Racism in the Gay Commuinty

Sure there is, we're human after all. I would like to think that racism, and heck, stereotyping is less prevalent in our community... but I don't know the statistics. I often compare racism to homophobia, they're both the same in my opinion except that they're dealing with different factors. Now, I'm not racist but I've had to deal with racist people before and they annoy the mother f out of me. My grandma is racist, and I love her to death but it annoys me to no end that she won't allow my boyfriend (who is black and gay) into her home, yet she doesn't treat me any different. Also, in my whole life I've NEVER been a passenger in a car and gotten pulled over by the cops, never, never, never. I meet my boyfriend, and in the two years I've known him we've been pulled over at least 4 or 5 times!! It's true what I learned in my Majority/Minority relations course, the racial majority doesn't experience what the minority experiences discrimination-wise, and therefore they don't understand it most of the time.

ok snuggie time!

come on, we should be like these guys!!

 I am so over these threads. They're so TIRED. Can we at least get a couple months break before another one pops up??

When it comes to racism in the gay community, I prefer to focus on specific situations and individuals as targeted case studies. "Maintaining My Friendhip with a Snow Queen" was a showstopper because that man is real, and he's still at it (I keep tabs). That's always more interesting than vague generalities.

I would never take advantage of anyone MoPho ;)

Now, I make my Bailey's Cocoa 2 parts Bailey's, 1 part cocoa. solid?

Not even me. Damn. :(

Here I was having my hopes all up that you would. ](*,)

I love playing the role of the straight unsuspecting drunk guy that gets molested in his sleep by his horny best friend.

Lol did you read the second part of my post? I was clearly trying to booze you up  Now get drunk and cuddle me bitch

I'm going to skip on the major points of this post... but I would like some Bailey's... put me down for it.

The page is all lopsided. I'm feeling woozy. You must have slipped a mickey in my cocoa along with the Baileys.....

Haha I think you spiked yourself ;)

Awww, I love it when you talk to me all forceful. It's so thoughtful and romantic. :D (*8*)

*blacks out*

Black out after one drink of Bailey's? You lightweight :p

I agree wholeheartedly----the reason why it still exists is because people poke fun at it (as some of these posts have). For some reason, gays seem to think tackling the problem of homophobia is more important than tackling the problem of racism. That's how selfish we are! As long as guys keep taking the sarcastic/nonchalant "oh boy, here we go again" attitude, it will never be addressed head-on because, honestly, some people run away from the problem & dissociate themselves away because of guilt.

Once the problem goes away, then sure.

I'm going to assume that this statement refers to white gays, seeing as racism is probably a bit more significant to gays of other ethnicities.

Running with that assumption, what's wrong with caring more about an issue that affects you directly? I believe it's perfectly reasonable for someone to acknowledge that there are other problems, but to focus on the ones that affect them personally.
