It depends on where you cross. When I was in Niagara the last time, I drove across the border into Canada on a country road on my way to a winery and the guard was sitting with his feet up on the counter and just waved me through.

When I re-entered the US on a major highway, I was stopped by a US border agent who yelled at me, "Get out of the car!" and proceeded to check the car with a flashlight looking for drugs. Of course, that was before NY State legalized marijuana and it might be less painful now.

Going to Canada to experience the "Windsor Ballet" was usually easier than returning to the US.

Airport experiences have been similar. I always allow 3 hours for customs when I'm flying back to the US from Canada.

It is about a trade deficit that the US has with Canada.

His taunts and threats are not tied to any talk about border security.

They are about demeaning and diminishing Canada...to paint it as the enemy so that when the tarriffs make all your prices rise, we will be the ones blamed for this kleptocratic policy that will line the pockets of him and his friends and provide the tax revenue he needs to extend his ruinous tax cuts.
