If you are referring to "down there hair"

No, I mean shaved hair, not shaved body hair.

Because Americans don't think things through. Probably one creepy doctor in the 1950's proclaimed that circumcision was, for whatever reason, preferable, and all of a sudden, like a trend, everyone had to put their babies under the knife.
. . . .

Isn't that about the time America went chop-happy?

When unnecessary appendectomies and tonsillectomies were done for kicks and giggles and bragging rights?

It's when the medical community and pharmaceutical industry realized what a cash cow the American public could be.

The legal drugs industry was still in the making, so...

^ Since when "old" means "traditional": "old" is merely yesterday's "new" getting rotten, after having usurped the genuinely "old", the "traditional": I always thought circumcision in the USA was more a XXth century fad, boosted after WWII... Cod knows why

I fail to see why people get so snippy about adult consensual circumcision. The push towards it in boys began in the late 1800's. It was presented as an inhibitor for masturbation by drs' such as John Harvey Kellogg. It was as prevalent in the UK as it was in the USA up until the time of the NHS, in America it continued because of the money trail.

"Adult consensual mutilation", "adult consensual slavery", "adult consensual discrimination"... then they say it's the "liberal" who are obsessed with PC, and the ones who go inventing funny ideas.

Clitoral ablation was devised as an inhibitor for masturbation too, and it's still 'prevalent' in some societies: pity the whole manly shaft was needed to preserve the holy species in the Western world.

Ah, money! Guns, the Bible and money!

A rose by any other name...

"Having lived with an intact penis for 21 years, Alex believed men circumcised as babies or young children would "tragically never be able to fully comprehend what has been taken away". He estimated he had been stripped of 75% of the sensitivity of his penis."

So true! Men who were genitally mutilated before puberty literally don't know what they are missing, and shouldn't talk about things they don't know anything about!

Once again, you put that very well.

Choice... remember that word? If a man chooses to wear a PA, is that mutilation? If a man chooses to have so many tattoos that he has more ink in his skin than the Sunday paper comics, is that mutilation? What about those who chose to wear those disks in their ear lobes? I get the natural versus cut idea, like natural child birth... let nature take it's course. We don't want to thwart nature now, do we? But tell me this... why do you not cringe when a fetus
is mutilated and the baby is thrown out with the foreskin? I know... it's a woman's right to choose, however, a man can't choose to alter his body? Well, sure... tattoos, piercings even of the penis are fine, but don't you dare chose
to part with the foreskin. Your logic lacks in consistency.

But tattoos and piercings are choices made by adults, they aren’t done at birth with no consent.

The case sited was done on a Englishman in Canada, what does that have to do with

I would add that circumcision should not be pushed as the 'norm' at new parents or adult men by doctors. I had a hernia repaired years ago and was kept overnight. I has been circumcised by choice about 10 years earlier and the doctor did a very loose 'cut', so much so that when soft it was difficult to tell if I had ever been cut. I am sure that my dick went into retreat mode during the hernia repair accentuating the abundance of skin covering my glans. As I lay in the bed in pain I was approached by a group of young doctors, I suppose that they were interns. They suggested circumcision to me telling me of the benefits. This was just plain wrong and without excuse, that's the price that we pay for having a 'for profit' medical system.

That reminds me of a story that Patrick Stewart tells. In his 7th decade he casually mentioned to his wife that being circumcised was normal for men of his generation. 'But' she said 'you are not circumcised'. He didn't believe her and so next time he saw his GP, a Jew, he mentioned it. The Dr told him to drop his pants and said 'As a Jew I know these things. You are not circumcised'
