Hello everyone! This is the first story I've written for public viewing, so thanks for taking the time to read it! (That is, if you continue to read the next post.:D )

The first chapter may be a little slow, but I hope you all like it so far and I promise the ball will get rolling much faster in the following chapters.

Please forgive my typos! I proof read, but I'm sure some things will slip.

I appreciate your feedback!!

* * * * CHAPTER ONE * * * *

“That’s the last one!” Dominick said as he slammed the trunk of the yellow sports car.

“Jesus! Tear my car apart why don’t you?!” Claire shouted back from the driver’s seat. He didn’t bother to explain that he was accustomed to applying more force to the trunk on his old clunker.

As he slid into the passenger seat, Claire was updating the GPS with the address to their hotel. It was their first road trip together and their first trip to Las Vegas since either of them was of legal drinking age.

“Let’s have a premature high five for the awesomeness to come. There’s a good chance this is the only part of the trip we’ll both remember!” Claire said as they shared a laugh. Dominick plugged in the iPod and started their Vegas Playlist. It was a carefully concocted series of songs to prep them for a week of partying like they’d never experienced before.

It was no surprise that the drive went by quickly. Although it was a solid eight hours, the music and gossip kept their minds off the distance. They arrived in Vegas around 10:00 p.m. and the city lights made their eyes widen with awe.

Claire was hanging up her clothes in the closet of their room in the Luxor hotel when she chuckled to herself.

“What are you giggling about over there?” Dominick inquired.

“I just think it’s funny that we’ve been planning this trip for six months and it just so happens that the soccer team is having their tournament here this same weekend. Small world, huh?” Claire explained. The soccer team she was referring to was a group of guys they drank with on a regular basis. Claire knew them better than Dominick, who she had just recently introduced to the group.

Dominick chuckled a little before replying. “No kidding. That’ll just make the trip even more fun!”

He couldn’t help but stare momentarily as Claire unpacked. He thought about how odd it was that just ten months ago they weren’t even on speaking terms and now they were sharing a trip to Vegas together. It wasn’t that they had any personal conflicts, but when two sisters fight, it’s no surprise that their kids lose touch as well. He was glad that the family drama had been laid to rest and they were now not only cousins, but practically best friends.

They spent the first two nights attending various night clubs with a few of the soccer players’ girlfriends. The guys were more interested in gambling, so they didn’t mind the separation. Claire and the other girls’ cleavage came in handy when it came to the long lines and cover charges, and Dominick was lucky enough to share the benefits. The nights flew by and the days were mostly spent sleeping off the hangovers.

On the third day of their trip, Claire and Dominick agreed to go to the final match of the soccer tournament to cheer on their friends. Claire was more of a sports fan than Dominick, so he waited for her to cheer or boo before following suit. The team ended up coming in second place, which was good enough to merit another night out drinking. Although in all honesty, that probably would have been the plan regardless. Everyone shipped back to their hotel rooms and changed into more formal clothes. Claire and Dominick caught a cab to the soccer team’s hotel to get a head start on drinking with everyone as the men finished showering and changing.

The last of them came out of the bathroom with a small towel wrapped around his waist. It was just big enough to cover the essential parts, but there was a large V-shaped gap that started below the man’s hand where the corners of the towel were joined. His lean thigh was completely exposed from the waist down, which caught Dominick’s eye. Derek’s light Latino skin tone could have been mistaken for a flawless tan. His dark hair, typically spiked up, was now dripping water down his back and chest. But his most notable feature, aside from his great physique, was his eyes. They were a vibrant grayish-hazel color that Dominick had never seen before.

However, the fact that Derek was the biggest, most arrogant douche-bag on the team was a turn-off. Plus, Claire (along with most of the other girls in their social circle) had a short-lived fling with him several months ago. The combination made Derek off limits for Dominick. Oh, and the whole heterosexual aspect definitely didn’t help.

The team piled into a line of cabs. Dominick rolled his eyes as he realized that Derek was climbing into the third seat of their cab. Maybe it was a slight hint of jealousy, or maybe he was just overprotective, but something about seeing Claire and Derek flirt annoyed the hell out of him.

“Remind me… What’s your name?” Derek asked, snapping Dominick out of his analysis of the situation.

“Dominick. And you are?”

