Taiwan needs to give up that idiocy, too. They're either a separate country or they should rejoin China. But after seeing the way CHina has treated Hong Kong, they'd be smarter to tell China to go fish.

The important thing to remember is,
do NOT meddle with other countries internal affairs.

Just look at all the countries around the world that foreign countries meddling other countries internal affairs.
Iraq, Libya, Vietnam ... etc ... etc ... etc

The US has prevented North Korea from invading South Korea. The US has prevented China from taking Taiwan. Our support has prevented the destruction of Israel. We prevented the communist take over of western Germany, Granada, and the Marshall plan saved much of western Europe. After we failed in Vietnam the noth killed a half a million in the south, which is typical of communist take overs.

The U.S. could claim Cuba and tell anyone who objected to not interfere in our internal affairs, and it would be just as valid as China claiming Taiwan.

Make that "typical of totalitarian takeovers" and you're right. Governments the U.S. has supported have done the same thing, and so have Islamist governments.

FWIW, the United States acted initially in Vietnam because of a treaty with the then-legitimate government to come to its defense. Yes, the then=legitimate government was a colonial French one, but we were fulfilling a treaty obligation.

This is rarely told by anyone, since it has become unpopular to say anything in support of U.S. action there, but it was how it got started.
