Private Militia Takes Over Federal Wildlife Sanctuary in Oregon

ABC News being cute.

ABC killed journalism Saturday night using this one weird tweet

Turns out armed uprisings are peaceful.

You might try reading the article before jumping to bizarre conclusions.

I get why the second judge ruled the way they did, but I also see the Hammond's side. They served their time.

With that said the occupiers need to be removed.

Unless they're damaging things, breaking laws, and/or preventing others from using the facilities, it might be better to just ignore them.

To be fair, the Hammonds themselves are not part of the occupation of the wildlife refuge.

They plan to report to prison on Monday as ordered, and have called for a peaceful end to this incident.

As is not uncommon, they are more sensible than their supporters.

Theirs is actually a case where the BLM ought to set restrictions on the land's use into a title, and sell the land to the Hammonds.

Who are they inflicting terror on?

The people they oppose.

Again, you don't bring guns and take over a federal building as peaceful protest. They are a threat.

Edit: And their previous actions when it comes to arson makes them terrorists as well.

That's a nice reasoned reply.

Because what they are doing is reasonable in the first place.

Welcome to the alternate reality of the ultra conservative Republican Christian right. Get ready for more of these situations in the months and years to come, as it appears the crazy Republican base has escaped the asylum and the keepers don't know how to get the monster they created back in. Though I find it ironic that the Republican candidates for president would be the first to jump on a story about a liberal protest but are oddly silent about this little militia thing. Going to be an interesting year.

Hasn't this been happening with abortion clinics for a while, now?

I'm just suggesting that it probably is a win-win to give them what they want.

They want a gunfight, or they wouldn't be seizing federal land in an armed insurrection.

They are determined that the Guvamint is oppressing them by not letting them do whatever they want whenever they want and using the full force of the justice system to exact some kind of revenge.

They want to martyrs to their cause of hating the federal or likely any level of government that restricts what they think they ought to be able to do at any time and any place.

They want to be wild west heroes that will call up all their nut-case brothers in arms to rise up against those evil people in Washington that they spend hours and hours spinning paranoid fantasies about.

But in reality, we know now that the white extremist militias are winning. They are almost untouchable when they pull this kind of tantrum because of the fear of what it has triggered as far as domestic terrorism in the past.

Yeah, Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter struck a major nerve with Republicans. Fox News launched major campaigns to discredit both movements. I was surprised at how fearful the right seemed of these few people with so little power, protesting peacefully without weapons.

But, when Cliven Bundy forced the Bureau of Land Management down at gunpoint, Republicans cheered. At least until Bundy began spewing racist bigotry, which at that time was still unfashionable.

I think Republicans are afraid to back the Bundy militia because they are afraid it will turn into another Waco. And they have been burned by the Bundys once already.

They do seem to want a gunfight. They're vowing to "kill or be killed" but police aren't taking the bait.

Reporters have asked them repeatedly what concessions anyone might grant to encourage them to leave the wildlife refuge, but they won't answer that.

^ No. All they are looking for is an event that will trigger an all out war between the Militias and the feds.

They are also looking to make political hay out of this as well.....although I'm sure that most of them don't believe in electing any federal president or legislator....the savvy ones know that a misstep by the DoJ and FBI on this could create havoc during an election season....they are counting on squeezing out some hard line libertarian/conservative sound bites like they did before....except that this time....everyone knows that they are just a bunch of white trash, redneck crooks and thieves trying to make themselves look like noble defenders of 'freedom' from tyranny.

I suspect that most of them still think that Jade Helm was a muslim plan enacted by a black Kenyan designed to invade Texas.

There isn't going to be a confrontation. The police learned a lot from Waco and other such failed situations and they know how to de-escalate these kinds of things better now.

The government has no need to get into a gun fight here. All they have to do is block any further entry into the building(as I'm sure they have) and wait for them to run out of food. Seriously, what did they really think was going to be the end game here?

The people they oppose.

Anyone in terror over people sitting in the middle of nowhere having bonfires needs serious help.

Again, you don't bring guns and take over a federal building as peaceful protest. They are a threat.

They're in the middle of a wildlife refuge -- being armed in sensible.

Edit: And their previous actions when it comes to arson makes them terrorists as well.

You don't even have your facts straight -- these people haven't committed any arson.

Because what they are doing is reasonable in the first place.

They learned it from the political Left.

Has anyone involved invoked Christianity at all?

Try reading the articles before spinning scenarios. It's been reported that only some of them are even armed.

The Right knows they don't support the people, and they're terrified of anything that shows it.

Not that the establishment Left cares about the people; if they did, they'd throw Hillary out and back Bernie to the hilt.