“Derek. Sorry, I know we’ve bumped into each other at a few parties, but I’m horrible with names,” he said, stretching his arm across Claire to shake hands. The puzzled look on Claire’s face as they introduced themselves could have indicated that Dominick knew full well who Derek was. There had been many stories about him during their gossip sessions. He was a little embarrassed that the familiarity was a one-way road, though.

As the night (and alcohol consumption) progressed, the flirtation between Derek and Claire increased. They kept it in the cab for the most part because Derek had acquired a girlfriend a couple months before the trip and he knew one of his teammates’ girlfriends would rat him out in a heartbeat.

Derek, being infamous for his cockiness, was asking Claire to rate his attractiveness on a scale of one to ten. She quickly answered with a ten, which visibly pleased Derek. Then Derek turned to Dominick with the same question.

“Um… What??” Dominick replied, slightly dumbfounded. Since when did straight men care about their attractiveness level from a gay man’s perspective?

“On a scale of one to ten… How would you rate me on looks alone?” Derek repeated.

“Probably a seven,” Dominick lied. He agreed with Claire’s evaluation, but would rather walk out in front of a Greyhound Bus than boost Derek’s ego. Derek was shocked at the average rating. Lacking a legitimate explanation, Dominick simply shrugged and said “One girl’s treasure is another man’s trash, I suppose,” following the jab with a sarcastic smile.

“Ouch!” Derek replied, then quickly changed his focus back to Claire.

Things took an interesting twist later in the evening, though. Returning to another cab after their final bar trip of the night, Derek entered the cab and scooted to the middle seat. Confusion struck Claire and Dominick equally as they sat on either side of him. It wasn’t long until Derek drunkenly slipped a heavy arm around Dominick’s shoulders.

“I think that ‘seven’ was a lie,” he whispered slowly into Dominick’s ear, his face being much closer than necessary. Dominick could feel the heat from Derek’s breath on his ear, which was a major turn-on. When Derek started caressing the ear he wasn’t whispering into, Dominick had to adjust himself through his pants.

“And I think you’re drunk,” Dominick replied, trying to keep his voice level. He could practically feel the rage radiating off of Claire at this point. The whole situation was a little more awkward than Dominick was willing to deal with. The truth was that he wanted Derek badly, though.

The rest of the night, Derek’s attention never left Dominick. He made comments about having slept with Dominick’s entire circle of friends, claiming that he needed to “close the circle.” He also made a few perverse jokes about making his way up Claire and Dominick’s family tree. As the night progressed, Dominick and Claire were both escalating. Dominick was becoming more and more aroused at the situation, and Claire was becoming more and more pissed off and confused.

Dominick finally put his foot down when Derek asked them to stay the night in his hotel suite. He knew whoever ended up getting their way with Derek that night, there would be tension between the cousins. Plus, it wasn’t appropriate with Derek having a girlfriend back home. Dominick and Claire wished Derek a good night and caught a cab back to their room on the opposite side of the Strip.

By the time they pulled up to the Luxor, they were watching the sun rise. Dominick had a feeling that he’d be waking up to a serious conversation with Claire. They were both too tired to address anything before a few hours of sleep, though.

* * * * CHAPTER TWO * * * *

Luckily there was no “serious talk” between the cousins the next day. Claire had made subtle jabs about the fact that Derek was a player and a flirt. She said he just liked the attention and that he was trying to make her jealous by not paying attention to her. Dominick had to remind himself to keep his head on straight. He had already established that Derek was completely off limits sexually and romantically.

They were both curious and confused about the events of the previous night. Claire thought back to the time she had spent around Derek before they started sleeping together. There had been other gay men in the group before. None of the soccer players were homophobes, which surprised her. But nobody had ever shown interest in the previous gay men, either.

She gazed across the table at her cousin, noting her near-starvation as the smell of cooking bacon filled the buffet dining area. She sometimes had to remind herself that he was bisexual. Maybe that’s why Derek’s flirting… No, not flirting. Derek’s attention toward Dominick? Whatever she was going to call it, it was surely nothing. But it did shake her slightly.

Dominick had feminine personality characteristics at times, especially when he drank. But he wasn’t your standard twink. He was built more like a football player than a dancer. He stood several inches taller than her at about 5’10”. His hair was somewhere between light brown and dark blonde, depending on the lighting, and his bangs came down just above his blue eyes. She wondered if he was modeling his current hair style off of Chase Crawford.

