Occupy Wall Street

Petty shit.

... next video going into a McDonalds without shoes and a shirt demanding service.

You guys have to watch this video. A Marine embarrasses the NYPD for what they are doing.

The FDIC does not have enough money to cover any of the big four US banks if they fail.

And even if they did, you're neglecting the fact that Citibank has almost $2 trillion in liabilities.

Let's assume that's true.

That's grounds for busting up the bank. No entity should be permitted to be large enough that its failure would endanger the United States.

Red China now supports the protesters.

However, when protesters try to protest there -- guest what?

The replacement system (communism, socialism) that the protesters want to replace captialism, is a system where they would not be allowed to protest.

I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense to me.

Does it to you?

Not much makes sense to you Springer. You're sounding more and more like Glen Beck every day. Pull out the communist card.

I went to a Chinese restaurant the other day. According to you I'm a communist.

*sheesh*

Watch it guys, if you protest against corporate greed you're a communist according to Springer.

He was fine until he tried to run a seminar on complaints about banks. Coming in and speaking complaints about the bank is fine -- he's communicating directly to the bank, which is legitimate (especially if he's a customer), but turning it into a discussion forum is abuse. He's effectively taken over the property for his own purposes.

Even so, the cops shouldn't have arrested anyone but him; the rest should have just been escorted out and told they're banned from citibank property.

So was that footage of the location that had the arrest? If so they should have been arrested.

If that was the list of demands then ... um.... WTF. SOmeone twisted that women's arm and made her pay 120K to go to school? Really? And you all agree she shouldnt have to honor her debt?

So where was the compassion for the millions of homeowners who didn't wanna pay their debt?

Do any of you sincerely think that any college kid racked up those loans and has no idea what there debt will be at the end?

No one is claiming people shouldn't pay their debts.

We should just not through anarchy

Since when is cooperative action by individual citizens "anarchy"? There's nothing illegal about withdrawing your money.

And BTW, I've been advocating for twenty years for people to get their money out of the big banks and into credit unions.

my attitude was "omg, I got into an ivy league, obviously I have to go!!!11!"

and they had a pretty frank discussion with me about whether or not I really wanted to go into debt to the tune of $40,000/year for a liberal arts degree that isn't exactly setting me up to make a 6-figure income and in the end, convinced me that Big Name or not, I was better off going to the school offering me scholarships and financial aid.

and I'm pretty damn glad I listened to them... in most fields, it seems like it doesn't matter a damn which college you went to versus the work/internship experience on your resume.

A financial aid officer at OSU advised students not to take on more total debt than their "median expected income" on graduation. So if they could expect to make $50k a year, they shouldn't take more than $50k in loans.

Several of the professional schools set up paid internship programs with area industries; engineering students I knew basically earned a term's cost in a summer internship, or a year's cost in a one-year internship.

We need some system like that. It was taking people six years to earn their engineering degrees, but they were coming out with less debt than their first year's income.

Come back from the fantasy world before you're stuck there, Jack.

"The protesters" aren't advocating replacing capitalism. They aren't advocating communism.

Of course China supports the protesters -- the protesters represent the best hope for them getting back the money they've loaned us.

Hell from what I am hearing I like this idea. I want my house for free and my car and I dont wanna pay my credit card... because ya know it seemed like a good idea at the time.

...as opposed to the current reality, which is you keep paying for that house which has been foreclosed upon by the bank and that car which has been repossessed another bank (neither bank of which would currently exist at all if you had not given them $ trillions in bailout money).

When the bank can't cover its obligations due to incompetence and deliberate malfeasance, the government pays for them.

When big companies can't cover their obligations due to incompetence and deliberate malfeasance, the government pays for them, too.

But when you can't cover your obligations because you lost your job through no fault of your own, you lose everything.

Because only rich people and big companies matter in America.

And it is the obligation of the poor and middle class to keep them rich and big forever, even as they rape us.

But when you can't cover your obligations because you lost your job through no fault of your own, you lose everything.

I've been told that there are bankruptcy laws that deal with this issue. :D

Doing exactly what to people? The video shows maybe a dozen cops standing around while a gentleman claiming to be a veteran, rants like a lunatic. If they were clubbing some little old lady, I'd be in total agreement with him. They weren't.

Nobody is doing anything to anybody other than keeping the peace in this video. That's what the NYPD was ordered to do. And if the raving lunatic is in fact a veteran, then he fully understands the concept of strict adherence to lawful orders and should respect the NYPD for doing their job and mind his own business.

If he feels someone is being treated inappropriately, there are venues available for him to make a complaint. Holding court in the middle of the street isn't one of those venues.

And then...

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms."

It gets thick around here, huh?

I guess you missed:

The women getting pepper sprayed.
The man getting run over by police then arrested for doing nothing.
The one guy getting punched by police and earing ripped out for no reason.

All of these, on video. Why is he ranting? Well, someone needs to speak up, before the attacks by police get worse.

My God jackoroe, do you really have to be so negative with everything I or anyone else says?
The Marine was talking about all the other brutality incidents
the NYPD has done to its citizens. You've seen it I'm sure. It has been all over this thread. It has been all over the media too.
I think it worked just fine. The cops were embarrassed I'm sure.

Exactly!!!! Thank you for speaking up also. (*8*)
