Private Militia Takes Over Federal Wildlife Sanctuary in Oregon

It is a shame that once again, the FBI hands the militia movement another martyr.

As we sit here, this killing will go on to inspire dozens of misguided right wing radicals to join militias and to plot further gun saturated interactions with federal authorities.....perpetuating a cycle of violence for decades to come.

And people have trouble understanding the Middle East?

I've read about five hundred pages of analysis on this one incident so far (mostly trying to find out exactly what went down), and after that I don't think this is going to inspire anyone but those already in "the Movement".

It also makes me think that the reason he got shot is that he publicly and loudly said he wouldn't be taken alive, including that he would go down shooting -- so agents on the scene were ready to shoot at his slightest move. They might have been wise to have been ready with a couple of net guns, though unless a target is running the nets aren't sufficiently entangling to prevent drawing a sidearm -- yet it would have played well even if they'd had to shoot him in the end anyway, leaving little to no room for the accusation of murder by law enforcement.

BTW, in those analyses an explanation emerges of why some thought he was shot while on his knees: standing in that deep snow, a still frame would certainly look like he was on his knees while the agent from the woods side was standing in already-packed snow (note the shallow tire tracks) was clearly on his feet.

One other item emerged: the hypothesis that the FBI and OSP deliberately waited until there was a heavy snowfall precisely so that they could choose spots on the highway where drivers would be tempted to leave the pavement but would end up stuck in the snow. If that's true, my hat's off to the guy with such imagination.

A thought to ponder: In my reading lately from the time of the revolution (biographies of Alexander Hamilton and Benedict Arnold; partial biographies of Washington and Jefferson), there emerged an interesting take on this sort of thing -- that the liberty to take a violent stand against the government can be regarded as essential for a free state, in that it reminds the people in general that there is a right to insurrection against tyranny (however idiotic some such attempts may be) and that government, when you boil it down, is (in Washington's words) raw force (however well hidden that force may often be).

As martyrs go, this guy is a pretty neutered one. The revolution has failed to materialize. I wonder if they get to take their dildos with them to prison?

Ammon Bundy has called for the remaining militiamen (there are currently only four people left at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge) to leave the refuge.

I personally think this is arrogance on his part. Since he will no longer be available to lead the "revolution," Jesus thinks it is time for the revolution to stand down. No way God wants someone else to get credit for Bundy's terrorism.

The sticking point is that the four remaining militiamen want to be able to leave the refuge free and clear. One of them has outstanding warrants, so it is unlikely that authorities can acquiesce to their demands.

Radio this morning said the FBI are going to supply a video of Bundy making that request, since at least one of the remaining occupiers doesn't believe it. Word was they'll send it by OSP, to keep things at a lower level.

No word at all on the issue of warrants. But from the tone of callers, the community here on the coast is as tired of this as those in Harney County.

Oh -- and someone wants to buy the piece of property where "patriot blood was shed" and put up a memorial. One (large, loud) angry lady in Burns said they don't want that reminder and it might just get reduced to roadside gravel....

The remaining occupiers are:

Sandy Anderson of Riggins, Idaho
Sean Anderson, 47, of Riggins, Idaho
Jeff Banta, 46, of Elko, Nevada
David Fry, 27, of Blanchester, Ohio

The warrant is for Sean Anderson. It is outstanding from 2014, when he was arrested for marijuana.

He has an outstanding bench warrant related to an August 2014 arrest. Anderson was charged with resisting an officer, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.

Sean and Sandy Anderson are husband and wife. The four remaining occupiers are refusing to leave unless all of them (including Sean) are allowed to leave without being arrested. Police say they cannot ignore an outstanding warrant on a person and that the request to do so is not reasonable (although the charge is a misdemeanor).

That's ridiculous. Police ignore misdemeanor warrants from other states all the time.

Papa Cliven Bundy was arrested when he came to PDX. Maybe now would be a good time to take his cattle to pay his fines.

Make sure you read Connie's comments. 'Prod cast':rotflmao:

She has the IQ of a piece of wood.

But I did see where Lavoy was shot by the local police and not by the FBI.
Poor Connie. Her parents must've dropped her (on her head) to many times when she was a baby.

Sounds like continued standoff.

I wish it would come to an end. People here are getting tired of these jerks getting dignified with the term "militia" when they're just an ad hoc group of activists.

A judge should give them a deal that they all get a free pass if they'll go through military basic training and complete it successfully so they'll have a clue what being a militia is about.

Only the utterly irrational would call them terrorists. They fail that status by the definition given here by someone who called them terrorists -- which demonstrates the irrationality of calling them that.

I'm wondering how Billy Graham's son got involved -- that's just... weird.