Suddenly, she was really curious what it looked like when he was pursuing someone. He was, as far as she knew, a romantic atheist. He had a tendency to flirt with everyone in the room while drunk, but that was just his playful nature. She couldn’t remember him confessing an attraction to anyone and she didn’t know any of his previous sexual partners.

“Hangover?” Dominick interrupted.

“Actually, no! I was pacing myself better last night!” She replied, chuckling.

“This buffet is expensive as hell, but you can’t ask for better morning-after food!” Dominick finally said. He didn’t usually have to force a conversation between the two of them. He could tell there was something on her mind, though. And it wasn’t hard to guess what she was thinking about.

After breakfast, they packed their clothing and souvenirs and went downstairs to check out. Sobriety didn’t make the diagonal direction of the elevator much more tolerable. They always laughed at each other, as one or both of them inevitably almost tipped over every time it started moving.

“I had a lot of fun this weekend, Dom. Thanks for taking care of the hotel!” Claire surprised Dominick with a strong hug before they got in the car to return home.

* * * * CHAPTER THREE * * * *

Life resumed pretty normally after they returned home. Dominick was happy to have the rest of his girlfriends back. It wasn’t that he disliked men, but it was much easier for him to get along with females. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that his father had a part-time role in his upbringing and his mother and aunts picked up the slack. Or maybe it was gay thing. Either way, he had a testosterone overload in Vegas and it was time for a night out with the girls.

Claire pulled up to Dominick’s driveway and honked her horn. She was almost always the designated driver because she didn’t like drinking very often. Dominick quickly hopped out the front door and locked it behind him. He was in his usual jeans and polo combination. His wardrobe rarely varied. He didn’t wear anything extravagant, not even name brand jeans.

As Dominick approached the car he could see the outline of Lindsey in the front passenger seat, so he slid into the seat behind her.

“Dominick!!” she nearly shouted as she rotated in her seat to hug him. It had only been about a week since she had seen Dominick and Claire, but that’s a long time when your entire group of friends leaves for Vegas without you. Sometimes fun had to take a backseat when you’re single with a kid, though.

They arrived at one of the only gay bars in town and everyone but Claire had a spring to their step, excited to return to their weekend routine. Claire sluggishly exited the vehicle and forced a smile at her friends. Dominick wondered if she was still bothered by their last night in Vegas.

“What’s up your ass?” Lindsey questioned. She had such a way with words.

“Haha! Nothing, I just got tired all the sudden!” Claire replied.

“Well snap out of it, bitch! We have…” she paused to check the clock on her phone, “four hours of dancing to enjoy tonight!”

PJ’s was marketed as a gay bar, but in reality, there were probably just as many straight people there at any given time because it was one of the only bars in the area with a dance floor. Dominick wasn’t a fan of the gay scene, so it was a perfect balance for him. The girls loved it because the female-to-creeper ratio was much better here than the straight bars in town.

After the first round of drinks, Claire asked Lindsey to hold her glass so she could wait in line for the bathroom. When they offered to wait with her, she declined politely and stepped away from the dance floor. The corner of Dominick’s mouth pulled down into a slight frown as she disappeared. There was clearly tension between them.

“Ready, set, spill!” Lindsey shouted over the music.

“What?” Dominick replied, scrunching his forehead.

“What happened in Vegas? Why are you guys so awkward now??” she asked.

“Oh… That. It’s a long story.” Dominick tried to postpone the conversation. He knew there was no way to avoid having it altogether.

“Well that’s convenient because the line to the bathroom is also long. So we definitely have time.” Lindsey smiled slyly as she nudged his shoulder. She knew Claire was like a brick wall. She didn’t reveal anything she didn’t want to unless you were willing to rent a wrecking ball. Dominick, on the other hand, was pretty easy to persuade, especially with liquor as her sidekick.

Lindsey dragged Dominick off the dance floor to one of the tables in the corner. Prior to tonight, Dominick hadn’t even noticed there tables in the bar. She put her drink down and sipped on Claire’s, made a disgusted face, and returned to her drink. Dominick got straight to the point, explaining what had happened between him and Derek in Vegas. There were a few times throughout the story that Lindsey’s eyebrows jumped up in surprise.

