* * * * CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE * * * *

“How was your day at work?” Dominick asked as Derek shuffled in through the garage door. A cool breeze followed him into the house.

“Not sure. Interesting, I guess you could say.” Derek answered.

“Oh? That doesn’t sound good. What’s going on?”

“Well I’ve been working out of the headquarters office for a while until they could place me in a branch office. I found out today that they’re placing me at the same branch as Gina.” Derek explained hesitantly.

“Oh… And is that good or bad?” Dominick asked, knowing his personal opinion on the matter instantly.

“I haven’t decided yet. What do you think?”

“Uhhh… I don’t know.” Dominick evaded.

“No, I really wanna know what you think! C’mon!” Derek pushed.

“Well… Sexual Harassment is HUGE issue these days. So my primary concern is that you and her have an understanding that your relationship- “

“We’re not in a relationship!” Derek interrupted.

“You know what I mean. Anyway, that your ‘extracurricular activities’ show no presence in the office.” Dominick explained.

“I know that, but it’s not like she’d file a sexual harassment complaint against me!” Derek protested.

“It’s not her I’m concerned about. It’s your other coworkers. If your interactions make other people in the workplace uncomfortable, they can file complaints, too. And that’s not something your corporate office can just turn their heads away from.” Dominick clarified.

“I should probably just cut things off with Gina…” Derek realized aloud.

“I wasn’t going to say it first, but I agree. There are plenty of women out there that can fulfill the same role in your life without posing a risk to your career. Of course, I’m clearly biased, so…”

Derek just laughed before changing the subject.

“So how was your day? Any bites on a job?” Derek asked.

“Actually I have an interview with a small marketing company in the next suburb over tomorrow. Should be interesting.” Dominick smiled.

“Awesome! Good luck!” Derek encouraged. “Where’s Amber?”

“She’s watching a movie in my room.” Dominick answered.

Derek started heading up the stairs to greet his daughter.

“Did you eat yet?” Dominick asked before he reached the top step.

“Nope. I’m starving!” Derek replied, rubbing his stomach.

“How does pizza sound?”

“Great! “

Derek continued upstairs as Dominick preheated the oven. It was obvious when he entered Dominick’s room because he was greeted loudly by Amber.

After dinner, Derek and Dominick retreated back upstairs.

“I rented Shutter Island on the way home. I know you said you hadn’t seen it yet!” Derek smiled, waving a DVD case in front of him like a paper fan.

“Ooh I’ve wanted to see that since it was in theaters!” Dominick replied, following Derek into his room.

Dominick noticed that Derek’s bed wasn’t as comfortable his. He had an older spring mattress, whereas Dominick had been spoiled with a memory foam bed that was practically orgasmic.

Derek turned out the lights and climbed into bed next to Dominick. Their feet were against the headboard while the movie played, so the blankets weren't exactly accessible.

Half way through the movie, Dominick started laying on top of his arms and crossing his legs to try to keep warm. Of course since Derek could sense all other changes in Dom’s moods, he’d also notice when he was uncomfortably cold. He hopped off the bed and grabbed an extra blanket from the chair next to the TV.

“This is the most comfortable blanket I’ve ever felt!” Derek said while throwing it over Dominick’s back and legs. It was true. The blanket was extremely soft and warm.

In fact, the blanket might have been a little too soft and warm. It wasn’t long before Dominick was fighting off heavy eyelids. Just as they almost won the battle, Derek reached under the blanket and gave the side of Dominick’s ribs a light slap. Dominick jolted awake.

“You’re fallin’ asleep on me!” Derek laughed.

“True story.” Dominick answered in a half-awake voice.

“Do I need to wake you up?” Derek asked playfully.

“You can try!” Dominick tried to continue his sleepy tone. But as soon as Derek got playful, his blood started pumping and he was wide awake.

Derek reached under the blanket and pinched Dominick’s left nipple.

“Hmm. Not doing it. Goodnight!” Dominick yawned and started to roll from his stomach to his side, facing away from Derek.

