On a related note, I had the misfortune of having lunch with one of my right-wing podcast listening friends. It's always a revelation about a) how some people will believe anything and b) how Russia and far-right trolls have successfully overtaken social media to spread disinformation*. This is why Zuckerberg and company were called to heel in the past few months: MAGA can only exist if they are fed a constant set of fact-free outrages from social media trolls.

*The statement that just about had me spitting out my iced tea: "Kash Patel is an amazing guy! He's done a lot of great things for America!". While we were sitting there, I made him read the Rolling Stone article below, which my friend immediately labeled, "fake news".

It is useful to get some perspective on the unhappy white male contingent in the US and what is going on in their fevered minds.

What is really disturbing is to hear how much money they have sunk into crypto. It's like watching someone wager everything at a craps table.

Because I can't even think of what to say to them. I have told one business owner who started spewing nonsense that they were full of shit and that the MAGAts should just really fuck off.

I have no idea why anyone selling something would think this is where you want to go with customers, but there is a kind of mental illness compulsion with some of them.

Usually underpinned with racism or some rage about taxes and immigrants.

I am enjoying when the crypto crowd gets their savings wiped out although even then they are incredibly adept at shifting the blame to some imaginary forces that ruined whatever pyramid scheme they were invested in.

What I am afraid of is that at some point, Bitcoin will fail and will be so intertwined into the interantional banking system that it will crash the global economy.

I spent a good portion of my twenties sitting at happy hours listening to female friends talk about their horrible boyfriends and how bad they were treated, only to have them go back to those boyfriends. The next happy hour would be spent listening to how great the boyfriend was and all the special things he was doing and how this time it was different. Eventually, we would return to another breakup happy hour and the cycle would start again.

So, this experience with the Trumpers is nothing new to me. The only difference is that I drink iced tea instead of scotch these days.
