Occupy Wall Street

Clarification: I didn't realize when I posted earlier in this thread that this is a PRIVATE park. That means there are zero constitutional issues here. The protestors are there at the pleasure of the owners, not because of a right they have.

It is a private park that the owners are required to leave open to the public 24/7. In New York City, in order to get approval for very large building developments that will have a large impact on the public, developers are required to provide certain amenities, like creating parks on the property or other public space, renovating subway stations and keeping them clean, etc. This is one of those parks. When the developer built the building, a condition of its approval was to create a park that would be open to the public at all times.

Another interesting side note, Mayor Bloomberg's girlfriend is on the Board of Directors of the company that owns the park. Bloomberg is a scumbag.

This is more than likely why they postponed the cleanup.

So I guess this will take JB3 and others out of saying it is not unconstitutional.

Yesterday, the AFL-CIO put out a call to all its members unions to encourage their members to go to Zuccotti Park to prevent the city from evicting the occupiers. Russell Simmons also encouraged his twitter followers to go down there and accused the mayor of risking a violent confrontation. He also offered to personally pay for the clean-up.

People began going to the park last night. I think the mayor feared that there would be a violent confrontation that would further inflame the situation and, in all likelihood, bring more support for Occupy Wall Street. That's why they called it off.

In the above posts I posted a note that civil union lawyers got together and told Bloomberg and the owner that if they evicted OWS it would be unconstitutional without a court order. It is post 367

From whom are the invites suppose to come?

It's a facebook site created by Jo Val & Lou Is.
Lou is a cute latino and I don't know about Jo Val. But there is a lot of Hip Hop relating among them.
Oh Shit!

Don't try to spin this to adbusters. These kids who has formed this probably don't know who adbusters is.

From the way his post read, I would have to say that it looks like a facebook event.

If that is the case, the invites flow from people who have accepted the invitation.

I don't get it. !oops! It’s circular?

I got this in an email, for those who want to sign petitions this one looks good. Go to their facebook and sign up.

Yes, We Have a Permit to Occupy

U.S. Hypocrisy about Occupations

This morning, Occupy Wall Street protesters celebrated when New York authorities beat a last-minute retreat from clearing Liberty Plaza – as hundreds of labor and other activists rushed to defend the square.

But at the same time this morning, dozens of state troopers in riot gear cleared out Occupy Denver protests. In cities across the country, Occupy protesters have faced police violence, arrests and forcible removal.

The authorities say we don’t have the proper permits to occupy public spaces. Our permit to occupy is the First Amendment.
