Final update
I just got back from paying a visit to my surgeon who replaced my hip last January. X-rays were taken and discussed with me. It was the first time I had seen the replacement except from a distance. Anyway, he explained what had been done (but not how, thankfully). It was the first time I had heard that the socket had been replaced as well. At my age, it makes things fit and mend better.
I mentioned that the swelling had gone down and that the tissue was much softer. He examined it and was pleased with the result. He told me that the swelling should continue to go down over time until it wouldn't be visible anymore. Finally, he had me stand and walk across the room to the door without my cane. I did so easily enough and he told me that I didn't need to use the cane anymore unless I need it for balance. I assured him that I needed it, but rarely, if ever, for support.
He asked about any pain and I told him that it begins to hurt if I walk too far or if I stand too long, such as when I cooked Thanksgiving dinner.
He's cleared me for the future and, unless something happens down the road, that was my final visit with him.
The journey continues. Thank you Dr. P. You did good.
I just bought a set of ice grips for my shoes. They have a 9 out of 10 satisfaction rating.
They cost me $40, but I feel safer about winter already.

^ I've got my trusty YakTrax ready to be installed on my shoes. They should keep me upright, and I certainly won't intentionally be going out looking for ice to walk on.![]()

Dammit! I'm in bed with a cold and trying to rest. NOW I have to get up to make cookies. I hope you're happy.
