I think Target badly misread their customer base. Many people had been shopping at Target as an alternative to Walmart, who many regard as the epitome of everything wrong with corporate America. And then Target quickly rolls over and says "OK, Mr. Trump, we'll just abandon our values to please you" certainly came across as a rude kick to those looking for a store with better values.

Target used to be more mid-level when they were Tar-jaay. They had better stuff, especially clothes. Not overly expensive, but not the same cheap crap either. Then they decided to try and be Walmart-Lite and threw away that unique status. Now they threw away what standing they had for justice, respect, and equity, and have become just a weak shadow of Walmart, imitating the epitome of everything wrong with corporate America. Fuck 'em.

Add to that his childish impersonation of Greta Thunburg. Love or hate her is his choice, but for an adult in a once-respectable position of authority to comport himself publically like that is degenerate in the extreme, yet worse still is that the masses didn't - at least figuratively if not literally - stone him for it.

I think the point is though, that the GQP have never hesitated to exploit the accidents by Dem presidents and politicians and vice versa over the years.

There are staffers and political wonks in both camps whose job it is to seize on these events and exploit them.

In this case, the trophy fiasco is just a too perfect metaphor for the administration and people ran with it.

Like him fucking the couch.

It is all meaningless in the end, but part of the political games.

Americans are no longer even pretending to be serious about their federal politicians. It is all just infotainment to the vast majority now.

It means everyone gets to avoid substantive discussions as citizens about issues and policies...and largely this was possible because there was this huge machine of fairly competent people that actually made the federal government run.

That is now somewhat upended as TrumpCo. literally goes about wrecking it and substantively impacting the lives of smug voters who thought their privilege or overarching programs protected them.

I for one thought this was hilarious onluy because it was another politician who couldn't keep his hands off something he didn't earn or even deserve to handle..
It may be hilarious, but if we are only us vs them in every iota, there is no future of us.

We have legitimate grievances.

Our goal is not to adopt the Nazi plan of always having the enemy beyond the mountains as a unifying threat to keep us bound.

We want the endless propaganda to end on both side, not simply to use the same smears against them that they use against us. That just leads to a liberal version of Tump, not a return to civility.

I'm ready for a liberal version of Trump. The pendulum has swung so far right that it has no choice but to swing far left. That's what you are already seeing with all of the protests.

There is a difference between raising strong opposition to Trump and a liberal version of Trump. We can be staunchly pro-Constitution without stooping to his name-calling, without becoming mean-spirited, without being vindictive and vengeful.

I agree. There's a need for radical change but it needs to be done with a plan and not on the whims of an autocrat, whether it's a left-wing autocrat or right-wing autocrat.

The plan needs to include limitations on Presidential power. This should never happen again.
