Post Presidential opinions regarding LGBT rights in the future

Here's an interesting case of a US citizen seeking a gender recognition certificate in the UK. His US passport lists them as non-binary (X), but the UK Court of Appeal declined to issue a certificate stating their gender was non-binary because such a category does not legally exist here. I don't think it legally exists in the US any more.

This slipped under the radar:

The Department of Homeland Security is now allowed to surveil people based upon their sexual orientation or gender identity. Big Brother could be watching you!

A Department of Homeland Security unit eliminated policies prohibiting personnel from conducting intelligence activities based solely on a person’s gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Office of Intelligence and Analysis posted an updated policy manual late last week that removes references to those characteristics in sections that set guardrails on gathering intelligence.

The revisions follow President Donald Trump’s Jan. 20 directive to scrap policies and protections focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion across federal agencies. I&A’s work has attracted close scrutiny for years because of its domestic focus, with intelligence often involving US citizens and others in the country.

Maybe we need to get a VPN or start using TOR. I'm not sure if even that would work, though.

A VPN has become a necessity in States in the South have started blocking so many adult sites. An increasing number of adult sites are blocking states like Louisiana that have banned adult sites without proof of age. If SCOTUS upholds the ban, it will only get worse and a VPN will be the only way around it.

JUB is a membership site, so we haven't restricted content to unregistered members... yet. JUB restricts registrations from VPN addresses because of the spambot problem, but we don't restrict VPN access once the account is registered.

My guess is that DHS will target undocumented Americans who are trans, but as we've seen in history, it always starts with one minority and then the list of persecuted minorities increases over time.

Just a check-in on the move toward getting Obergefell overturned by the Supreme Court.

The Oligarchs will be using this as a mid-terms rage maker for their knuckle dragging base to get out the vote.

When this happens, there's a rich billionaire somewhere who has given money to a right-wing think tank to get almost identical legislation introduced at the State level. And it's usually one of the evangelical billionaires in Arizona, Florida or Texas and it usually involves Ted Cruz, Clarence Thomas and their benefactors.

The Advocate seems to have been awakened from their Out magazine slumber. They are noticing that there's a campaign under way to undo progress. Like Ames v. Ohio Department of Youth Services, which SCOTUS has agreed to hear. The plaintiff in Ames claims that she was discriminated again and passed over for promotions because, gasp, she's straight!

The case is kind of moot though now isn't it?

With Trump and the fall-in-step neo-fascist movement demolishing DEI...as a woman she'll still be way down on the list for promotion.

And it looks like Target is beginning to realize they made a mistake. 10% drop in sales since they dropped their DEI programs. Black consumers have been boycotting Target since 1-Feb to coincidence with Black History Month.

Other timed boycotts are planned for Walmart and other companies that have dropped DEI programs.

And on Feb 28th, there's a one-day purchasing boycott planned against nationalized retailers. There's another one planned for 18-Apr.
Consumers are preparing for a 24-hour economic blackout on Friday, one of several boycotts planned by groups of consumers or activists to protest what they call corporate greed, companies that have rolled back their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and President Donald Trump's efforts to eliminate federal DEI programs since taking office.

On Friday, those groups are encouraging consumers to not spend any money anywhere for one day. If they have spend, they are encouraged to buy from a local business.

Trump's EO only applies to Executive Federal Agencies. This is what academics who study autocracy call "obeying in advance" and capitulation.

The other anti-DEI actions are coming from the usual suspects - White Evangelical Christians and far-right activists who are showing up at shareholder meetings. Some investigative journalist needs to follow the money trail on this one.

But this is what I mean...so many companies led by cis het mediocre white guys LOVE this bandwagon and licking Trump's anal ring. So they have tried to turf DEI to fit with TRumpian diktats.

Including PBS...which is NOT a government agency.

I am heartened today.

The shareholders of John Deere gave a real slapdown to the Board for trying to kill their DEI programs.

Exactly. You got it.

Some of the behavior is bartering. Musk, Zuckerberg, Google... all were in trouble with the regulators, particularly the Biden FTC that was threatening to break them up into smaller companies. The companies put in money and Trump, he put out.

There was absolutely no reason for these companies to publicly pull out of DEI, except to seem like they were following Trump's lead in exchange for favors these billionaires wanted for their companies. Best government money can buy.

For the record, I'm not a fan of DEI. I think it was more virtue signaling from corporate America, no different than their love for selling rainbow-theme tchotchkes during Pride month. If they really want to do something, fund scholarships and small minority-owned businesses... recruit from HBOCs... have a management team that looks like America... speak out against tyrants like DeSantis and don't back down. But sucking up to MAGA is equally as empty and performative as the DEI stuff was.