Derek quickly rolled him the rest of the way over onto his back. He hopped up to his knees, pressed Dominick’s hands above his head like before, and resumed the pinching while straddling Dominick’s torso. Dominick pretended to snore in response.

Derek finally put his pinching hand back up on Dominick’s wrist and stared down into his eyes for a moment. There was a look he made that drove Dominick wild. He squinted his eyes slightly, put on a devilish smile, and pushed his jaw out like a bulldog. That was the look that always preceded a boost in the physical contact category.

Sure enough, Derek was bringing out the big guns tonight. He lowered his head to Dominick’s chest and bit his nipple just hard enough to make his whole body tense up. Dominick let out a surprised moan and tried to focus on controlling the sudden feeling of tightness in his pants.

Derek resumed his eye contact for a moment, and then went for the other nipple. He bit slightly harder this time, causing Dominick’s lower back to arch and his hips to push against Derek’s.

“Okay! I’m awake! I’m awake!!” Dominick pleaded.

“That’s what I thought!” Derek said play-aggressively as he rolled off and repositioned himself to watch the movie.

Dominick stared at him for a moment trying to decide if he should return the favor. As soon as Derek looked away from the TV and made eye contact, Dominick pounced.

He grabbed Derek by the forearms and separated them long enough to plant his face in the middle of his chest. He bit gently right above Derek’s left nipple. Derek wasn’t wearing a shirt, though, so it felt a little more erotic than it had when he was receiving the bites. Derek’s skin tasted salty-sweet and there was a mild scent of his cologne drifting down from his neck.

“Aw, yeah.” Derek moaned. Dominick couldn’t tell if he was joking or really getting into it. He took a moment to observe Derek’s facial expression before switching nipples. Derek still had the same devilish bulldog expression.

As Dominick bit the other side of Derek’s chest, he lost his grip on Derek’s arm. Derek quickly intertwined his fingers in the back of Dominick’s hair and made a fist. Derek knew that was one of his biggest turn-ons. He had even shown Derek the difference between hair-pulling “the mean way” and “the nice way”.

“Cut it out up there!!” Aunt Cindy shouted from the base of the stairs.

“Way to go!” Derek teased as he shoved Dominick off.

Dominick was so mortified that they had disturbed Cindy’s sleep that he cowered under the blanket and quickly dropped his head to the pillow with his eyes closed. It was as if he was a mischievous child that had almost been caught sneaking out of the house.

Derek found his way under the blanket and Dominick fell asleep within seconds of feeling his warmth. Memory foam or not, Derek’s bed was suddenly the most comfortable place in the world.

PS: Sorry for the blue balls again!

I hope I'm not dragging this out to the point that it's getting boring! I'm just trying to capture a more realistic account of the cautious cat-and-mouse games that I'm sure we've all experienced at one point or another.

I promise it'll be worth it in the long run! ;)

I think it's about time for Dom's turn to have a little side action too. I want to see Derek's reaction. >_>

Awsome chapter caint wait for the next one. And as to ur question in no way shape or form could this story ever be boring.

I think it's time for aunt Cindy to take a vacation even if it is her house](*,)

god damn it... i just read all the chapters and it is sooo good! Thank you for continuing to write! This story is addictive haha, now that i am fully up to date its like i need to know what happens!

Thanks for the awesome story! =D

ugh the sexual tension is killing me...... great story though.... but really derek needs to wake up

Actually, I love the cliffhangers! Well, not love, but abide them....lol
First off, I am extremely happy that Gina will be out of the picture (as will Dominick) but I wonder about this interview Dominick has. “Actually I have an interview with a small marketing company in the next suburb over tomorrow. Should be interesting.” Dominick smiled. Could this mean he might be moving to the suburbs? That's one way of getting rid of Aunt Cindy since she won't take a vacation as Sheep suggests.
Also, if Derek were to get a back problems because of the awful mattress, he would have to sleep with Dominick again. Yea! Whatever happens, this is an awesome story, SayWhat, and I can wait as long as it takes to get those two together....lol

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I'm glad to see you're hanging in there!!

* * * * CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO * * * *

“I don’t know… I don’t think it’s a good idea.” Dominick answered hesitantly.

“I won’t leave you to fend for yourself, Dom!” Derek pleaded.

“That’s not my concern, Derek. I just think we can and SHOULD have separate friends. And Gina will definitely be one of those friends.” Dominick explained.

“So you’d rather sit at home alone than go to a party?” Derek pushed.

“I’d rather sit at home alone than go to THAT party, yes.” Dominick answered firmly.

“Please?” Derek insisted.

“I gotta go. I just got to the office for my interview. We’ll talk later, okay?” Dominick evaded.

“Fine. See you when I get home.” Derek said, hanging up the phone.

“Soooo… What would you do?” Dominick asked.

“It’s really hard to say, hun. I get where you’re coming from, but… Ugh. It’s just a
mess.” Valerie answered.

Dominick and Valerie were introduced by Dominick’s father about five years ago. They didn’t become close friends until Dominick joined his father’s company and they became coworkers. She was one of the few constants in Dominick’s friend list.

Not only was she unbiased when it came to Derek, but she was also the only person Dominick trusted with his confusion about their friendship. It wasn’t just a risk to admit that he had feelings for someone. He was also risking exposing details of Derek’s life that he wasn’t ready for people to know. Since Valerie wasn’t from the same social circle, Dominick thought it was safe to confide in her.

“What do you mean it’s a mess?” Dominick asked. He agreed, but he wanted her observations on record.

“I mean, if you can’t trust him to go out to a party together, what’s the point?” She clarified.

“Point of what?” Dominick was intrigued.

“The point of your relationship. Whether you’re friends or more, there has to be trust. For Christ’s sake, you abandoned your life and moved across the country with the guy. You obviously trust yourself with him on some degree.” Valarie answered.

“Good point. I just hate that he’s even asking me to do this. What the fuck?” Dominick vented.

“Well, hun. He’s male.” She laughed.

“Hey now!” Dominick joked.

“Err… Male and straight. Or not straight. Whatever he is. He’s just stupid, alright??” Valarie back peddled. They both shared a lengthy laugh.

“So I should go, then?” Dominick finally asked.

“Yep. I think so. If you never risk getting hurt by him again, you’ll also never give him the chance to prove he’s trustworthy.”

“Ooh he just walked in the door. I’ll call you tomorrow! Love ya!” Dominick spoke with a hushed tone.

“I’m home!” Derek shouted from the kitchen. “How’d your interview go?”

“It was alright!” Dominick answered from the top of the stairs.

“So you think you’ll get it?”

“I’m not sure. The owner of the company was really pushing for someone with a degree. Fingers crossed, though!” Dominick answered.

“Soooo… Given any thoughts to the party tonight?” Derek finally asked.

“Uh… Yeah. Yeah, I changed my mind. What time are we supposed to head over?” Dominick spoke with nervousness.

“Awesome. We’ll head over around ten, after Amber’s asleep.”

“I’ll probably drive separately, though.” Dominick clarified.

“What? Why?” Derek asked, shocked.

“Because I don’t like spending the night at strangers’ houses and I’m sure you’ll want to spend the night with Gina. It’s not a big deal, really.”

“Not a big deal? You hate driving!” Derek replied.

“Yeah…”

“We won’t spend the night, okay? That wasn’t even the plan!” Derek insisted.

“It’s fine, Derek. Really! I don’t mind driving myself tonight!” Dominick tried to sound like there wasn’t any negativity behind the idea.

“Why?” Derek pushed.

“Because…” Dominick paused as he realized there was no good reason.

“Because you don’t trust me.” Derek finished the sentence.

“It’s not that!” Dominick insisted, realizing Derek was right.

“I told you I wouldn’t leave you alone. I told you we wouldn’t spend the night. What else do you want to hear?” Derek asked.

“We’ve talked about this, Derek. Just because you tame a pet tiger doesn’t mean you should be putting your arm in its mouth. Ya know?” Dominick tried to explain. “Wait, that was a bad example. I meant-”

“Don’t worry about it.” Derek muttered.

