We continue to look for causes

Experts pretty-much agree on what causes autism (lesions in the brain), but they still don't know what causes the lesions. That's pretty-much been the consensus for decades. Until they discover what it is which causes the lesions, autism won't be cured or prevented.

Hmm. Well, not lesions exactly

Autism appears to be developmental and related to abnormal connections between areas in the brain. There haven't been findings of specific abnormal structures or lesions or anatomical changes (like those found in Alzheimer's, for example). Some recent post-mortem examinations have found atypical neuron networks but the findings haven't been extended into a cause-effect relationship.

If anything, it appears to be a problem at the cellular level which, if true, increases the likelihood that autism develops early- perhaps before birth or very early in the brain's devleopment.

But seriously, what slip were you talking about?

From medical point of view, is it better to circumcise when you are an older and have problems with foreskin or when you are a baby ?

It's better not to circumcise unless there's a physiological, family or religious reason to do so. In adults, it's considered a major surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia and 4-6 weeks of recovery. In infants, it's done under a local anesthetic and it typically heals in about 7 days.

There has to be some brain power there. His eyes are looking right and his mouth is looking left.

Sorry, but I find your assertion a bit dubious... My brother, 55 years old, underwent circumcision 6 weeks ago (for repeated diabetic related infections), and the procedure was done under local anesthetic, took about 25 minutes from start to finish. He was able to walk home from the clinic one hour after the procedure and was completely recovered in about two weeks (remember that he is diabetic and have a rather long scarring curve...)

Just to be clear, it's not an assertion. It's based upon professional knowledge.

There are several different procedures that fall under the general description of "circumcision". A frenulectomy and dorsal slit can be done under a local anesthetic or penile block (DPNB). For a full procedure which removes the foreskin and the frenulum, the controlled atmosphere of the operating suite is preferred for both asepsis and comfort of the patient.

Without knowing the particulars of your brother's procedure, it's not clear what was done but the usual bandage that is applied after a full circumcision is painful and most men find it too painful to be active for about 2-3 days after the surgery.

You might add, that the uncircumcised head is extremely sensitive to the extent that wearing clothing will be uncomfortable for a long time, until the skin thickens.

Less than 1% of Danes are Jewish (recall that most of the Jews fled Denmark during WWII). On the other hand, about 5% of the Danish population is Muslim.

The countries of Europe have an overall incidence of infant circumcision that is quite low- particularly among the predominantly Christian majority.

Of all the cofactors that might be considered- prenatal nutrition, presence of environmental factors like lead, socioeconomic factors, ethnicity, et al- one does have to wonder why this particular researcher happened to find a connection with one of his pet issues.

My brother was born in a very small town (1955) and isn't circumcised. I was born 5yrs later in a small city and am circumcised. I've never asked my mom if she allowed it or if the doctor just did it. No idea.
