President Elect's telephone call to President of Taiwan

I suppose underwater drone is
a spy machine and a big boat can fish it out of the water ...

It is said to be for water temperature and weather. But the real question is, why did we let them do it?

Yes Ben. I'm sure China called and asked Obama for permission before seizing the drone that we are now getting back. That bastard Obama totally gave them the green light.

Of course not, but it seems likely that the US ships in that area are under instructions not to use force in response to even extreme provocations. That would explain why our ship let it happen.

I suppose you think W should have used force in response to China seizing one of our spy planes and holding it's crew in it's custody for a time?

I foubt if we had the ability we did have the ability to stop the theft of the drone.

You must not watch Rachel.

The dispute occurred within China’s Exclusive Economic Zone [EEZ]

China’s actions for asserting and defending its maritime territorial and EEZ claims in the ECS (East China Sea) and SCS (South China Sea) raise several potential policy and oversight issues for Congress, including whether the United States has an adequate strategy for countering China’s “salami-slicing” strategy, whether the United States has taken adequate actions to reduce the risk that the United States might be drawn into a crisis or conflict over a territorial dispute involving China, and whether the United States should become a party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

This also suggests that our ships in the area are under orders not to use force.

I think USNS Bowditch (T-AGS 62) is unarmed. I’m not sure about the PRC DALANG III-Class ship (ASR-510).

Bowditch made contact with the PRC Navy ship via bridge-to-bridge radio to request the return of the UUV. The radio contact was acknowledged by the PRC Navy ship, but the request was ignored.

And this is why people like you and your Fuhrer are so fucking dangerous in this world.

The US would have done exactly the same with unauthorized drones in your territorial waters.

But the idea that then you turn the guns on the other nation and start blasting is just stupid, stupid, stupid.

The rest of the world doesn't care how big you or China thinks your dicks are.

And we don't need the world bombed to glass because one of you juveniles lost a toy in the other's back yard.

Trump does so much flip-flopping, it makes one dizzy. Yesterday he was slamming China for 'stealing' the drone. Today, he's telling China to keep it.

It's like the throws an idea at Twitter to see if it will stick. When it doesn't, he throws something else. If he'd been captain of the Enterprise D, he never would have made it past Farpoint.

I was so surprised by this comment I actually checked his Twitter(I'm not on there) and saw it for myself.

What really boggles my mind is why no one is asking themselves why the sudden flip flop? Does Putin want the drone for some reason, or did Trump finally attend one those intelligence briefings and they told him it really was just there to measure ocean temperatures. Who needs to study climate change, right?

It's probably because the drone was returned.

He's simply childish and contrary.

I think you are right. It is inconsistent to say it is weather while making a big fuss to get it back.

You are spot-on, sir.

This reminds me of a discussion I got into back when I won a trip to the UN in a speech and essay contest. We were looking at how the UN functions, and the key concept that the big powers of the world can keep the rest in line. But over and over it seems that what is really needed is the opposite: a system where the small powers of then world can keep the big ones in line, because so much of the time it's the big powers that need such keeping.

Apparently it's a State-run newspaper which is saying that China should be prepared to invade Taiwan.

That's got one of the most interesting typos I've ever seen -- apparently Taiwan has a "Deocratic Progressive Party".

It also shows China's hypocrisy: their US ambassador had this to say:

“Basic norms of international relations should be observed, not ignored...."

Yet China's entire foreign policy is based on ignoring, not observing those.

It's frequently about foot stomping and tantrums when foreign governments so much as acknowledge entities that China has on a blacklist.

A destabilised USA caught up in domestic issues provides the opportunity for a paranoid China to overtake it as the world's hyper power. China made real gains during the GW years and have been thwarted by Obama of late.
