I see this question in two distinct parts:

First, whether it is reasonable to circumcise an infant at all, at the whim of the parents. No, it is not, I say. Incidentally, blackbeltninja, parents who would get upset because they are not allowed to remove their child's functional healthy foreskin are the ones truly experiencing a first world problem.

Second, whether sucking blood out of the infant's penis constitutes a medically reasonable standard of post op care. Absolutely not. In no way is that procedure anything like pedophilia. There are not internet chat groups of mohels jacking off to the latest bris porn. It just doesn't happen. It is not intended as an erotic act.

So to answer your question, I do not support medical malpractice, nor do I support child abuse. They are two completely different things, as much as you would pretend they are the same.

None of that is to endorse the oral contamination of these circumcision wounds, but it is almost identical to the foment that this forum goes through for something like a racist shooting. There is nothing great or defensible about racial violence, but the attention it garners is in no way commensurate with either its incidence nor its relative damage within the minority group. One teenager is killed in a probable vigilante crime in Florida and rabid howling ensues. Thousands upon thousands of teens are killed by their own neighbors in LA, Chicago, Detroit, and elsewhere, and there isn't a peep relatively.

A lot of the outrage there is from two things: the ridiculousness of the shooting, and the fact that a law was being used to justify stalking to kill.

Many many times more youth die yearly of alcohol poisoning, which has no basis in religion, but dead silent in Hot Topics about alcoholism or any search for the factors that enable it as an ongoing social ill.

We choose our indignation very carefully. When the harsh lens is used to look at anything other that the prejudices that are acceptable today, I'll believe it represents something more than mere indoctrination of appropriate ire.

I believe we have had some teen alcohol threads.

You only have to look at the history of it. If you're determined to cut the end off someone's penis without them dying, you have to think about infection control. Before modern knowledge, sucking blood out of any wound, and drawing infectious pathogens introduced by contaminated surgical tools with it, would have a protective effect and would have been a smart thing to do in the day. All of this being before iodine of course.

And before strong spirits.

If the rabbi or whoever would take a serious swig of some kosher whiskey first, it would be a lot more sanitary.