“Wow, he’s totally into you, dude!” she finally concluded.

“Okay, you’re not helping here, Lindsey. I’ve been thinking about it more than I should as it is. There’s no need to put false ideas in my head. You, Claire, and pretty much every other female in the southern hemisphere have slept with him. He’s clearly not gay.” Dominick argued.

“Maybe not gay, but what straight guy caresses another guy’s ear? And why would he even care if you found him attractive unless he was interested??” she persuaded. She said exactly what he had been thinking, but he didn’t want to admit that.

“Well, I think I did a decent job of not reciprocating. Don’t get me wrong, I was pretty horned up by the whole thing. You know how I like straight guys. But I know Claire has more invested in him than she’ll ever admit. And it just wouldn’t be right.”

It was funny to him that Lindsey was technically Claire’s best friend, but he was able to confide in her much more than he could in Claire. It wasn’t that Claire wasn’t trustworthy. She just tended to come off a little judgmental at times. And there was no need to get her even more upset about the situation by confessing that it had ignited Dominick’s interest in Derek.

Claire returned from the bathroom and they finished their night on the dance floor. On the way home Lindsey’s phone vibrated.

“Ooh! After party at Derek’s house!” Lindsey exclaimed. Dominick cringed as the name left her mouth. What the hell was she thinking??

He was about to pretend he was too tired to party when Claire surprised him with a “Sounds good!” and made a sudden left turn at the intersection. Dominick’s stomach churned a little. This couldn’t end well.

They arrived at Derek’s parents’ house and barreled out of the car. Claire, being the only sober one, made it to the door first while Lindsey and Dominick stumbled in behind her. They stepped over a group of soccer players in front of the Xbox 360 and made their way to the back family room. Claire and Dominick were both surprised to see Taryn sitting on Derek’s lap as they entered the room. Had they forgotten she existed? Maybe.

Taryn’s eyes suddenly snapped to them and she stood up forcefully. She managed a nasty glare in each of their directions as she pulled Derek out of the room without a word. Apparently what happens in Vegas does not, in fact, stay in Vegas. She had always come off as a bitch, but now she was in bitch overdrive and there was only one explanation.

Taryn’s “best friend”, using the title loosely as they both stabbed each other in the back often, strode across the room. Luckily, she was very easy to get along with most of the time. She had a tendency to bring drama to the group, but she usually had good intentions.

“Soooooo… How was Vegas?” Jessica inquired with a cheesy grin.

“I’m sure you’ve already heard the details.” Claire rolled her eyes.

“Ehh. I heard you were all over Derek. Taryn didn’t even know you were going to be there; otherwise she would have gone, too. She’s forbidden him from speaking to any of you for the duration of their relationship.” Jessica explained. The three friends jumped at once to respond, but Lindsey won that battle.

“Wooooo!” she said in a mocking tone, shaking her hands in the air, “Forbidden, huh? That’s pretty intense! Let’s be honest here, though. Relationship? Derek? This won’t last long.”

“Besides, I was NOT all over him.” Claire added.

“And I’m going out on a limb here, but I probably won’t lose sleep if I don’t hear from either of them.” Dominick shrugged, half-laughing. He was actually curious if Derek would stop talking to them, though.

“It’s not like you did anything, Dom. Taryn just doesn’t like you because you’re gay. Plus, the fact that you’re friends with Claire and Lindsey doesn’t help.” Jessica blurted. He was surprised to hear that his role in the story had been omitted. He thought that would have been a more scandalous topic.

“Are you kidding me? What is this, 1954? I haven’t heard anything that homophobic since third grade. She can go to hell.” Dominick was clearly aggravated at the comment. It was these types of events that inspired him to avoid conversations about his sexual preferences with his previous social circles.

At that moment, Taryn and Derek reentered the room. Derek’s arm was around Taryn’s shoulder and he didn’t even let his eyes drift to the group as he walked by them. Apparently he would, in fact, be willing to completely ignore their existence per Taryn’s demands. Dominick shook his head in disgust.

It appeared that Dominick and Derek’s interaction in Vegas would be their first and their last.

