  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Quite frankly, the world sucks.

I've been very poor.

And now I'm not.

And getting here was all the fun as well as hard work.

Many days I am wistful for the days I was so poor, I could enjoy life and people without a dollar.

So chin up.

Life doesn't suck. Some days suck, but it really is all up to you to make it what you want.

I doubt you are still a normal employee. Or are you?

And the other half of the time?

My understanding of religion is that it works well as a means of controlling a population.

Its a wolf in sheeps clothing basically.

I suppose the whole concept of the Reformation passed you by in highschool?

Oh God no.

I own my own firm.

I have employees.

I also think globally and instead of whining about the world's ills, I volunteer time and of course, money to help to solve the problems as best I can.

Recognizing that the poor are with us always.

That life isn't fair.

That justice is sporadic.

That many never get justice.

That hate abounds.

But that so does love.

And to be blunt, a lot of what I was reading in the OP was the type of 'poor me' selfish whiny rant that only those in the first world could afford to even complain about.

Most of what you say is partly true but at the same time I have lived a very happy and enjoyable life on a very small salary, as have my parents and their parents. I have been lucky enough to travel some and even luckier to live in a part of the world that all I have to do is drive 15-20mins to escape into the wilderness. Hard not to be content where I am!

I thought I caught you mentioning something like that before.
It's likely that you have responsibilities and obligations that far outweigh those of your employees.
If your firm goes bankrupt you will lose a whole lot more than your job.

And yet... being an employee might be worse, because it often comes down to not only doing things that the underlings of your bosses want, but also to doing it exactly the way they want it, whether it's inane or not.
In that case the helplessness of the OP is understandable.

I also think globally and instead of whining about the world's ills, I volunteer time and of course, money to help to solve the problems as best I can.

The problem is the globe is only for companies; the companies move to favorable places and most of the employees stay behind, often without a job.
Most places are thrilled with the prospect of new companies to provide their many unemployed and will roll out the red carpet.

Normal foreign employees should be happy to get a job abroad at all, and this only if the foreign government graciously allows them both a residence permit and a work permit.

This is even the case if you move between EU countries.

And to be blunt, a lot of what I was reading in the OP was the type of 'poor me' selfish whiny rant that only those in the first world could afford to even complain about.

People have jobs and internet and television and internet and even religious books in other places too.

Hey, at least you're in the UK. Can't you just give up and go on the dole, and still live pretty well?

I certainly don't recall learning of it, but then, religious education was not a topic which interested me.

I trust you did not grow up in the UK then?

I think he's arguing that the Protestant Reformation, which was a revolution of sorts, is proof that religion isn't a means of controlling people.

But that's absolutely laughable. It's not even remotely logical.

Except that's not what I said; I said that not all religion serves to lull people into complacency and senseless obedience. The 17th century Europe was anything but complacent.

Being able to live on a small salary depends on external circumstances that have declined for normal employees of late.

It's fine to rant and rave about how the world sucks, but what are you doing to make it suck less? We may not be able to change the lives of every human, but maybe we should start by changing the life of just one?

Whoo-wee, it's getting serious in here...please allow me this brief interjection:

Gotta finish up my evening exercises...

OFFICIAL SCORECARD:

Mitchymo is in the lead with 50 points for being the OP.

Mikami is in a close second with 45 points, just because he's a Samurai.
And he's awesome.
And I think I kinda wanna...have sex with him.

RazorEdge's coming up from the rear with a respectable 20pts. for working the phrase feckless codswallop into the conversation.

Alrighty, boys, it's still anybody's game. The floor is WIIIIDE open...now, GO:

The only thing equal to the shitty-ness of the world is its wonder.

Sadly, wonder is an elusive remedy.

Some of you act like there was EVER a time in human history where everybody had it good or great.

Be thankful you aren't a conjoined twin connected at the skull. Be glad you don't have a disease named after you.

Lend a hand to someone in need or wallow in self-pity. Be part of the solution or part of the problem.

British keyboard is slightly different. ! " £ $ % ^ & * ( )

The @ is two keys along from L and the # is the other side of that (no shift needed)

(unrelated side digression: how do make the symbol for "pound" on your keyboard? Is that what happens when you press SHIFT + 4? That's "$" on my keyboard. If I press SHIFT 1-9,0 this is what I get: !@#$%^&*(). Is it same on British (Canadian, Aussie, etc...) keyboard? Just curious.)

Canadian Multilingual Standard:

!@#$%?&*()
shift 1 through 0

¡@£€∞ {}[]
option 1 through 0

≈ıˆ˜†‡•±—
shift-option 1 through 0

I'm just bumping this thread cuz most of my favorite people are in it and I'm enjoying the discussion...although I don't have much to add...

So there.

I wish the world sucks me instead.

I think the world is wonderful. I'm not rich, the boyfriend and I are having problems, I hate my job and I gained 10 fucking kilograms. Compared to two years ago when I was unemployed, single and still a virgin, barely have any cash and close to being anorexic and going through a cancer scare. The world may suck but I have the sucking power to change the things that suck to something less sucky and accept that some sucky things are beyond unsuckable and accept their sucky status. With that OP, I wish to suck you.

Maybe i shall be less sarcastic and be blunt as heck when i next want to get across what i mean. Or maybe some wise and wealthy, disgustingly happy go lucky soul will post the exact same thing and you won't be able to use that impression, because i'm poor i must be whining about my personal circumstances because poor people in the UK are as poor as you can get??? No, i'm trying to inspire a change of thinking is what i'm doing. A recognition that life may suck, but it doesn't have to to the level which it does for many around the world, and its not simply the case that their governments are just not doing the right thing. How hard is it really to offer help?

Edit:- miscontrued post, apologies.

Hey. Listen Up.

I didn't say that you were necessarily saying those things did I??

Well. Did I???

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were reflecting others' attitudes and not just your own.

I said that what I read in the OP was the kind of whiny and self-absorbed crap that only spoiled brats in the western countries carry on about.
