Rihanna's Record Breaking Umbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh #1 Worldwide

I have to agree that there's just something about Rihanna's voice that just irks me a bit... but I can't deny that I have found her songs very catchy- Her song Umbrella grew on me big time... and don't get me started on "S.O.S" that was (and remains) one of my faves.

I fucking love Shut Up and Drive....

I think I've listened to it 1,343 times on my iPod.

Rihanna should really win some awards for UMBRELLA, its so awesome. The song deserves it.

that song is hot!!

at first i didn't like, i think cuz jay-z, his rapping part wasn't neccesary (yeah, it helps for radio), now is like wow, great song and lyrics.

her album is very catchy...i love catchy songs!

Does anyone know if Umbrella samples another song? I can't put my finger on it, but that melody is reminiscent of something i've heard before...
Can anyone help?

I'm not very fond of Rhianna, she has a very harsh voice to listen to and I don't think she has much staying power. There should be no comparison to her and Britney, it's true Britney realeased her albums in a simialr manner but she would release four or five singles from them not just a couple and then a new album. Britney's albums also went 10-12x platinum and that's when illeagal downloads were more rampant.

Who is comparing the two? Brit and Ri Ri are both my girls. What does your post have to do with the thread topic? I just mentioned the album a year for 3 years thing upthread to counter the previous post. While Britney has been away starting a family and getting her life back on track Rihanna has been keeping pop alive. LOL speaking of Britney i was out last night and a man was in traffic bumping "Oops! I did it again" i loved it and gave him a thumbs up, needless to say we ended up at his place but thats for another thread.

Whether you like Rihanna's voice or not is not important because you don't matter. What is important is that the world loves her and shows love buy buying and requesting her music resulting in Rihanna having the biggest single of 2007, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh.

Thats not true. And none of Britneys albums leaked 2 or 3 weeks before its release date. Illegal downloading is far worse now than ever. GOOD GIRL GONE BAD was leaked 3 weeks before June 5th.

I don't think she has much staying power.

You don't think? who are you? LOL , when is your album coming out? And if it ever does you wont have to worry about ANYBODY illegally downloading it LOL. You and Rihanna are the same age and Rihanna is on her 3rd album, endorsements galore and you are what here on JUB trashing a talented rising star. While growing up in Barbados, all Rihanna ever wanted to do is sing and perform the world over and she is living her dream, but haters always gonna hate.

I'm not very fond of Rhianna.

Oh and it is RIHANNA not what you said lol come to thi of it i should never even have taken issue with anything you said because i don't know who you are talking about. There is another singer called RHianna but i am not familiar with her. Who i am familiar with and who the world all over is familiar with is the multi award winning, platinum selling, teen pop/r&b sensation RIHANNA.

Some people are just bitter because they have noone to stand under their umbrella, when its raining, raining, LOL.

I didn't read through what anyone wrote so ignore this if this topic was already addressed....what is with her "live" performances? Her back round singers are very loud with turned up mics while her mic is very low. She barely sings and is very quiet. I though it was only one performance till I saw 3 more. She is awful live. I do like her though, just not her live performances.

Well if you saw and heard her at Live Earth, you would be singing a different tune LOL.

Not Live Earth, but Rihanna singing UMBRELLA live in concert,

She is so sweet, an Australian interview,

Rihanna is still number 1 in Australia, Germany, the US, the UK, ella, ella, mania LOL

At first i was like what the hell, but i ended up really liking it so i said id share it,

Wow UMBRELLA is so huge, Another interpration,

Chimpmunk version of UMBRELLA,

I actually didnt and still dont like this song much

That "still and didnt" stop it from being the number 1 song in the world for 9 weeks straight and counting, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh.

Do you know that the track "Good Girl Gone Bad" was written by the Norwegian singer/songwriter Lene Marlin, one of my favourite singers. She's awesome.

What the hell is this **bleep** ish? Although GGGB is also a good song, This thread is about how massive a hit UMBRELLA is and how it is still dominating the charts all over the world. Your post is a micro hijack. And you didn't even make a comment about UMBRELLA before you attempting to change the direction of the thread[-X

And FYI your precious L Marlin is billed as the 4th songwriter for the song Good Gril Gone Bad, which means she practically contributed nothing, just like Beyonce with the song Listen where she was billed as the 4th song writer.

If Good Girl Gone Bad was nominated for an oscar in the best song category, L Marlin would be left off the nomination because only 3 writers are allowed to be listed for eligibility.

"Umbrella" has also been number one on the UK Singles Chart, for an incredible nine weeks making it the longest running number one of the 2000's alongside "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.

According to Radio and Records it is currently the most listened to Urban song.

In Australia, the single entered the ARIA Singles Chart at number one and remained there for six weeks, becoming Rihanna's second number-one single (after "SOS"). It debuted at number one on the ARIA Urban Chart and has remained there for four weeks. While the song was at the top of the Urban Charts, two other songs (SOS and Unfaithful), from her previous album, were also on the chart.

I bought Rihanna's quickly-tanking album about a month ago and have only played it once or twice. Nothing special. She seems to pull a couple of big hits from each album and then fades away (although not long enough). There's no longevity nor serious committment to any of these endeavors.

Hopefully Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" will end the 7-week reign of "Umbrella" at No. 1 this week. The song has no where else to go. Each week, "Delilah" has crept one spot closer: 6-5-4-3-2 ...

Even Fergie's so-far-peaking-at-No. 3 for 3 weeks, "Big Girls Don't Cry" would be an improvement at the top.

And side note: If Rihanna does magically get a Grammy nod in 2008, it won't be for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. "Umbrella" is technically a pop vocal collaboration (with Jay-Z). And if neither Shakira Featuring Wyclef Jean (for "Hips Don't Lie") nor Nelly Furtado Featuring Timbaland (on "Promiscuous") could snag that award in '07, I doubt the vocally challenged Rihanna/Jay-Z combo can in '08.
