Jon Stewart to return as Oscar host

"Jon Stewart will return as host of the Oscars in 2008.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday that Stewart will host the 80th awards show Feb. 24 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Oscar telecast producer Gil Cates described Stewart as smart, quick and funny. He said Stewart loves movies and is a great guy.

Stewart got mixed reviews when he hosted the 78th annual awards. Some jokes fell flat and some critics expected the political satirist to be edgier.

Stewart joked that he is thrilled to be asked for a second time, because the third time is a charm.

Stewart hosts "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" on Comedy Central.

He hosted the Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002."

YAY!

I liked him the first time, thought he did get mixed reviews, and i'm glad he'll get another chance at it! Discuss Discuss.

I loved the Daily Show where...was it Aasif? reported from the following Academy Awards. "After the trainwreck that was last year, finally, the healing can begin."

That is great news, I think he had a shaky time of it the first time around and will learn from that. I expect he will be awesome this time around. Ellen also deserves a second shot, she too will be better the second go round.

Oscars 2008

Oscar Nominations will be announced tomorrow morning. What are your predictions for the categories?!?!

Overall seems like it may be an interesting selection. A number of the films that have been in focus of previous nominations are all violent-- No Country For Old Men, Sweeney Todd, Eastern Promises... Sure doesnt seem to be the typical choices we usually see.

Be interesting to see what the nominations come down to tomorrow!!

Re: Oscars 2008

I think There Will Be Blood will be lionized. It has gotten overwelmingly great reviews.

No Country For Old men will also do well IMO.

It's hard to know what will happen with Atonement and Sweeny Todd, but I think Atonement will get a nod.

I hope Seeny Todd gets one as well.

I cant wait to see "There Will Be Blood"!

Best part about the Oscars is that there are usually upsets/surprises in the nominations! Look at past few years of nominations and winners... Dreamgirls not getting the best picture nod after being the frontrunner in all previous awards shows.... Brokeback Mountain losing best picture to Crash... etc etc... Never can really tell what will happen. Especially since there really does not seem to be a huge frontrunner this year. It has been a long time since we have had an obvious winner like TITANIC

Re: Oscars 2008

I thought Brokeback was a pretty obvious winner. My jaw dropped.

But I liked Crash better anyway.

CRASH was my choice for best picture that year since I saw it during its march release or whenever. Once Brokeback was released during oscar season, I totally believed that Brokeback was gonna be the winner at that point... especially after it was sweeping up every other awards ceremony. I was disappointed it lost best picture. But it was kinda cool to see a film like Crash, that usually goes forgotten by years end due to its early release, jump up from behind and win so unexpectedly.

Lordy, Lordy, can we please not go there again.

When all that was going on last year, I thought there really WOULD be blood.:p

Re: Oscars 2008

Ugh, I hope it's not overrated floptastic Angelina.

Re: Oscars 2008

People have to remember that popularity counts as much (or more) than the talent displayed when it comes to being nominated and even winning.

Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie among others are really well-liked in the film community. When a chance comes to "honor" them, people tske it.

This is one reason Clooney will probably be nominated as best actor (and may win) even though hardly anyone saw Michael Clayton

I'm not suggesting his performance doesn't deserve a nomination. Just that his likability may count even more.

Re: Oscars 2008

I wish Across the Universe gets acknowledged. It was such a beautiful film. No film has ever been like that!

i loved it! saw it numerous times in the theater. but, i feel that it wont be acknowledged for any big award nominations. perhaps art design etc are possible though.

im guessing she prob. will get a nod. the film, A MIGHTY HEART, was difficult to watch and obviously not very widely seen based on its content.... i feel her performance ranged from having seconds of greatness to overall being "good". overall it really did not stand out to me at all.

I am not surprised with the nomination. Overall I do believe the film is overhyped though. Perhaps I will like it more on a second viewing. Must say, so many people compaire it to "Little Miss Sunshine" in its offbeat humor... I don't think it comes close! "Little Miss Sunshine" was sooo much better.

You can't honestly be surprised. It's been getting Oscar buzz since it came out.

And made more at the box office than everything else on that list.
