Just so. Here's where that kind of rhetoric leads. That Angle bitch is partly responsible for the death of the 9-year-old kid who got shot too.
 
There's still no proof he listened to palin beck angle etc. Stop thinking on emotion and listen to the facts. He was a nutcase, yes, but we have no evidence he was a tea party one.

not true.. He was hung up on Beck's gold standard issues and it shows in his manifestos... does it feel good that palin, angle and beck are part of the garbage in his head along with marx and hitler?

The house has stopped the repeal of healthcare until further notice. it would seem she was one of the instrumental votes in its passage, she recieved many deatht htreats over it, and they cant appear to be gaining from the attempted assasination of one of their own.

This guy has already changed the course of the american govt and there will be more
 
I pause to note that at the news conference, the Pima County Sheriff (yes, the same one who lashed out at the media hate-mongers) was asked if he knew of any direct link between media figures' rhetoric and the suspect. He simply answered, "No."

That's not to say he was wrong in condemning the incendiary rhetoric of the media hate-mongers.
 
It's pretty sick that people are already trying to exploit this tragedy for political ends. We don't know who this guy is or what his motivations are besides being a fucking psycho.

I remember a saying and I cant remember which republican said it... it was about porn and the legal dificulty in defining it... " I may not be able to say what it is but I know it when I see it."

well anyway... there was a political assasination today. it almost took the life of a congresswoman and she still may not live. A federal judge also died.

This WAS political. He wasn't just cleaning his gun next to two politicians when it happened to go off.

It is also no accident that Ms Giffords received death threats for her vote in favor of healthcare, that she fought a contested race against a tea bagger candidate, and that she was in the cross hairs of Sarah Palin.

That is what we know about her. Some of what we can learn about the perpetrator of a crime can be gleaned by thevictims they choose, I believe, and it would seem clear to any reasonable person where this is going to go and what it is going to do to the nation.

Construct you are ever the gentlemen, but honestly? there are people, not you, that are trying to dismiss their part in this insanity and it cannot happen. We all know where the radical anger is coming from in america.

we as a nation have to get hold of the rhetoric and the insanity and the rage and we HAVE to tell the hatemongers and the media that carry their messages that this just wont work anymore.

Unless a link can be shown between the media figures' rhetoric and the shooter, there isn't a link. It really is as simple as that.

This appears to be a little different from the threats we saw during the campaign. Is he more like John Hinkley, or is he more like Lee Harvey Oswald? In my opinion, he's somewhere in between. His anti-government videos make me believe that Rep. Gifferts may well have been merely a target of convenience even though his obsessions show more congruence with the right-wing fringe. How many serious politicians do you know that want to go back to backed money, for example? Any of them except for the Pauls Ron and Rand would fill the bill if he's after politicians that oppose backed money.

Now the fact that every politician receives lots of death threats from other people has nothing to do with this incident. We aren't concerned about other people's threats. We're concerned with this particular man's actions and their motivations.

I believe there is. I believe it is evident, and I believe it will be exposed in hard facts as time wears on. In the meantime we are going to HAVE to demand civility from these people in washington and on the yap box called TV.

Well, how about we do the media equivalent of shaming and shunning--letter writing and boycotting. You have to let the media know what you're planning. Then if they don't come around you follow through with letting the sponsors know what you're doing and why.

It's either that or an FCC regulation for media officials and FEC fines for political candidates and those who make independent expenditures. FEC investigations sometimes take a long, long time and can be pretty expensive even if the charge is dropped. Think about it.

I know the dificulties we are facing, but that can't let us off the hook. we can't just say.. this is hard to do so lets just pretend the problem isn't there.

it is there.

If I knew of a simple sollution then I would have suggested it.

I DO know that the first step to finding the sollution is defining the problem and then getting the best of americas best to focus on the solution.

remember solutions?? before this era of politics there used to be facts and there used to be solutions.

Now its all just spin and PR... Rhetoric MAY have killed people today.

I know the truth of this situation will be a mix of everything we have discussed here today. we live in a grey world.

People always say that. It never, ever happens in real life. It's strictly a Hollywood fantasy. Especially if a lot of people are armed, you just end up with a lot of idiots who don't know shit about physics shooting each other, and more innocent bystanders getting killed.

Think about it. You hear a shot. You look around and you see someone with a gun out. You shoot him. Oops, he was someone like you trying to take down the shooter. Or you hesitate and if he IS the shooter he puts two in your head before you change your mind.

These situations are CONFUSING. You can't rely on the camera being on the real shooter, or him looking like a nutbag, or anything. They look just like anyone. Most especially they look just like the kind of person that would try to be a hero in a situation like this.

Hey, if you kill the shooter, and maybe 6 other people who had their guns drawn because they had the same idea, then at least you got the shooter! And the rest is just the "fog of war." Can't be helped. QED.
