  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Problems like racism, homophobia and etc will not stop until enough people let go of that way of thinking.

I see nothing wrong with it, bit of local colour.

Being of First Nations descent, I feel I may speak for all of them when I say, "get the fuck off my land!"

The only problem I see with that Seal is that is a crime against Arts.
Let's face it, it looks shite.

Case in point.

http://gawker.com/whitesboro-residents-vote-to-keep-seal-that-sure-looks-1752400558

Can't expect change when certain amount of people want to hold on to negative thinking and actions.

I think the people who voted to keep it because they have convinced themselves that it was a "friendly wrestling match" are mentally ill....

...and there is no cure for it.

Maybe stick them in a supervised home with an American Flag in one hand..some Apple Pie in another..and let them watch Faux News 24/7. At least it will keep them off the streets so they don't do too much damage....

Indeed. All this classification of people is old and stupid as we are all the same and aim for similar goals. The humanity has to stop playing games and unite for coping with some serious global problems that already affect our lives on a daily basis.

Racism will continue to run rampant until people stop searching for every opportunity to cry racism at everything to get their own way and for their 15 minutes of fame on social media.

I was willing to support the Washington Redskins keeping their name, but killing Indians on a city seal? No way.

I liked this comparison with Pawnee.

I wonder if you had a picture of a Native scalping a White guy, could you excuse it away by claiming it was just a hair cut?

^if you want to call retribution a hair cut, sure.

on a more serious note however....

the title of this thread has a flaw in the logic:

Problems like racism, homophobia and etc will not stop until enough people let go of that way of thinking.

people's "ways of thinking" is only a small symptom of a much larger problem.

Societal norms, stereotypes, cultural conditioning, parental guidance (or lack there of), subliminal marketing *coughs* disney *coughs*, learning through our education system, parents teaching their children to hate through fear, intimidation and ignorance and having that same tripe reinforced by the spheres of influence like msm, religion, government, corporations are just some of the major factors that contribute to this line of thinking.

People, children especially, are naturally curious and while fear of the unknown may be a reflex, hatred itself is not an inborn trait, it is a learned behavior reinforced through familial and cultural indoctrination and conditioning.

Perhaps if this way of thinking is to change, the institutions of influence that govern our daily lives either blatant or subliminal, need to change or be done away with in the current context that they exist today.

Just a thought.

They won't and it's ok. People are allowed to have their beliefs, stances and vices.

Granted they aren't hurting anyone, and at the end of the day help those in need and be a respectable citizen.

People are allowed to have their opinions, and understand we can still be divided, yet united.

What the thread title is saying to me is that racism, homophobia etc will not stop until people stop being racist, homophobic etc. Surely that's blindingly obvious.

How does one just stop being a racist, homophobe, bigot etc.?

Or are we saying the all white Oscar nominations are just a random fluke?

They don't. People are gonna have their opinions and their virtues.

I would love for people to stop being homophobic and racist, but I just accepted the fact that it's never going to happen, at least not in this atmosphere, and it's best to just move on and go on with life and treat others with respect and have our houses in order, as I know for a fact everyone in the world has pre conceptions of everything and everyone.

For example a white person might see a black man wearing urban attire in a parking lot and if their doors are unlocked they will lock them.

In the same sense, there could be a white guy walking in a ghetto area and people assume he's undercover police.

Also people will try to talk dumb to foreigners or people who they assume don't speak english. They don't realize how rude that is.

Whether you want to admit it or not as long as they respect me and don't think I'm a deviant, it's ok. They can have all the sterotypes and prejudices they want. Just as long as I'm treated with respect and as a human being, it's fine keep those thoughts inside your head and inside your own house.

^^^^

I get what you are saying.....

What I do is try to be the solution I wish other people would adopt.

I have no power to change anyone else except for myself...so a good example is the best I can do in the end.

You should see the guys I hang around now. Let's just say no one would expect any of them to be gay friendly...they look "scary" ...but they ARE NOT SCARY! That is just as much of a cop out as being racist or homophobic..judging someone by the way they look..and yeah..they are all different races....

Thing is...I don't give a fuck if you approve of or accept my sexuality..that is your business. I don't do the hand wringing thing either...I am proud of who and what I am and very happy about it so I never announce I am gay...I instead introduce them to my boyfriend because it is natural and normal...and every single of them appreciate the opportunity to know a gay person...and they relax fast and also include me in the group fast.....an "if" they ever had a problem with it...they sure get over it fast. They actually get very comfortable....more than one would expect if one were to believe the stereotypes...

...and I know I made it a lot easier for other gay people...by being who I am and NOT caring who they are....they are entitled to their thoughts BUT you really can make a difference when you conduct yourself in a way that shows you are comfortable with yourself and don't need to have approval and acceptance...that is how you get it actually....NOT by whining about it. ...or shaking your finger at them.
