I'm not a fan of naming military assets after people who weren't military heroes. Does anyone believe that Harriet Tubman or Ruth Bader Ginsburg would have been happy about something used in a war bearing her name?

Also not a fan of Secretaries of Defense who waste time with performative politics instead of doing their job. He's a security threat. Why haven't they gotten rid of him yet?
It is why I singled out Milk.

The Forces owe him this for the shameful dismissal.

The best part about this is that this has got people talking about Harvey and his legacy again...a way mor important impact than some dumb tugboat.

The ship is a John Lewis-class replenishment oiler.

Southern Baptists to Vote on Effort to Overturn Same-Sex Marriage

Southern Baptists plan to vote this week on acting to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court ruling that legalized gay marriage 10 years ago this month.

The step is part of a growing effort by evangelicals nationwide to reverse Obergefell, and coincides with a renewed campaign in state legislatures to challenge the widely accepted view that same-sex marriage has become an established civil right.

Thank you for reminding me why I left the Southern Baptist Church at 18 and never looked back. As an adult I appreciated the stories of spiritual healing experienced by LGBTQ+ adults who could find resolution and acceptance with the denominations of their childhood, but I knew very well that the bigotry and intransigence of the Southern Baptists made that impossible for me.

Today's devotional for Southern Baptists and their pastors who prey upon children and women in their congregation comes from Matthew 7:3-5:

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

A sexual abuse scandal has shaken up the Southern Baptist Church. A report issued just over a week ago confirmed that survivors who came forward alleging they were sexually abused by church leaders, ministers, workers and volunteers were ignored or silenced by church leadership and often disparaged. Meanwhile, the church kept a secret list of over 700 offenders. The list was even kept secret from most of the church's leaders. This new report was commissioned by the Southern Baptist Convention in response to a series of articles investigating widespread sexual abuse in the church.

Project 2025 calls on the federal government to “Protect faith-based grant recipients from religious liberty violations and maintain a biblically based, social science–reinforced definition of marriage and family,” and “Provide robust protections for religious employers,” while it denounces “the bullying LGBTQ+ agenda.”

You are going to see this at every turn.

The erosion of civil liberties for lgbtq people in every piece of legislation the House votes on. And It will get passed. Both in the House and the Senate and upheld when it finalllly makes its way to the Roberts SC.

I don't think the Democratic base would be too unhappy about having DHS defunded over this.... just sayin'.

I don't trust the Dems on this shit either. They always think they can somehow fix it later and are always chasing the REpublican voters they don't have and can't get by
compromising on this sort of stuff. Then throw their hands up and say 'But we can't do anything...if you want this fixed you'll have to vote for us...next time".

American Airlines shareholders voted today to reject an anti-DEI proposal at its annual meeting.... The proposal required AAL end its relationship with the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, benchmarking LGBTQ+ practices.

AAL has had a perfect score for 20 years.

You realize killing people is the plan. It's what they want.

We knew they were doing this several months ago.

I beleive that Canada has published our hotline numbers, but I suspect our system couldn't meet the demand.

But this is what people in the US voted for. Or didn't bother to vote against.

To be fair, they're not killing LGBTQ youth. Instead, MAGA is blithely looking the other way while the LGBTQ youth kill themselves. It's consistent with the attitude of protecting the "pre-born" while the "born" are on their own in this world.

This could all be solved if the hotline were renamed the "LGBTQ Fetus Suicide Hotline".

The same is happening with other mental health programs, including programs to deal with PTSD in veterans and with opioid addiction. 'Cause waste, fraud, abuse...

To be fair, yes they are. They are directly doing that something, with knowledge aforethought, which will result in the death of LGBTQ youth due to their deliberate action to prevent it. "Pulling the trigger" by proxy does not absolve them from responsibility for the gunshot. It is consistent with young people committing suicide because of bullying and harassment. It is like saying Hitler wasn't responsible for killing Jews because he himself didn't drop the Zyklon B into the gas chamber.

If you listen to these Christo-Fascists, they want gay people to die. They are preying on the most vulnerable, young people in distress. They're shutting down their lifeline. If you shut down the lifeline, the consequence is no different from killing them yourself. And they know it. It is what they want. The same goes for veterans, addicts etc.

I can say that I, having hundreds of Christian friends, have never heard any of them say they want gay people to die. I'm sure there are fringe extremists out there that feel that way but I've never met one.

What I can say is that in my lifetime, I have seen American Christianity move from a social justice ethos to a more self-centered philosophy. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, Christian churches took up collections to send to overseas missions, they volunteered their time for community charities and they talked about helping the poor. These days, churches are more charismatic, the sermons are more about "your problems are caused by a sick society". These churches spend a lot of money conducting "workshops" for their congregants who are in recovery from substance use, for couples having marital/family issues. The churches also spend a considerable effort gathering money to spend on their own churches, paying large church staffs and maintaining increasingly large church campuses.

Large churches in America are businesses that are dependent upon getting butts in seats and money in the offering plate. These churches use LGBT people as a pawn. If LGBT people were to die, they would lose one of their best foils to blame for all of society's ills. If the suicides of LGBTQ people were a cause that would increase their membership or increasing their tithes, they would be on the bandwagon in a New York minute.

They have found the "perfect" imperfect vehicle in Trump: an amoral, unprincipled narcissist who has no religious belief but is willing to do "deals" with anyone who flatters him and gives Trump something that he wants (e.g. votes, money and a get-out-of-jail-free card).
