It's frequently about foot stomping and tantrums when foreign governments so much as acknowledge entities that China has on a blacklist.

A destabilised USA caught up in domestic issues provides the opportunity for a paranoid China to overtake it as the world's hyper power. China made real gains during the GW years and have been thwarted by Obama of late.

China will inevitably become the world's premiere power, but how it gets there is important. Allowing it to trample on others contrary to the UN Charter will be dangerous.

Sadly, I don't think Trump would even grasp that; I think he'd rather do without the UN.
