Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

A father takes his wife to court so that he can get his perfectly formed child scarred for life.

This one sounds more "social" than religious.

Now, having said that, let me grab a seat and a nice cuppa, been a while since we had a shit-fest............:corn::corn::corn::corn:

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

This father is taking quite a big risk with his future relationship with his son, all to have their dicks match. Firstly the kid is going to remember his mum being locked up for this, and then the pain and fear of forced circumcision (babies get the benefit of not remembering this, and adults choice it). Secondly, the relationship between the parents here is well and truly gone, and from the sounds of it the mother has custody of the child - I doubt she will look back on this positively when it comes to the father.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Plot twist: Ten years time the kid wants a sex change. Full op.
Wants to match his mum.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

The OP says something about a "parenting agreement". Is it any wonder the US is the most litigious society on Earth if a child's foreskin status can be legally predetermined before birth. The court should take the poor little sod away from both parents and get him adopted by someone normal.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Wonder if they'd enforce an agreement for the kid's tonsils to be taken out as a precautionary measure?

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

I am pretty sure that the courts see this as an agreement for a "standard" procedure. They signed it in 2012 when they split up. Most times the circumcision is within a few days of birth, seems odd that they waited until the boy would have been over a year old to decide to do it.
The boy is 4 1/2 now, the father should concede and back down for the sake of his son, it's bad enough to do it to a new born, but horrifying for a boy who will remember it and the pain.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

They should ask the little guy what he thinks. I guarantee you that a 4 year old will have an opinion.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Even if the boy gets Lidocaine injections in his penis to stop the pain of the surgery (which he should, unless they are complete barbarians in Florida or wherever he gets amputated), he will remember the couple of weeks of post-surgery pain in that delicate part of his anatomy. Good thing he is not yet old enough to get spontaneous erections!

I agree with posting #17: "best interest of the child." But what is the child's best interest in the case of a medically unnecessary procedure?

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Not sure how it is in Canada, but a substantial majority of American males are circumcised, not just "rednecks".
What a coincidence. Most of Canada's rednecks come fron Saskatchewan. :)

Actually, the substantial majority of American males are rednecks.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

I have to laugh at threads like this. On the one hand, there are the idiots who freak out about how circumcision "scars you for life"....... Having been circumcised I can honestly say that is a bunch of malarkey. On the other hand you have the freaks that insist circumcision has to be done to prevent any number of diseases and such...... That has been also proven false.

In this case it should have been done, simply because the parents had an agreement to do it. The ex doesn't get to break her commitment simply because she's been brainwashed by one group of idiots since the divorce. It should have never had to go to court. They should have just done it when they agreed to back at the beginning. It isn't like it will really make all that much difference afterward. The boy will still be complete and intact. It isn't like he's being tattooed or anything. #-o

And it isn't like it matters to any of us one way or the other. We have no say in how they should live their lives.

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Normally "what's in the best interest of the child" overrules any ideas cooked up by the parents. It does not appear the court considered that.

Well, a magic moment of US American judiciary, apparently.

To an extent, this decision reminds me of 1945, when US American judiciary prompted that the Mafia in Italy has to be rehabilitated/reinstalled, since they've been allegedly "resistance fighters" against Mussolini…

Re: Florida Circumcision Decision in the News

Apparently, I stand corrected about little boys not getting spontaneous erections. According to Sixthson and Otters, they can, especially with full bladders. I don't have any sons, only daughters; so my personal knowledge is lacking here.

Wonder why this went to court anyway.
Seems like a lot of time, expertise and money has been spent arguing over a kid's ding dong.
To be honest, it's hard to understand why the father is so insistent on the circ. It's probably more a battle of wits between divorcees rather than any actual concern for the kid.
Parents are arseholes.

Its just as hard to understand why the mother is so against it, especially since she had originally agreed to have it done.

No, it isn't that hard to understand that. Everyone who has a little bit of legal insight knows that "pacta sunt servanda" has limits, at least the court should have known that; vide supra # 17.

Knives and blood and stuff, I'd say.
Or a way to point score against an ex.

Wonder if the judge would have upheld having to maintain a certain hairstyle for the kid, or if that would have been frivolous?

Well, at least that wouldn't inflict a loss of living tissue, would it?

Exactly. The lawyers are getting involved for the same reason that surgeons do the operation in the first place: they make money out of it.