* * * * CHAPTER FOUR * * * *

For the first few weeks after the incident at Derek’s parents’ house, the group was pretty riled up. There were several four letter words being attached to Derek and Taryn’s names. After that, though, everything returned to normal. They would occasionally bump into Derek and Taryn at parties, and Derek would continue to pretend they weren’t even there. But for the most part, Derek wasn’t involved in the social aspect of the soccer team anymore.

Dominick’s career hit quite a growth spurt. He was promoted twice and given a decent raise. This meant the group could do more of the things they loved (i.e. drink and travel). Dominick picked up the tab most of the time since Claire had been laid off and Lindsey had a child to support.

One of the soccer player’s girlfriends, Alyssa, joined the group. She was a bit of an airhead at times, but fun to be around regardless. She had been dating Brandon since a few weeks before the Vegas trip and their romance was progressing rapidly. Likewise, her friendship with the group also progressed pretty quickly, considering how long it had been since someone new had joined them.

After about four months, Dominick got a surprising text message.

Claire: Are you on Facebook right now??
Dominick: Nope. I’m at work. Why? What’s up?
Claire: Derek just changed his relationship status to “Single”.
Dominick: Wow. He was pretty whipped. She must have dumped him.
Claire: Apparently she got back together with one of her ex’s and kicked him out of the apartment.
Dominick: Couldn’t have happened to a better person. :)
Claire: I know, right? I wonder how long it will take for him to text me now that he’s single. Lol.

Dominick was curious, too. As angry as he was with Derek for ignoring them, he wondered how his new-found single lifestyle would impact their circle of friends. Claire and Lindsey had already argued over him briefly in the past. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to assume history would repeat itself.

That weekend, Claire and Meghan had a “girls only” party with some work friends. Dominick and Lindsey decided to go to happy hour without them, as it was their Saturday night tradition with the soccer team. Neither of them was surprised to see Derek at the table when they arrived.

He looked different. He wasn’t as baby-faced as Dominick had remembered. He had a patch of facial hair on his chin now and his face was more angular since their last encounter. He looked more like a man and less like a boy. But those eyes were still the same.

Derek looked up to catch Dominick’s stare. Dominick quickly shifted his gaze to Lindsey, who had apparently been talking since they walked in the door. He struggled to put the pieces together so he could form a legitimate response by the time she stopped talking.

Fortunately, she got distracted by the “hello’s” as they pulled a couple chairs out from the table.

“Hi, Dominick!” Derek shouted across the table cheerfully. It was clear that he had a few drinks already at that point. When Dominick didn’t respond, he continued to repeat the greeting until he finally got Dominick’s attention.

“What the hell? Are you making up for lost time now? Piss off!” Dominick sneered back. He believed in second chances for genuine friends. But if someone made a negative first impression and then screwed him over, what was the point?

“Yep, I am. Hi, Dominick!” he shouted again, standing from the table. Again, he continued to repeat himself, but this time he was walking around the table to where Dominick was sitting. He bent down over the back of Dominick’s chair and hugged him around his shoulders.

“Hi, Derek.” Dominick finally replied, lacking enthusiasm. Derek smiled at him and set a drink down in front of him, then turned and greeted Lindsey with a hug. The annoyance aside, Dominick had to admit two things: Derek’s cologne smelled incredibly good and he was a very good hugger. Both were pluses, he thought briefly. He interrupted the thought, shaking his head. He had to stay away from that mind frame.

Throughout the night, the team downed several drinks and continued socializing until the restaurant was closing. As Dominick and Lindsey stood, Derek asked who would be coming back to his parents’ house to continue the party. Lindsey eyed Dominick and volunteered them without waiting for Dominick’s approving nod.

Dominick inhaled deeply as they turned into Derek’s parents’ driveway. Somewhere deep down, he was actually excited to be spending time with Derek again. He was still annoyed at the situation, and nervous about Claire’s opinion on the matter. He decided to text her.

Dominick: How’s the party going? Guess who’s suddenly deciding to be social over here?
Claire: So far so good. Who? Derek?
Dominick: Good guess! I’m too annoyed to be friendly, though. If he thinks he can switch from douchebag to nice guy overnight, that’s fine. But that doesn’t mean I have to do the same.
Claire: I really don’t think it’s worth the headache. Just let it go and have fun. :)
Dominick: Guess so. I’ll talk to you more tomorrow. Text me when you make it home safely! Love you!
Claire: You do the same! Love you, too!