Valerie’s voice was ringing in Dominick’s head. She was right. If Dominick didn’t trust Derek, this would become a wedge in their friendship.

“Never mind. We’ll ride together.” Dominick broke the silence. “But I’m serious
about not spending the night. If you want to spend the night, just tell me now so I can bring my car. I’ll drive separately.”

“Nope. No spending the night!” Derek confirmed.

“Okay. I’ll get ready, then!” Dominick smiled.

Gina, of course, was waiting outside when Derek and Dominick arrived at the party. Dominick couldn’t help but curl his lip a little at the sight of her.

“Hi, I’m Gina!” She smiled.

“Nice to meet you.” Dominick smiled back, shaking her hand. There was no use in stating his name. Derek had already warned her about him apparently.

“This is kinda funny. I feel like I have to make a good first impression if I want to stick around!” She laughed. Dominick laughed back, not sure how to respond to such an awkward statement.

“You do.” Dominick said under his breath.

The night progressed pretty easily after the drinks started flowing. Derek, Dominick, Gina, and her friend Melissa were playing cards and drinking steadily. Dominick was surprised that Gina’s friends were actually a fun group of people.

Hours later, the large group started dwindling and the music stopped. The party was essentially over.

“I’m getting pretty tired.” Dominick hinted.

“Yeah, me too.” Gina said, eyeing Derek.

“Me three.” Melissa said, yawning as she sprawled out on the love seat next to the couch.

“You about ready to go?” Dominick asked.

“Oh, you guys are more than welcome to stay here.” Gina offered.

“I appreciate the offer, but no thank you.” Dominick made an extra effort to avoid sounding bitchy.

“Awww. Please don’t go, Derek.” Gina whined, touching his thigh. Dominick’s blood started raging.

“I need to sober up before we go anywhere.” Derek explained.

“Okay.” Dominick answered. He wanted to be anywhere but there.

Gina sat back on the couch and crossed one of her legs over Derek’s. Dominick stood up and walked into the kitchen to get some water. He couldn’t just sit there and watch her fall all over Derek.

When he returned to the room, they were in the same position.

“Why don’t you lay on the couch?” Derek suggested.

“Because I’d rather lay in my bed.” Dominick answered.

“Just take a little nap!” Derek insisted.

“Derek, no. We talked about this. Can we please go home now?” Dominick asked in a calm voice.

“In a little bit.” Derek answered. Dominick sat down again, entertaining himself with his phone for a while. About a half an hour later, Dominick stood up again.

“Alright, you ready?” Dominick asked.

“Ehh… In a while.” Derek giggled.

“Derek, I’m really ready to go. It’s four in the morning.” Dominick was starting to get wound up.

“I’m not ready yet.” Derek answered coldly. “Just sleep on the couch!”

“Fuck it. I knew this would happen.” Dominick snapped, grabbing his jacket off the back of the couch.

“Wait, Dominick. Don’t go.” Gina interjected. Dominick just glared at her. She grabbed onto his arm and tried to pull him onto the couch. “This isn’t because of me, is it?”

“It’s not about you right now, but if you don’t remove your hands from my arm and shut the fuck up, that will change quickly.” Dominick snarled.

He finished pulling his jacket on and stomped out the door. He had no idea where they were, so he pulled out his phone and started his GPS application. It turned out he was about twelve miles from home. The anger blinded him. Twelve miles was doable, he thought.

Dominick’s phone started vibrating. It was Derek. He quickly pushed the ignore button. It buzzed again a few seconds later with a text message.

Derek: Where did you go?
[Five minutes later]
Derek: I’m in the car. Let’s go.
[Three minutes later]
Derek: I’m leaving in five minutes.
[Ten minutes later]
Derek: Fuck it. Bye.

Dominick continued walking down the street in the dark. The cold caught up to him. It was about thirty degrees that night. After about twenty minutes, he was hoping deep down that Derek would pull up the curb in his heated car. But he didn’t.

