When our son was born the doctor presented the consent form as a "standard procedure" there was no discussion, it was what was done in the US in the '70's.
...............
But now in modern America is the 'standard procedure' still applied or is there some form of discussion and explication between the doctor and parents on the 'benefits' of having it done.
How much is a circumcision charged in hospital? Who pays if there is no medical insurance?
You've sort of just repeated the question.
Only, the thread's author isn't asking about everyone. Pickwick is focusing his inquiry to the popularity of circumcision in 'The US'. Or, why do so many people in 'The US' care about, or concern themselves with, a child's foreskin?

At the time I was un-circumcised and felt like a freak as nearly every guy I had ever seen naked(I saw plenty) was cut. I wanted my son to fit in and raised no questions.
I should add that the topic never came up before birth.

In America, foreskins are considered a delicacy- served with a red sauce, preferably over rice or cappellini....why do American guys get cut ?!

Cormac, please post the usual simpsons gif.
This was in the day before I began questioning doctors and other authority. It was a non issue at the time. That's weird, didn't you think about the fact you as any other human male was born with a foreskin so just be proud about it ?!
Well I don't want to creat a misunderstanding and question any body's beliefs and religion, but out of this and unless your son had no (what's the word again ?!) phimosis (foreskin to tight) can anyone tell me what's the point ?!
What is the thing with everybody caring?

This is such a controversial issue, probably impossible to post a comment without being challenged. First, I am circumcised and very pleased with being cut. Totally personal opinion but I view a cut penis as more pleasing to observe. Then there is the whole back and forth argument about health benefits, fewer UTI's in infants, studies about HIV and STD prevention, reduced incidence of penile cancer, etc. I believe the American Medical Assn. or some similar national association of Doctors, just published a new draft paper which for the first time cites the positive benefits of circumcision; while still emphasizing that the procedure should be personal choice of parents or adults. My two cents. ..![]()
Regardless of being pro or anti circumcision, can I just put it out there that when people say that I'm "mutilated," and talk about how much better and more attractive and more natural an "intact" (as opposed to broken and disfigured, I guess) guy is, and how I'll never enjoy sex as much as I should, and how my parents are terrible monsters for disfiguring a baby... I just want to punch them in their godforsaken shitty little faces. No, I probably won't circumcise my child, but making it out to be some awful, life-ruining disfigurement is a) incorrect and b) demeaning to me and other happily circumcised men. That is all.
Are you actually aware of the number of threads I began ?!Who says he actually cares? He probably just wants the notoriety that comes from starting a thread.