When Dominick and Lindsey came into the back family room, Dominick eyed the “Drunk Jenga” game sitting in the middle of table. That was the moment he knew this evening would be eventful. It turned out that only one other soccer player came to the house. The rest of them were holding a grudge for Derek’s behavior apparently. Steve wasn’t the type to get involved in the drama, though.

Derek brought several beers from the garage and passed them around the table.

“Oh, we grabbed some Smirnoff on the way. Thanks, though.” Lindsey said, pushing their beer cans back to him.

“Alright. Dominick first.” Derek said, nodding his head toward the Jenga tower. Dominick took a sip of his drink and reached out for the tower. He pulled a block that stated “Kiss the person to your left.” He and Lindsey giggled, then leaned in for a short kiss.

It was Lindsey’s turn next. Her block instructed her to send a dirty text to someone at the table. She sent a text to Dominick that read “Follow my lead tonight. We’ll have some fun. ;)” Dominick scrunched his forehead after reading it. Curiosity was killing him, and the alcohol had pretty much killed his inhibitions at this point. That could be a deadly combination.

Derek pulled the next tile. It told him to remove two articles of clothing. He quickly kicked off his shoes. Lindsey interjected before he could sit back down.

“Two shoes do NOT count as two articles of clothing!” she demanded.

“Fine!” Derek said, smirking as he removed his shirt. Dominick and Lindsey both bit their bottom lip at the sight.

Steve then drew a tile and decided not to follow its instructions. He was penalized with a shot of vodka, which he downed without any hesitation. It was Dominick’s turn again. His tile instructed him to ask the person across from him for a spanking. He approached Derek, turned around and bent over slightly, asking to be spanked. Derek didn’t hesitate to slap Dominick’s ass through his jeans. Even with the alcohol, Dominick felt the sting from the spank. He thanked Derek and returned to his place at the table.

“Ooh!” Lindsey exclaimed. She was getting more excited. “My turn!” She pulled another tile, almost knocking the tower over with her clumsiness. The tile gave her the option to switch seats with anyone at the table. She chose to switch seats with Dominick.

Derek pulled another tile and laughed. It was another “Remove two articles of clothing” tile. He removed his belt and jeans. Now he was standing only in his boxers, wearing a crooked baseball cap. Steve and Lindsey both passed on their turns, each taking another shot. Dominick blushed at his next tile.

“I’m not taking another shot, so if you decline this, the shot is for you.” He said, passing the tile Derek.

“Give a 30-second lap dance to the person on your left.” Derek read aloud, laughing. He hesitated for a moment then said, “I’m not doing any more shots.”
Derek stood up and moved from the tall chairs to the couch. Dominick followed, adjusting himself when nobody was looking so they wouldn’t notice he was starting to get hard just at the thought. Lindsey was practically jumping up and down. She had the remote to the TV in her hand and was locating a music channel. A devilish smile spread from ear to ear when “Shots” by LMFAO came through the speakers.

Dominick’s heart started racing as he cleared the distance between himself and Derek. He placed his hands on Derek’s thighs and dipped down to the floor between his legs. He continued gyrating and rolling his body, pressing Derek’s legs apart as he traveled upward slowly. He finally turned around and mounted Derek’s lap, facing away from him. He was so glad to be wearing jeans because his erection would have been much more obvious in a pair of sweats or shorts. Speaking of which, he was starting to feel Derek rise to the occasion below him. When he peaked over his shoulder, he noticed Derek’s jaw was clenched, and his grip on Dominick’s right hip and left shoulder were tightening. His whole body was trembling and he was starting to breathe heavy.

“Shit! I have to go pick up my brother from a party. He’s drunk again.” Steve interrupted awkwardly. Dominick quickly hopped off Derek’s lap and sat on the couch across from him.

“Are you okay to drive, man?” Derek asked.

“Yeah, I only had two shots tonight. I’m fine.” He reassured his friend, pulling his keys out of his pocket and leaving. Lindsey swayed her back so she could see when the front door closed behind him.

“Soooo…” Lindsey said, moving to where she could stand as the point of a triangle between Dominick and Derek. “Dominick and I have had this long-running rivalry in the oral department.” She blurted out. Derek cleared his throat, but didn’t say anything. “For some reason, he thinks he can out-perform me. So what do you say to being our test dummy?”

