When I re-entered the US, I was stopped by a US border agent who yelled at me, "Get out of the car!" and proceeded to check the car with a flashlight looking for drugs. Of course, that was before NY State legalized marijuana. ;)

Airport experiences have been similar. I always allow 3 hours for customs when I'm flying back to the US from Canada.

A friend from Buffalo gave me directions to St Catharines to go to wineries. I think it was the same trip where I went to Château des Charmes?

I was driving along this rural road and there was a one man booth with a stop sign. Even I was surprised since I was in a rental car with US plates.

You've got me stumped. From Buffalo you would cross at Fort Erie which is a pretty busy Border Crossing. I can't think of nay roadway crossing from the US side that is a single guy in a booth.

I'll ask my friend the next time I speak with him. This was a while back and it may have changed since then. The area was smaller wineries. Definitely not the Innskillin area with all the Asian tour buses!
