I'm officially banning the term "political correct."

It's terribly misused and has become a cheap deflection tool, completely void of context and often times simple logic. It's the new "nazi comparison." A quick TKO to a conversation is to call someone "PC" stripping them of credibility no matter how much sense they make.

You're a special kind of fake to pretend that there's absolutely zero possibility for this to have been done in mal intent. "Oh black people? Monkeys? I'm sorry, I've never heard of that. I don't see the connection."

Then you either slept through the entire month of February in high-school history or you're exceptionally dense and culturally deficient.

While you're at it ban "racist" too. That word is used in the same manner by some.

God you're so right. I'm sick of people saying to me "You're just gonna call me racist aren't you?" "You think I'm racist don't you?" If I used the word as much as people predict I'm gonna use it you'd think I had a 2nd grade vocabulary. The irony is.....nevermind.

"Hates black people" or "Thinks poorly of minorities" are so much more efficient since people usually associate "racism" with burning crosses and church explosions. Their failure to comprehend the meaning of the word and strip it of extreme associations makes the use futile as racism is much more nuanced.

And let's be honest, the stimulus package that passed certainly doesn't resemble much of what Pelosi et al wrote. Under the whining opposition it went from $1 trillion to just under $800 billion, which economists say is not enough to stimulate the economy.

It isn't necessary to call someone out as "PC" to strip them of credibility, they do it to themselves by being so intellectually dishonest that they cannot say what they really mean and try to pretty it up instead.

The Post's "explanation" is what they came up with as an excuse, but if you look at the cartoon and don't see the racism...well, I honestly don't see how an intelligent, knowledgeable person can look at that and not see it, so it confuses me that you don't.

Sharpton was fooled by Tawana Brawley, as were many others. And that happened 21 years ago. Al Sharpton annoys me, but I don't think it makes sense to bring that up here. It's a matter of judgement, not a matter of facts that someone alleges. This one is perfect information: we look at the cartoon and can judge for ourselves.

That's not an evaluation - that's a knee-jerk reaction, so typical of people with chips on their shoulders.

An intelligent, knowledgeable person would see it for what it is - a political cartoon. Period.

You looked at the cartoon and saw precisely what you were looking for.

Check out the history of political cartoons going back 130 years or so. This was pretty tame by comparison.

For centuries, essentialist arguments about the inherent inferiority of black people have relied on what's now known as the "Negro-ape metaphor" in order to justify the inherent superiority of the white race. There is a long historical precedent for the argument that depictions of black people as apes is racist in intent. There is no such historical precedent for representations of white people as apes.

BearDaddy, you said in your other thread that we're suipposed to be color-blind. While it would be nice if race truly made no difference in the way people treated each other, the fact of the matter is that we do NOT live in a color-blind society, and we cannot ignore history.

i guess my point is to ASSUME and judge that it's racist is convenient and lazy

when i saw it i thought "uh oh" as in i know there will be a shitstorm here

Didn't slimy al also incite a riot over what turned out to be a non-existent problem at a store or cleaners - a riot during which people died? He never apologized for that, either.

He is a slimy sob. Can't understand why he gets so much face time on the news - even on Fox. At least, I assume he still does - haven't watched tv for more than a year, now.
