An asshole may jump one day over Kathrine Switzer because she is running a marathon, but he subsequently will have no problem with it as long as he is told it is perfectly acceptable for women to run a marathon.

A "phobic" is just born an idiot, and you can not educate or 'enhance' (in one sense or the other ) anyone "born that way".

I may agree that "phobic" is too clinical and patronizing, not the most suitable but, still, it is more accurate than just "asshole", because that is not describing the other, but your own feelings and attitude towards such persons.
