Show me any indication that Osama was in Afghanistan or in those mountains. Bush made a colossal mistake by focusing on Afghanistan at the beginning, and continuing to devote resources to trying to find him there instead of expanding the search to Pakistan. So no, it wouldn't have mattered because Osama was likely NEVER in that region of afghanistan. (and most of the former intelligence officials that are speaking out tonight are saying that exact thing)
