PalacePaul Appreciation Thread

Good Wednesday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

It's interesting that you got to study Gregorian chants. We usually don't get to hear them, or even much about them.

So you have thunderstorms in the summer, which actually sounds a bit like Florida weather. I hadn't been led to expect that, since the weather in Spain is usually compared to California, which is very dry in the summer. But now that I think about it, it makes sense. You have a lot of sun and hot weather, next to the Mediterranean coast, which increases the humidity and creates breezes to stir up the air and build thunderstorms.

Good evening, John (*8*)
Of course you don't hear Gregorian chant very often, but we're Catholics here

Actually the weather in the Iberian peninsula (Spain + Portugal) is diverse. The Mediterranean area is dryer and hotter, but we have occasional thunderstorms in the summer. Last Sunday morning it was pouring!! And 2 hours later the sun was shining.

BTW I realise the hot priest image is photoshopped. The background is Barcelona cathedral

Hola Paul espero que estes disfrutando del verano , cuidate !

Good Wednesday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I hope everything is going well with you, and your organ and choir work. I'm not Catholic, but if they had more hot priests like the one is that picture, I might consider converting. *|*:-<

That is the Barcelona cathedral, the established church, not the grandiose Sagrada Familia that they're still building, which seems to get all the attention, right?

Hi Thad! I hope you enjoyed the party, it looked like fun ;)

Grancias Frankie. La pena es que la playa esté lejos de mi casa

Yes John, that is the actual gothic cathedral. Historical fact: the main organ in Barcelona cathedral has the oldest existing organ case in Catalonia, dating from the 16th century.

Hi Paul! Last week's party was the right amount of wildness for me. No actual sex on the dance floor but plenty of attractive shirtless men. Sometimes that's just right.

Happy weekend!

Good Tuesday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

I hope you're having a great week. BTW, when you say the Barcelona Cathedral has the oldest existing organ case in Catalonia, you mean that the church was specifically built to house the organ in its specific place, right?

Good morning Thad, John and Loner (*8*)
I hope you are enjoying a good summer week, not too hot, though.

John: the cathedral is older. The organ was built in the mid 16th century in one of the side arches. What I mean is that the wooden façade and the big pipes are original from that time (the inside has been rebuilt several times through history, though). I found a beautiful photo:

That photo of the organ is indeed lovely, I'm sure playing there is an experience. I hope you're doing well, and I suppose you're busy with playing assignments and choir directing.

Good afternoon, John. I hope you are doing well, and the heat isn't too much.
Believe it or not, that organ doesn't have anything special, I've played it a few times, The view from that height is impressive, though.

Something funny happened yesterday. I went to my former church where a girl friend played a concert. Three young organists came as they are part of the organ society in charge of the concert (the one I presided over until 2022). I knew all of them of course. I knew the 3 of them were probably gay (there are sooo many gay and lesbian organists ) Actually I was suspicious about 2 of them having an affair. Surprise: not these 2 ( B. and A.), but he and the other one (A. and G.)! They were really cute, holding hands over the table and everything  I wonder if their teacher is aware of this gay romance in her organ class

Isn't love wonderful?

I fly home tomorrow, but I've loved my stay in Chicago. I'll be back next year..and probably sooner.

Hope you are enjoying the summer!

Good Sunday afternoon, Paul! (*8*)

Ah, love among the organists! I hope they're having a great time together. It's funny that there are so many gay and lesbian organists. I don't know how things are in Spain, but in the States a lot of churches fired their organists in the past for being gay. I hope things are getting better now.

Good evening Thad and John (*8*)

Yes, I don't know why there are so many gay (and lesbian) organists, but it's a fact.
I never heard of anyone being fired for being gay (we're usually fired for money problems in the church :() As long as you do a good job, people pretend they don't know. But inside the organ world it's pretty well known who is and who isn't

By the way, next week I'll be teaching away from home, I don't think I will post much
