Lady today," to which Hillary replied, "No, if I'd married your husband he'd be President today."

Well Obama and his supporters are the ones playing it -- and in its way it's working.

Trouble is, once he kicks us Hillary supporters to the curb --and we're half the Democratic party-- if he gets to the general election, who's going to support him? Republicans who've refused to elect even one black representative to Congress?

I think playing this race card stuff is not only very chancy but also very short sighted. But we'll see. Maybe a big change will come over America this year. Never know.

You don't know that.

No he doesn't know that but neither do you about Obama.

LOL that's great.

Geraldine is correct in her reasoning, but the race is a non-issue as far as the delegates go. Why would a superdelegate, who faces re-election by popular vote of their chosen district, go against the majority? It behooves these people (governors, senators, representatives, etc) to vote in the direction of their represented state. I, personally, don't vote on a governor or senator that doesn't have my ideals at hand and for him/her to go against them would place him/her on the chopping block come next term. Geraldine, politics will be played as usual...survival of the fittest.

Is anyone denying that Obama's race is not a major part of his appeal or a major source of strength in the primaries?

What is hypocritical is the Obama campaign pretending that this is not true. If Obama was Fred Schwartz he would still be a community organizer in Chicago.

And if Mrs. Clinton's last name was Smith she wouldn't even be in the Senate let alone running for president.

Aside from the fact that this has nothing to do with what Ferraro said, the fact is that Clinton was a distinguished attorney and if she had been a male, there is no telling how successful she might have been.

Ok Nick if I don't know then you don't either do you?

I believe the last time New Yorkers elected a carpetbagger was Bobby Kennedy in 64 and I doubt he would have been elected if his name was Smith.

If you think her name has not been a huge help to her your something less than politically astute.

But by stating this hypothetical, what intelligently do you get from this? "oh, look at me, I am Iman and Nickcole and I can talk about OBVIOUS hypotheticals like they are facts and it makes me look smart." Why weren't you saying this 2 months ago? Oh, thats right because she had 1/2 of the black vote then. But then she blew it because she opened her mouth(well her and Bill) and showed how divisive they can be.

I didn't say her last name hasn't been a help.

I said you don't know what Hillary would have accomplished but the fact is she's always been very hard working and very driven and ambitious, and her accomplishments are impressive. Sure she was First Lady, but as First Lady she was the first to have an office in the West Wing and she was the first to run for the Senate. It's true she capitalizes on her opportunities -- but to assume she wouldn't have had other opportunities without marrying Bill Clinton, or that what she's accomplished has been handed to her because she's married to him is failing to give her her due. Everybody who succeeds capitalizes on their opportunities -- trying to diminish Hillary Clinton's bona fides because she's done that isn't reasonable.

As for Barack Obama, compare his experience, his credentials, his accomplishements to John Edwards who's just a few years older. Or any other candidate comparable to him including JFK. Obama's resume is so thin it's ridiculous.

But you're the one always playing the race card here at JUB. You and Lance and your ilk are the ones contributing to the the division in your own party.
