It's about time. Genital mutilation should always be a crime. Religious freedom is not a valid reason to allow this practice to continue.

When circumcision was done as a matter of course, there were hardly any complications, because doctors got lots of practice. I can see complications increasing as the practice declines.

The doctor in question is a muslim doctor who probably does a circumcision every day or so. Not that it matters anyway. There are risks in every surgery.

this is going to be a touchy subject.

personally, as crazy and weird as this sounds, i think this argument could be tied into abortion since you know circumcision is usually a decision that is decided by a parent since a baby cannot speak for himself like how an abortion is. different situation but similar mindset, the parent is basically doing what they feel is best. i'm against it though since i feel that it should be a choice left to someone when they are of age to understand. if you want to lose your foreskin at a later age, you can do as you please.

i feel for all the people outthere that had accidents where the doctors didn't cut right. for real, makes me cringe. that's another reason why i don't think circumcision is all that cracked up to be. i'm glad my parents didn't do that to me.

Yaay! The boy's body, the boy's choice. We should never have to rely on our parents to guess the right answer regarding our own cosmetic standards. And we should never have to rely on our parents to guess what religion we will be when we grow up.

Two observations:

1. Interested parties will perceive this ruling as a direct attack on their religion. Things might get pretty ugly.

2. I dated a Filipino back in the 80s. They seem to have come up with a sensible approach to circumcision.
Boys aren't circumcised until they are about 12, when a group of them band together, go to the local doctor, and get circumcised together. It's seen as an important rite of passage, one that signifies the point of time when a boy becomes a man.

The thing I like about this approach is that 1) the boy can refuse if he wants and 2)they are old enough to understand the risks.

Ironically enough, they (the Filipinos) call this type of circumcision a "German circumcision", because only a part of the foreskin is removed.

1. I believe the Germans have already demonstrated they aren't afraid to take entire groups of people and make them be quiet....

2. There's really no such thing as a sensible approach to circumcision considering there is only one sensible circumcision, one that is medically necessary.

I remember my foreskin was tight and yes it hurts abit but now it is loose and can roll back totally.

Some cases are severe and won't respond to anything other than surgery.

From what I hear, it's also a tradition to get circumcised as a teenager or young adult in South Korea, too. I don't think it should be legal to perform any painful, non-lifesaving surgery on a baby. Wait until they're old enough to at least receive proper analgesia.


As far as the religious circumcision thing goes: The story goes that Abraham wasn't circumcised until he was 99 years old. I don't see why it's necessary to perform on a baby.

Another outdated and unnecessary religious tradition takes another step towards obsoletion. Good.
I can only think of two possible reasons why it became customary to circumcise baby boys.
1. In the middle east 3,000 years ago there was no soap or showers or underpants to speak of, but there was an awful lot of sand flying about so on a purely practical level, circumcision was probably the best option.
2. Some ancient priest had a wierd fetish for baby cock slicing and managed to pursaude everyone that god was up for this kind of thing so they should too.

Either way, over time it became established custom and as with most customs, anyone challenging it was ostracised so it just became accepted, almost without question. (One of the most curious examples I recall is from the Holocaust film Escape From Sobibor. I don't know if the incident actually happened in real life but it may have done. One of the women smuggled her newborn son into the camp and when it was discovered it was murdered by a Nazi officer. Before this happened she took a knife and circumcised the baby. To me all that did was compound the suffering of the baby by inflicting uncalled for pain moments before he was shot. I presume in her mind it was an act of defiance - so ingrained in her psyche was the notion that Jewish boys must be circumcised that for her to do this before he was murdered was in some way confirming his Jewishness?

Try looking at it rationally. There is no credible medical reason for wholesale circumcision to happen today. Imagine if religious or cultural circumcision had never happened before, but a new religion emerged, let's call them Jehovah's Scientormons and their founder announced that to be a member of their church, all newborns had to have their foreskin snipped off. Without anaesthetic. After all, we can easily get by without them and the kid will only cry for a few hours and get over it. The rest of us non Jehovah's Scientormons would, rightly, think he was fucking insane.

I think the German decision is absolutely spot on. It isn't your cock to do with as you wish unless there is a clear medical need. Leave the lad alone. If he wants it done when he is old enough to decide for himself, fine.

Protect a gay man's choice! He should have the option of sucking on cut or uncut penises. In the United States, it's a wonderful buffet of choices. You never know what you're going to get and that's exciting!