I also am no fan of structured DEI...although I see the reason for it, from the time I was a young homo almost shut out of a cis het white male profession to coming to understand what everyone else who wasn't had to do to somehow get a fair shake at just about anything.

So I realized that any impatience I had was because of privilege as a cis white homo male who still took up the oxygen in the room.

And when you factor in that it is also about shutting out people with any kind of disability, or ageism etc. that you realize that if the world was working correctly, DEI wouldn't be a thing.

It is why I am cheering on Target and John Deere and any other large conglomerate being beaten up by their shareholders and/or customers.

Because otherwise, I know exactly who will make the decision. Some cis white het male of average intelligence who doesn't want to see anyone who isn't him in the organization.

This is point that has been lost in the whole "woke" and "anti-woke" bullshit: a lot of those Federal workers who are being laid off have disabilities, particularly veterans.

Trump's sudden dislike for DEI is being sold as "get the black, (lgb)T and other unworthy lazy workers" out of government. The reality is the Federal workforce includes a lot of vets, people with minor disabilities and a lot of single mothers who weren't hired solely because of some quota. And we're not hearing enough about who all of this is hurting.

And of course, these demos don't have a voice either.

All the MAGAts out there thinking that DEI was just about hiring a lot of brown, trans, non-binary, lgb (and women) instead of mediocre white guys totally missed that it had been the lifeline for thousands of vets who otherwise just kicked to the curb after they give everything for the US.

But Trump considers them losers and suckers so what would you expect????

Welcome to Germany in the 1930s...

Getting rid of protections for LGBT workers...
To billionaire Elon Musk and his cost-cutting team at the Department of Government Efficiency, Karen Ortiz may just be one of many faceless bureaucrats. But to some of her colleagues, she is giving a voice to those who feel they can’t speak out.

Ortiz is an administrative judge at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission — the federal agency in charge of enforcing U.S. workplace anti-discrimination laws that has undergone tumultuous change since President Donald Trump took office. Like millions of other federal employees, Ortiz opened an ominous email on Jan. 28 titled “Fork in the Road” giving them the option to resign from their positions as part of the government’s cost-cutting measures directed by Trump and carried out by DOGE under Musk, an unelected official.

Her alarm grew when her supervisor directed administrative judges in her New York district office to pause all their current LGBTQ+ cases and send them to Washington for further review in order to comply with Trump’s executive order declaring that the government would recognize only two “immutable” sexes — male and female.

And the ADF Legal (aka the legal branch of the Focus on the Family / James Dobson ministries) found a religious counselor who has a psychotherapist license (most religious counselors aren't required to have a therapist's license or any formal training) who wants to do conversion therapy in Colorado. Colorado outlawed conversion therapy. SCOTUS just agree to hear the case.

The Supreme Court granted a Colorado therapist’s request to review her challenge to a state law banning mental health care providers from engaging minors in conversion therapy, a discredited practice that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity to align with heterosexual or cisgender norms.

Kaley Chiles, a licensed professional counselor in Colorado Springs, challenged the law in 2022, claiming it interfered with her ability to treat individuals with “same-sex attractions or gender identity confusion” who “prioritize their faith above their feelings.”

I am sure the Log Cabin Republicans on here and out there have no problem with it at all because it doesn't affect them.

And the idea of the SC taking this on is chilling because you know it will be a 5-4 decision in favour of freedom to provide conversion therapy 'services'.

I've never been a fan of legislatures getting involved in minutia about different treatment modalities. Whether it's abortion, gender dysphoria treatment or, yes, conversion therapy, it should be up to professional organizations to lay out accepted therapies.

The problem with conversion therapy is that states have been very liberal in allowing anyone- and I do mean anyone- to call themselves a "therapist". Because ministers and priests have been given a loophole to do "marriage counseling" and other "therapies", it has resulted in very permissive and weak laws around psychotherapy. It's why we have "life coaches". It's why we have unlicensed church groups doing "conversion therapy". Until these loopholes are fixed, the weird and wonky people who call themselves "therapists" are going to continue to do damage to people, including young LGBT people.

And since the evangelicals have done a Faustian deal with the Felon-in-Chief in the White House, they're going to be able to accomplish a Dominionist agenda that they haven't been able to accomplish through democratic means.

This.

The permission that the religious hucksters have been given in America to basically practise 'faith healing' is carte blanche for psychological abuse.

We are back to the 19th century.

Nect big thing...and with RFK's endorsement....leeches.

And maybe lobotomies.

I didn't take it as a good sign when the pics of the 'Enola Gay' were taken down by this rag tag NAZI cabal.