Another twenty minutes passed and the emotion caught up to Dominick, too. He pulled out his phone and dialed Claire’s number. He just wanted to tell her he missed her.

“Hey Dom! What’s up?” Claire asked.

“I miss you.” Dominick tried to say in a plain voice. It wasn’t plain at all, though. He was practically sobbing.

“Oh my God, Dominick. What’s wrong??” Claire demanded.

“You were right. I’m so sorry I didn’t listen to you when you tried to warn me.” He continued to cry.

“Fuckin’ Derek. I swear to God.” Claire growled.

“It’s me. I knew I shouldn’t trust him. My instincts told me from the start that he was bad news. I fought with you, with my mom… I tore my whole life apart and left everyone that loved me behind. I’m so fucking stupid!” Dominick whined.

“Was it a stupid decision? Probably! But now you know the situation at least. Now you won’t regret not trying, right?” She tried to calm him down.

“I don’t know why this hurts so much. I’ve been bracing myself for it from day one.” Dominick was starting to calm down.

“I know you, Dominick. You try so hard to see the light in everyone and then it’s like a slap in the face when you realize the person just doesn’t have that light.” She explained.

Dominick did see a light in Derek even though nobody else did. He was pretty good at reading people and typically let his first impression guide him. It had been a very long time since someone had hurt him. So was it possible that the light didn’t exist in the first place? Was he so infatuated with Derek that he forced himself to have faith in him? Even now, he didn’t think so.

Dominick’s train of thought was suddenly interrupted by the uproar of a group of drunken thugs in the alley he was passing. Looking around, he suddenly realized that he was in the wrong part of town. There were very few street lights and he couldn’t remember when the last car passed by.

“Dominick? Are you there?” Claire asked.

“I gotta go. I’ll call you when I get home, okay?” Dominick replied and then hung up.

He picked up his pace, but the voices didn’t fade as he covered distance. He finally glanced over his shoulder only to see that five or six large men were quickly striding behind him. He couldn’t make out any words, but their laughter pierced the air between them as if they were only inches apart.

Dominick transitioned to that awkward speed between walking and jogging. After a few strides, he looked over his shoulder again. The group had also picked up their speed and they were now closing the distance dramatically. Maybe he was overreacting and it was a coincidence, but Dominick had watched way too many horror movies to take that chance.

Now he could hear their boots crunching on the sidewalk behind him. He didn’t bother to look over his shoulder again. He ran as fast as he could. It seemed like it was hours before he found a dimly lit gas station to run toward.

“I need a ride!” He gasped as he approached the parked cab drivers at the gas pumps.

“Uh… Everything alright, boy?” a tall grey-haired man asked. Dominick looked over his shoulder again while trying to catch his breath. The men stood across the street for a short time, then turned and headed back in the direction they came from.

“Yeah… Yeah, everything’s fine. Are you in service right now? I need a ride.” Dominick finally answered.

“Where ya headed?” the cab driver asked.

Derek recited the address and the cab driver raised his eyebrows.

“It’ll be about fifty dollars. Are you carrying cash?”

“I’ll grab it from the ATM before we leave.” Dominick answered, heading for the door of the gas station.

As soon as he climbed into the cab, he texted the name of the cab driver, the license plate number, and the cab number to Claire.

Claire: Where the fuck are you??
Dominick: On my way home.
Claire: Are you safe?
Dominick: I think so. I’m in a cab (obviously). I’ll text you when I get home.
Claire: Bullshit! Keep talking to me until you get home! What the hell happened?

Dominick explained all the details to Claire during the drive. He finally arrived at the house at 6:00am.

“Rough night?” Aunt Cindy asked as he walked in the front door.

“You could say that. I’m gonna get some rest.” Dominick smiled as he passed by her.

He walked straight to his room, shut the blinds, and climbed into bed fully clothed. He wanted to scream at Derek, but wouldn’t be the first to talk after this event. Before passing out, he decided to update his Facebook status. He knew they went directly to Derek’s phone.

“I give up.”
