It's one thing for parents to share their idea of "culture" with their children, even limit them from understanding they're part of a big world with a huge variety of cultures from which all of us, as free individuals, can draw.
It's another thing for them to literally cut their idea of their culture into a living human being too young to consent or understand.

I'm happy for my parent's barbarism and abuse. For as many guys who wish they weren't circumcised (which i've only seen on JUB), i've met 3 guys who wish their parents did circumcise them.
It's fine as a religious and cultural practice.
It's one thing for parents to share their idea of "culture" with their children, even limit them from understanding they're part of a big world with a huge variety of cultures from which all of us, as free individuals, can draw.
It's another thing for them to literally cut their idea of their culture into a living human being too young to consent or understand.

I never undestood why it's still being done..No real reason for it anymore.None of my young nephews (under 10) have been cut.I think it's becoming an outdated ritual..Fine with me..

Now that I think about it, it's funny how things work out there.
In my place, even for Muslims and Catholics, we never cut the foreskin immediately. Usually we wait until the child is old enough to understand the thing (around 9-10 years old) then perform it when they agree. When the kid suddenly changes his opinion before the procedure begins, he's off to go until he wants to do it and is ready. Of course as the boys get older they learn their religions and cultures and start to accept it as something mandatory for them and thus have a circumcision in the end.
I'm starting to think only Arab countries and Jewish people circumcise their children early in their lives - cultural things.
And as far as I don't suggest all kids to be circumcised, I don't think it's really at all a crime. Male circumcision is very different from female circumcision, which disposes most identifiable genital structures and thus causes impairments. Foreskin has rudimentary use and thus can be discarded on the basis of emergency (e.g. phymosis not responding to steroid ointments) or elective surgery (religion/culture influences). Intrusion of the kid's right to choose maybe, when it is performed without the child's consent, but suppose the kid chooses to be circumcised, you cannot just arrest the kid.

Circumcision performed by GPs are reducing in numbers. Even in third world countries many people opt to go to at least general surgeons unless they cannot afford it. The fact that someone 'promoted' circumcision from a minor surgery into a major due to the risks faced by those incompetent or not experienced enough change everything. And nowadays most trials are based on competence issues.

Lucky, we are talking about cut and uncut penis. Either way, it is a penis. YOu can't compare penis and vagina, in this case.
I do not believe most circumcused guys are unhappy with their dicks. Most guys get a lot of pleasure from their dicks, cut or uncut, unless the circumcision was somehow botched. To me, this is not a right or wrong decision. Choosing circumcision for your baby son is not a moral issue. I do believe if it is going to be done, it should be done at birth, however.

The religion thing I find puzzling. So many Jews and Muslims (and this is primarily who this law would hurt) are merely cultural. They don't observe their religion all that much. They rarely attend synogogs or mosques and many don't even believe in God. Yet they hold to two things: circumcision and not eating pork, as if this is all there is to being Jewish or Muslim.

Definitely not a personal choice, but Muslims in most Asian countries (except Arabic) wait until their sons agree to be circumcised. Either the boys are persuaded OR they learn Islam as they grow older and thus voluntarily follow the rules to be circumcised, claiming their choice as a proof of faith.
In the end, all Muslim men are circumcised - only not on the same age (except if they have certain conditions, e.g. haemophilia, hypospadia, etc.).

And yes, I'm being excessively glib to show how silly and unnecessary I think circumcision is.
I think that putting doctors, rabbis, and imans in jail for performing circumcisions is a little excessive, but the above is a very poor reason to have your child operated on. Society says that large breasts are preferable to small ones on our females, but if parents fitted their infant daughters with breast implants, people would be rightfully indignant.
And yes, I'm being excessively glib to show how silly and unnecessary I think circumcision is.
I know no one wants to hear from the 'English police', but I feel compelled to point out that mutilation does not guarantee a lack of function. An arm or a leg can be really chewed up and still function. That doesn't mean it isn't mutilated.

Incidentally this has nothing to do with liking the result or not. I could go around convincing parents to cut the earlobes off babies. They wouldn't suffer from it. The healing would be relatively uncomplicated. They wouldn't remember it as adults. It wouldn't harm the functioning of their hearing. Boys could grow up confident that they could get laid by all the chicks on BME who dig that stuff instead of being ignored and ridiculed like the guys who still have their lobes. Hell, I could even invent a religion to command it. But any sane civilisation would stop it befor it even began.
The most majestic hypocrisy comes from those who insist it is no big deal, but then completely lose their shit if anyone dares to suggest if it's truly no big deal now, then we should insist on the boy having his own choice when he's old enough. If its truly no big deal they shouldn't mind waiting.
And of course I like my circumcised dick. My guy's tongue can get its full attention and there are certainly enough nerves there to enjoy sex. But circumcision gives me zero health benefit and it just wasn't my parents' right to impose that on me. Maybe I would have decided to be circumcised. I highly doubt it. But i would at least like to have seen the effect of my boyfriend's tongue on the unique nerves that were removed along with a piece of skin that was, much like my earlobes, doing me exactly no harm, before I made the decision myself.
