president Obama and transgender bathroom controversy

Just as transsexuals have been doing for all of our lifetimes.

I've never heard of a problem being caused by that long-time practice. NEVER. Not even once.

I'm sure there have been problems - not every human interaction everywhere in the world is reported in the news - but I guarantee these laws will cause massively more problems, assaults, or perhaps even killings. (Think STAND YOUR GROUND states - "But, officer I think he's a guy but he looked and acted like a woman. I was so scared for my life...so I shot him.")

Um, sort of like voters committing fraud...which almost never happens, but appears to be more "common" (or should I say slightly-less EXTREMELY RARE) than problems caused by people choosing to piss or shit in the bathroom that matches their sexual identity.

It's just the new frontier from state legislators who want to see trans women beaten by meat heads in the hope everyone gets scared straight, or gets some old fashioned 'justice'.

I don't believe the states should be vested with the power to discriminate (I've never heard an effective argument for that, especially on here). Time and again, certain states have proven themselves capable of real brutality.

As you pointed out, this wasn't an issue until it was made one by the state.

So men are entitled to use the girls shower, huh? Nothing else is equal.

You keep on saying trans=men=pedophiles.

What a load of complete and utter irresponsible nonsense. The kind of talk used to justify beatings.

I love the old days. You know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? They'd be carried out on a stretcher, folks. It's true. … I'd like to punch him in the face, I'll tell you.

– Donald Trump (February 22, 2016)

Impeachment would be a waste of time.

I don't recall the end-result ever factoring-in too much during the many attempted repeals of the Affordable Care Act.

Bullshit. I said nothing about pedophiles, nor implied it. You want to say that "equal protection " gives trans people the right to shower where they want, but not other boys and men. You can't have it both ways, and you are too stupid to realize the meaning of what you are saying.

Trans men are not "other boys and men." They are gender identified as female.

It's clear you either do not understand, or refuse to accept this, but why you think your failure to comprehend it should be a valid basis for legislation remains unclear.

I attended a school with co ed bathrooms. I already said this to you before in plain English.

Why you continue to repeat a boogeyman at me of "omg, men and women in the same restroom!" as if I'm going to suddenly recoil is beyond me. Are you having difficulty understanding English? I went to college at a school with coed bathrooms. Let me illustrate, since you're having trouble reading.

I have serious doubts whether incidence of rape and abuse is somehow higher in bathrooms than anywhere else.

I mean is it true that other men in a co ed bathroom will simply ignore the rape going on?

All I can say to Benvolio's concerns there is that maybe we degenerate liberals at left-wing universities in left-wing states have inherently more self-control because no such thing was a problem for us.

To my knowledge 100% of the rape-related incidents around campus were either date rapes or cases of people from totally off campus getting by the entrances into dorm buildings without being carded somehow. I guess according to Benvolio logic if the dorm entrances had a no men sign above them no rapes would have happened this way.

It's always offended me when the right wing implicit assertion is that men are predatory. Maybe that's a statement of themselves, but frankly my reality is that as a male I have no interest in rape, and if I ever came across it I would stop it in any way I could, and I find it offensive in the extreme that someone would assume that I would in any event do otherwise.

I know it's not really relevant but I shared a bathroom with my sisters all my life and my primary bitch was the amount of time they spent in there.

I agree. If men ARE predatory, it's a result of their culture and upbringing and the way in which they are taught to view and regard women, and it's that which needs fixing. Everyone else should not have to operate in segregated venues with armed security to work around the fact that the most regressive parts of the Bible belt or deep South are raising men to view the natural and exclusive result of putting men and women together is some kind of sex, with or without consent.

I can think of six, local to me, spread out over a number of years. Four of those were in school locker-rooms. All involved boys, both as victims and perpetrators. All involved were members of the same sports teams. None involved actual penetration but could probably be characterised as hazing run amok ... for example, an incoming underclassman new to the wrestling team having his face forced between the bare buttocks of an upperclassman.

Of the others, one occurred in or around a country-club locker room, and involved a local elected official in his early to mid 50s and a 15 year old boy. The elected official apparently liked what he saw, and offered the young man a fifty, and a short while later the young man's wang found itself in a warm moist oral cavity.

The last involved anal intercourse between a 42 year old man and a 21 year old man. The incident occurred in the older man's shower on the afternoon of Christmas day. The young man had some kind of mental disability; what, exactly, I don't know. I also don't know if he was actually non-consenting or if it was decided he hadn't the ability to give consent.

From what I've seen in the news, awakened by this idiocy, there have been a good number of women who are being challenged for their right to use a restroom. If the idiots have their way, I imagine in a short while we'll all be having to carry our papers with us at all times and have to submit to having our crotches grabbed or flashing our 'nads at the potty police.

That said, unless you've been in the situation, you have no idea the terror that can be struck into a man, out with a little girl of 3+ and a little boy of 2+ and hear one or the other of them say they have to pee.

Meanwhile, the demographs that the GOP say they're defending, the young and women, are substantially more likely to support trans people on this issue:

Americans aged 18 to 29 favor letting transgender people use the restroom of their identity by a 2-to-1 ratio.*

Forty-four percent of women favor letting a man who is in transition from male to female into their public toilets, compared to 39 percent who say they must use the facilities matching their gender assigned at birth.

But I guess old and middle aged men know what young women want more than they do.
Or they're using a bogus 'think of the women and children' argument to discriminate against minorities, again.
