The Speaker was told about 10:00 Eastern as were most others, the White House must have known what they were doing when they notified the media of a 10:30 fifteen minute address by the President.

I'm just curious as to what the delay was all about..

The corporations who own the government were arguing over which patriotic emotion-grabbing phrases to use.

You mean the sign someone else put up and didn't refer to anything but the carrier's own participation in that specific operation?

Except it wouldn't have mattered seeing as how Bin Laden was in Pakistan, probably for the last 10 years.

So? I think the proposition was that Bush should have (1) stuck with Afghanistan until it was actually handled and (2) pursue Osama vigorously instead of putting it on the back burner.



Come on, guys -- the man is dead; that's justice, however slow. It doesn't mean anyone among the bad guys is going to fold up and cry and go home; it almost certainly means that some of Osama's barbarian friends are going to make trouble. But that's not all bad: get an enemy pissed, he makes mistakes. A burst of activity by the bad guys means an intelligence opportunity for the good guys.


I hope someone made a commercial for this -- it would open with a call to prayer in Arabic, followed by a dignified imam declaring, "The hand of Allah has struck down the ungodly one!"

This thread seems to be descending into right v left sniping (surprise surprise )

Given that the original thread was started by the poster (who still shows as the OP of the thread) as an "On Topic" discussion about the President's Address, I am going to replace the "On Topic" prefix and remind everyone to discuss the subject of that - the fact that Bin Laden has been killed - without descending into more partisan bickering and resorting to personal attacks.


Please remember the Forum guidelines and the JUB Code of Conduct - and celebrate what is a significant and achievement which has taken the efforts of two administrations and an enormous amount of hard work and sacrifice by many - as will the continuing fight against terrorism which certainly will not end here.

I just think it is funny. The teleprompter that is before you attempt to twist the words into something that fits your agenda. Hell if you watched the correspondents dinner EVEN President Obama thinks it is amusing. You seem to have pulled out various ethnic diatribes to express yourself. I guess to each his or her level of expression.

I have no agenda but it appears that you do. Obviously, you didn't watch the same speech I did last night. Obama was mocking his critics (finally). They can dish it out but they sure can't take it!

I am amazed at how kneejerk the Dubya defense still is here. He failed us--- a huge clusterfuck of epic fail, and Osama had years to live longer than the 24 hours max he should've had after 9/11, in a goddamn mansion. He was not, as we were led to believe, hiding like a coward, like a lowly creature in a cave, that's one thing that's at least somewhat palatable. He was in a mansion!

Blame Pakistan. They're in for quite the shellacking over the coming months.

Pakistan helped make tonight possible. I'm pretty sure they aren't free and clear from scrutiny, just as Lostlover and Kulindahr are discussing, and I think this Arab Spring might find its way there in a way so far unprecedented.

They made it possible in that they let the forces conduct the operation in their country. I don't doubt for a second they knew where he was the entire time.

And yes, Pakistan is going to have much to answer for.

remember Hillary giving Pakistan hell during the primary because she believed they were not cooperating?

I just heard a report that the way they got him was by NOT telling the pakistani military what they were planning.

so Pakistan has been protecting him the whole time. That makes me wonder how much of hillary's work is in this as well.

your instinct is almost perfect there. The CIA apparently realised that he was being moved an hour or so ahead of every predator drone strike on him.

So they decided someone was protecting him within the military. When The order went out to keep pakistan out of the loop it took us a few months to nail him.

This is what I am hearing on the tube anyway. Tomorrow we shall find out ALOT more.

Both Clinton and Bush have called Obama to congratulate him, BTW... the other two presidents who hunted Osama yet did not get him.