Derek sat for a while without responding. Dominick could still see his body shaking from across the couch. “You’re going to have to wait about a half hour between tests, if that’s cool.” He finally responded. This time, the devilish grin spread across both Lindsey and Dominick’s faces.

“We were actually thinking of something a little more simultaneous, if you catch my drift.” Lindsey explained.

“Nice. Just let me finish this beer first.” He replied more easily. It seemed like he was comfortable with the idea now.

A few minutes later, he had finished the beer and stood. He started walking back toward the hallway when Steve walked back in through front the door.

“He ended up getting a ride from our…… sister.” Steve explained. There was a pause when he noticed Derek was nearly naked and walking toward his bedroom with the other two. The four of them stopped and eyed each other nervously for what seemed like ten minutes.

“I was just going to bed, Steve. Lindsey and Dom are going to crash on the couches if you want to take the futon in the family room.” Derek lied, breaking the silence.

“Uhhh… Sure. Yeah, that sounds good.” Steve nodded. He was still assessing the situation and obviously suspicious of the other three.

“I’m really tired. I’m going to bed.” Derek said assertively to Lindsey and Dominick.

“But…” Lindsey started.

“I’m really tired.” Derek repeated and walked back to his room, closing the door behind him.

“Just leave it.” Dominick said to Lindsey.

“What the hell just happened??” Lindsey insisted.

“Let’s just go. Can you drive?” Dominick asked.

“Yeah. I only had one shot and a few sips of Smirnoff Ice. You can crash at my place tonight.” Lindsey assured him. With that, Lindsey jingled her keys and walked out the front door. Dominick sighed heavily and followed her to the car.

^ Agreed.

Derek seems like a bit of a douche at the moment. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's really like - is he actually a douche, or was he just under his girlfriend's thumb?

I actually thought that Dominick was kind of being a dick...

All flighty and "hot" then "cold"...

I mean, if a THIRD PARTY told me that an acquaintance of mine couldn't talk to me because his girlfriend forbade it, I would make it a POINT to go and TALK TO HIM!!!

But, I guess different people respond differently -- it'll be interesting to see what happens next!!!

:):):)

Sorry for the major delay! Got pretty tied up with the holidays and such.

I'll have an update ready for tomorrow afternoon!!

* * * * CHAPTER FIVE * * * *

Dominick woke on Sunday to a nasty combination of dehydration and guilt. He didn’t like making anyone feel uncomfortable for any reason, but when it came to his sexuality, he was even more sensitive to the subject. It’s not that he was ashamed of it, but he didn’t want to be one of those cliché gay men that made straight men feel the need to be cautious constantly. Then again, it was Lindsey that was forcing the situation. Ugh. He’d return to these thoughts after a full bottle of water and some breakfast.

When he checked the clock on his phone, he noticed the battery icon was flashing red and there was an unread text. Part of him wanted the text to be from Derek, but they hadn’t even exchanged numbers. It was actually a text from Claire confirming that she made it home safely last night.

Lindsey was in the kitchen cooking hash browns and bacon. She didn’t typically wake up so early on weekends, especially after a late night out. However, Dominick had a tendency to snore when he was drunk and she was a light sleeper ever since the baby was born.

“Good morning, sunshine!” Lindsey joked as Dominick rounded the corner. To be honest, he looked like hell. “I have to leave to pick up the baby from her father in about an hour. Do you want me to drop you off on the way or do you want to hang out here until I get back?”

“I should probably get home, actually. I need a warm shower and some Excedrin.” He grumbled. Lindsey just chuckled in lieu of responding.

As soon as Lindsey dropped Dominick off, he practically sprinted for the shower. After a brief towel dry, he slipped on some basketball shorts and fired up the computer. He went to Derek’s Facebook profile. It had been a while since his last visit to this page, since he was so fired up about the whole ordeal. With another sigh, he clicked the “Send Message” button at the top of Derek’s profile and began composing an apology.

“Hi Derek. I just wanted to apologize for crossing the line last night. I hope we didn’t make you too uncomfortable. See you around.”

Before letting himself think about it any longer, he hit the “Send” button and closed the window. He was about to text Claire when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

“Facebook Mobile. Derek sent you a message: ‘You didn’t make me uncomfortable. What are you doing tonight?”

