No we do not. But the toddler in Italy was not a man, old enough to make an informed decision. Others made the decision for him and THAT is something we oppose very strongly indeed.

Her body, her choice. His body, his choice.

So, it's his choice, but you will call him "mutilated"? If you didn't dislike his choice you would not feel the need to express your contempt.

Ah yes, because world-wide 1 in 9 children die from diarrheal illness related to sanitation and clean drinking water. I'm sure that is dwarfed by those who die after a circumcision?

This is the logical fallacy known as "first world problem".

This thread is not about diarrhea. This thread is about botched circumcisions. Any attempt to change the subject is a whataboutism.

And even if he were an adult choosing to get mutilated, of course I would still call him mutilated. What do you call people who choose to get tattooed? I call them tattooed.

I, for one, did not know that there were different styles of circumcisions.

It could be called different types. It is in reference as to how tight the skin on the shaft is or if there is some skin is left and rolls over the glans. Also some circs are done closer to the glans, others are higher on the shaft and the scar is quite obvious.

I can't believe preservation was much of a concern. You kill an animal, cook it, and eat it. It's not like they were making mutton jerky down there in Egypt.

No one's happy about a child dying, but citing an extreme as evidence in the circumcision debate seems simply unfair. There are billions of people on this planet. Everything can and does happen eventually. That lady that slipped in her attic and died between the walls of her home, undetected, is a prime example.

Maybe it's the era. We have enough division of right from left, young from old, and rich from poor. It just seems like an unnecessary war to wage for penis sheaths.

Faulty generalization is one of the most common class of informal fallacies, mostly used to feed a confirmation bias.

I disapprove of both when done to others and approve when people choose it for themselves. I would not hesitate to call a tattooed baby mutilated.

I understand If you wanna advocate for parents giving the child a decision, but starting a moving to STOP IT COMPLETELY EVEN BY CHOICE is stepping on others rights, and it’s the opposite of liberalism, freedom, and rights.

They don’t care just like any other fringe group. They want to force their views with name calling like PRO LIFE NUT CASES.

Yeah, that's pretty ridiculous. People should be able to make their foreskin look like lace for all I care; if they're a consenting adult or at least are an adolescent that has talked it over with the doctor and parents.

You Americans have no idea how embarassing this article sounds to non-muslim and non-American ears. Anywhere else in the world, leaving a child intact is the default position, period. Everywhere, little boys and girls have the right to make it through childhood without any irreversible body modifications like amputations, tattoos or circumcision. To choose otherwise for your child requires a valid reason (or a religious one) and the approval of medical experts.

Only in America is there a whole circumcision industry fighting for survival, and promoting articles reminiscent of the ones about the benefits of smoking that you could read in the 1960s and 1970s.
