Again with the weak parallels and the overt platitudes for what is textbook racial prejudice. You can't be sexually attracted to your sister because #1 she's your sister and #2 you're gay.

With this thread it seems like I'm talking to a wall... hate is hate plain and simple... call it "preference", "choice", type what ever the Goddamn you please. And don't think that those of the same race who spit on their own are immune to my scorn. Nothing is more shameful than self-hate. Yes, it's hard to be a minority in a white world, but you just have to pick up your cross and move on. I've seen Asians in particular with severe forms of it... to the point where they alienate themselves from their own kind for the love of a white man. I now see this happening more and more among blacks in the gay community as well... and it is simply humiliating. The fact that a person can hate themselves so much that they hate their own kind... and what's worse, hating the best of their own kind.

Now before you people and your "preferences" decide to label me a bigot... I think to my defense I've been a staunch supporter of togetherness and mutual love and respect. I endorse dating between the races because these relationships can be just as rich as same-race relationships. However, when this sort of thing is taken to an extreme by causing people to hate their own race in favour of another race or even hate particular races and not others... my stomach just turns in disgust. It's so much easier to be selfish and hateful... because it's all ingrained in our instincts for survival... but we are human beings... the highest life forms on earth... just once I would like to see us act in a manner worthy of our position.

When you say you are not attracted to black men, that means you are not attracted to that race. Every one has preferences, certain features that they are attracted too. You should have said I prefer lighter skinned guys etc., when you say you are not attracted to black guys that means subconsciously you are not willing to give them a chance no matter what because they are black. I have a friend who say's he does not find black woman attractive, but he thinks Beyonce and Nicole Ritchie are gorgeous, he does not realize that black people come in various shades. Some of you guys say you are only attracted to whites and latinos, so are you attracted to Dominicans as well? because a large majority of Dominicans appear to be black, but they are latino.

It's funny you would ask this question now. I just finished watching a movie called Something New. In it, Brian (played by Simon Baker) wants to date Kenya (played by Sanaa Lathan). Kenya, who is black, tells Brian, who is white, that it's her preference to date only black men. Simon said, ok, well, it's your preference to be racist. That comment made her shut up and think. Good movie.

Many people have different opinions on the subject. I personally think that not dating someone because of their race is a mild form of racism. No, I wouldn't say it would be on the same level as the KKK, but still. I think you have to take a really good look within yourself and ask why you don't feel other races are worthy of your attention. You may surprise yourself with what you come up with.

Couldn't agree more. Talking about excluding an entire race from potential dating is a mild form of racism because guess what, you're discrimminating on race.

I have preferences but I will never say I won't date one race. That's bigotry.

I'm black and I dont find many black women or men attractive. If anything I go for every other race intentionally. That doesnt make me a racist right? I dont hate my own race. They just arent what I'm looking for. You're own personal preference doesnt make you a racist unless you avoid these people because of their race. I could see if you were like "damn, I hate the way black people look, etc" but its just something thats not your style. I dont think its that big of a deal.

there's some sort of self loathing going on with you tho...you'll never admit it but there is...i'm biracial and am attaracted to the person...hot is hot and i've found hot in every color...black, latino, white...i'm not saying i get a pass cause i'm irish and black and you aren't but sumtin is wrong here....

wow...interesting thread. brandon's situation is real sad...you can justify it any way you want but honestly if your'e black and you don't like your own, you've absorbed some very negative attitudes about your own race...u can do what u like but there is major self-loathing going on with you. i embrace both sides of my person, both the black and irish and dont' look down on my black side as being inferior to the irish...you are i assume fully black and you must be in a lot of pain as a result...it's sad...i just don't get what happened to you....

my friend lostlover, above, reminded me that he used to date a black guy who pulled the old standard "i'm not really black...i'm also cherokee indian, LOL." the standard response to self hating black people. i'm beginning to understand why certain black people dislike me on sight...they must desperately wish they were part white, light skinned with "good" hair. pathetic. i thought blacks overcame this shit back in the day.