Dominick’s heart sped up as he read the message. He immediately rushed back to the computer to respond.

Dominick: I’ll probably hit the gym and head over to Claire’s for a hot tub and movie night. You?
Derek: Not sure yet. I’ll probably just stay in. I feel like crap today.
Dominick: Yeah, I did when I woke up, too. Hope you feel better!

There was no response after that. Dominick scrunched his face after a few minutes. Should he have made it sound like he didn’t have anything planned? Was Derek thinking about making plans with him? Maybe he should have given him his phone number…

“Snap out of it!” Dominick commanded himself out loud. Here he was, stomach fluttering over this guy that, up until last night, wasn’t even willing to acknowledge he existed. What the hell was he thinking? First of all, the guy was straight. Secondly, he had a fling with Dominick’s cousin and best friend. Thirdly, he was an arrogant dickhead. There were so many things that took Derek out of the running. But that didn’t alter the fact that Dominick wanted him.

Claire ended up bailing on the hot tub plans that night. She and Alyssa got into a fight in the morning and she wasn’t in the mood for company. Dominick knew this also meant that he’d be getting a detailed account of the argument from Alyssa within the hour. Sure enough, she texted him shortly after explaining that she was supposed to be the designated driver that night and ended up drinking. He instantly knew just how angry Claire was.

Claire didn’t like to drink often, but when she was in the mood, she was in the mood. Dominick knew as soon as she saw Alyssa drinking at the party, Claire probably put her glass down right away and stayed just long enough to sober up and go home. He’d be surprised if Claire even told Alyssa she was leaving, and more shocked if she drove Alyssa home. It wasn’t the first time this happened, and Claire wasn’t the type to deal out chances repeatedly.

Dominick advised Alyssa to sit on it for three days, apologize via text or e-mail, and then pretend like nothing ever happened. This was Claire’s remedy to tough situations. She wasn’t the type to sit down and talk things out. She wouldn’t be the first to break a period of silence between friends, and she didn’t like hearing about something that angered her after it was swept under the rug.

Fortunately, Dominick’s night would not be spent alone. He had his own apartment at one point, but with the economy going haywire, his mother’s hours had been dropped from full time to part time. She needed help with rent and Dominick was tired of having an empty apartment to himself, so he moved back home. Dominick’s little brother wasn’t handling his absence very well, either. It seemed to be the right decision for the whole family.

That night, Dominick’s mother picked up Chinese food for dinner and stopped by the dollar movie rental box to grab some romantic comedy that just came out on DVD. As they were watching the movie and dining in the living room, Dominick glanced over at his laptop. It was resting on the arm of the couch with Facebook open. It could be argued that he was a social media addict.

He nearly flew to the keyboard when Derek’s chat message popped up.

Derek: No hot tub, huh?
Dominick: Nah. Just staying in and renting a movie.
Derek: Fun. Who ya with?
Dominick: My mom and brother. Fun party. Haha.
Derek: Sounds like it. I’m pretty bored.

The two continued small-talking throughout the duration of the movie Dominick’s mother was now watching alone. She glanced over a few times, curious who he was so excited to be talking to. It had been a long time since she saw that excitement in him. Although she should probably be happy that he was happy, nervousness came instead.

Before they knew it, three hours had passed. Dominick’s family had gone to bed already and the only noise in the house was his tapping at the keyboard. Dominick hated to do it, but he had to end the conversation so he could get to bed. It was a work night after all.

Dominick: Well it was nice talking to you, but I should hit the hay. I have work in the morning.
Derek: What do you do?
Dominick: I’m a marketing coordinator. I track leads and collect information for the sales team to use to acquire new clients.
Derek: Interesting. Well I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight!

Dominick stared at the last response for a good ten seconds before saying “Goodnight” back to Derek. He couldn’t believe what was happening. Was Derek actually enjoying their conversation, too? Dominick had assumed it was a last resort, a thoughtless act of desperation to remedy Derek’s boredom. He closed his eyes and shook his head again, thinking he was acting like a fourth grader. Derek was just bored. He assured himself that was the only cause for the conversation. Dominick wasn't trying to be negative, but he knew from the stories that Derek was not the guy to let his guard down around.
