^I agree totally. One only has to look at the level of ECT that was once prescribed for numerous ailments. The blood letting really harks back to the day of the body being governed by the "humours".

We do still use leeches for certain procedures, and with success. The difference we are both trying to get across is that a babe in arms has no say, or even right to refuse this mutilation.
If it has to be done for anything that is not a medical necessity, then allow that young baby to make his own informed decision when he attains the age of maturity.....

Honestly I don't see why this is a big deal for some people (a small small minority).

Is your life terribly impaired by having a cut dick? I think not. There are more important things to protest against.

Yea I'm surprised we have wisdom teeth, tonsils and an appendix too.

But back when the practice started and at its height quite a few people thought it did have a medical or least health purpose and many still do.

'Bloodletting' is still done in modern medicine. Hemochromatosis, for instance.

I disagree with non-medically necessary circ. for infants purely because an infant has no idea what circumcision is and isn't old enough to understand what the procedure is. That said, there's also a great variation on the definition of circumcision. Some involve total removal, halfway removal, or merely a nick in the skin with a blade as part of religious/cultural practice. I'm hoping the latter becomes more popular so people can choose for themselves.

We used to sell cadavers back in the day to doctors, never made it right.............

We still obtain cadavers for doctors though the ethics of that transaction has improved some.

Lots of things were foisted on me as a child without my consent that have affected me FAR FAR FAR more than being circumcised.

Of course, you do realize that as a matter of course we leave wisdom teeth, tonsils and the appendix alone unless there is a problem,
then a doctor deals with it.
I have never hear of tonsils and the appendix being surgically removed from a new born because "they don't need it".

Eventually if science id right about evolution the items we speak of will change or disappear, it's a slow process.

Also at one time blood letting was on the cutting edge of things (pun intended) once it was found to do no good, they gave it up.

But the implied point was that they shouldn't be there at all because nature doesn't produce useless body parts. And yes there have been cases in the past when some other procedure was called for that the doctor and parents decided to remove such things as well.

There are many medical procedures done not because they are immediately needed but for preventative or even cosmetic purposes. For most of the history of the practice in the US circumcision was seen a preventative health issue and cosmetic issue (don't want little Timmy to look different from the other boys in the locker room). While the medical community overall no longer recommends the practice they do not find it specifically harmful either and therefore it is really up to the parents and not us to decide.

I would agree, I am not anti- circ nut, as a matter of principle I just point out that there are no benefits, so why bother the boys penis?
The guys that claim that their lives were ruined because they were "mutilated" are a little out there.

I would add that some lives have been ruined by botched circs., why mess with it?

To me the lesson in maggot and leaches is that all things in nature serve a purpose and are useful, included in this is the male foreskin.
When nature (evolution) no longer sees a productive use for organisms or appendages they fade away.

These days they use genetically engineered maggots.

Once the genetically engineered maggot has served its purpose it is taken into a little room where it is shot in the head, its little metal collar is removed, and it is processed and put in little cartons to feed the other genetically engineered maggots – they feed them to themselves.
